I have no questions about him being a franchise QB from above the neck, but that arm struggles to hit the side of a barn from beyond 10 yards. Sometimes within 10 yards.

Wonder what a QB with a decent arm could do with all that talent around him.

I still believe we should have drafted him.

Given the discrepancy of offense talent between Atlanta and Miami on the offensive side of the ball do you actually think Ryan could have carried the Dolphins offense with that arm?

Seems to me Ryan plus Marshall and Bush would be a pretty good combo. In the right offense those two could seriously mitigate arm strength issues. I think Miami fans have overreacted to arm strength issues since Marino retired, though. See also: Jay Fiedler. Last time I checked Jay is still the best post Marino QB by the numbers for the Dolphins, noodle arm and all.

Given Marshall's hands and Ryan's accuracy I wonder how many drops a year BM would have...25-30 maybe?

White, Gonzales, Jones & Turner aren't exactly chopped liver. Ryan isn't living up to his billing and isn't as good as Flaco.

Ryan and Sanchez are a lot alike, both have offenses designed to cater to exactly what they can do well and no more, when they are asked to do more, they fall down.

White Turner Jones Gonzalez and Douglas > Marshall and Bush (Throw in Hartline and Bess and they still win)

We also need to see Bush do it again.

How do you think Ryan would have done in a Dolphin uniform and other players remain the same...minus Long of course?

I think Bess may have benefited, can't really see that anyone else would have.

    Winning record?

Are we really doing this again? Okay, anyone still think Tim Tebow is a bum?

Seriously, we'll find out what the Falcons think of Ryan when they enter into contract negotiations. Ryan's approaching the last year of his rookie deal.

I like ryan and would have drafted him but he sure seems to choking in the playoffs so far. Both mannings lost thier first two playoff games ryan has now lost his first 3.I wouldn't right him off yet but he better not lose in the first round next year or he will find his way out of atlanta.

He would have wilted in the sun after reading this board and the press tearing him apart for not being Marino. People would say we suck at picking a QB/talent and the franchise is set back for another 4 years. In other words the same thing everyone says now.

I don't take issue with this, but I think they'd be good enough to have a respectable offense.

Of course. I'm just suggesting his skill set would be a good one to mate up with Ryan's.

I didn't think we should have taken Ryan at the draft and still have no reason to think we should have. He was the best QB option at the time, but still not worth the #1 overall. Long has far and away out-performed at his position of LT than Ryan has as a QB....

Now, if we only had that #1 overall this year, I'd have a completely different opinion, even if we didn't have Long as LT....

Of course, it just might have been enough (if we had Ryan vs. Moore) to draw Fisher here...

The Falcons kind of suck at playoff time and have pretty much always except for that one Super Bowl year. I don't think you can hang all of those three playoff losses on Ryan.

I think it is fair to say his "inaccuracy" and inability to throw deep has been exposed in the playoffs.

Even though he missed the entire preseason Jake obviously came back before he completely healed this year. Hopefully it is just a matter of giving him enough time to fully recover.

QBs with more Superbowl wins than Dan marino

Every QB to ever win a SB.

    That's not a good measurement.

that said, Ryan is looking real weak in the playoffs. He was prolific in the regular season but that offense isn't cutting it in the playoffs.

Prolific? He was the worst deep passer (over 20 yards) for starters in the NFL and just about the most inaccurate.

Well, we saw what Henne did in that situation, but Ryan is a bit better then Henne as a passer, but Ryan also had Turner, and Sanchez had ground and pound, Henne had the WC/RW/RB, so I suspect he would have done better then Henne, but not by a whole lot imo.

This is a bit of an understatement. Brees suffered a 360 degree rotator cuff tear. Meaning, he tore the entire thing. He had something like 12 pins surgically inserted in his throwing shoulder to bolt his rotator cuff back on.

The fact that Brees not only came back immediately from that sort of injury, but came back better, is the supreme freak occurrence of freak occurrences.

    This.

It's not like we passed on a nearly unanimous #1 pick franchise QB like Stafford, which makes this "debate" silly.
It wasn't even certain that Ryan would be drafted by the #3 pick.

Culpepper even if he came back the same would have still been Culpepper, the worst fumbling QB in the league since Tony Banks. I always wanted to roll the dice with Brees in that situation because he was the only decent NFL QB of the two (Culpepper was great for fantasy football stats but not as a real NFL QB even in Minnesota).
