    RIP.....tough/sad news!

I would think perhaps in some small way Coach Dungy can provide some words and comfort to one of his coaching brethren!

Sad stuff. Can't count how many times I've walked home blind drunk and been thankful to somehow wake up in my own bed the next morning. This poor kid just didn't make it home.

Selfish fan: Geez, what's going to screw up our coaching search next?

Very sad story, however I am thankful that he was found to give the family some sort of closure.

The particulars of his crime were that two 16 year old girls were drunk at a party, and he had sex with one of them, when she passed out.

Him and another scumbag forced the other one to perform oral sex in a basement against her will. They wanted to charge him with rape and false imprisonment, but the state attorney decided for minor charges, and he served 6 months in jail. There are advocacy sites that to this day, allege that he was "let off easy" because of who his father is, and that he got away with rape.

I would say that foul play should be suspected here.

the only reason I would hesitate saying it was foul play was a worker at a company right by the river said he heard him yelling for help, I can't imagine if someone was wanting to take him out they would make sure there was no chance of getting out of the water alive. Even so the water is freezing cold there is the chance he could have swam to shore.

What a country. Somebody hears a guy yelling for help, and he doesn't help him.

Regardless of what he's done, this is devastating to his family. I wish them my best in getting through this and being able to carry on in their lives.

PS for all those mentioning walking home drunk ... the official stats show that you are significantly more likely to die per mile walked versus per mile driven when drunk. Moral of the story, if your going to get really drunk, pass out where you are or get a ride home.

    Two thoughts.

If all of us were put on trial for things we did when we were 18, there would probably be more people incarcerated than free.

The other is, no matter what, from experience within my family and in aiding others through a time such as this - there is no greater pain for a parent.

What if some one raped your child? How would you feel about burying them? I'm not trying to offend here, maybe your a way better person than me and could forgive. There are some actions that make me lose my ability to feel compasion. It's a failing I supose.

Unless he fell off the bridge nearby (possible) or was screwing around thinking the river was froze (not likely but who knows, a high school kid died two weeks ago thinking the ice wasnt too thin) i think foul play is very possible. Its pretty crazy in such a populated place with bars and college dorms and university police and the axletech building, that nothing happened until this afternoon.

Police are not yet publically linking Philbin's disappearance and the body pulled from the water, perhaps to "notify family". They have been searching all day yesterday and today, there were two holes in the thin ice. For the guy who heard the cry for help, reports say he called police right away. I would not expect him to go on the ice to try to help, dont need two lives in danger. This town was just shaken by a kid falling through the ice.

Feel bad for the family. I've seen parents lose "troubled" children. Lots of blame, guilt. Very horrible thing for the parents to endure.

I just lost a pet last week and it left me thinking thinking, "****, there's no way I could cope with the loss of a child."

18 year olds having sex with 16 year olds happens at every high school across the country.
They are all in High school together. it's going to happen.
If you were a senior in HS and a 16 yr. girl classmate comes at you at a party you would have passed?

The circumstances of the case however point a more serious picture.

Still Coach Philbin and his family are hurtin right now and for them it's sad.

Sanctimonious judgments aside Coach Philbin and his family must be going thru hell. There is no way a man should outlive his son. God knows I hope I don’t, he isn’t perfect BTW, but he is mine and I love him warts and all.

May you RIP young Mr. Philbin and to the Family may God give you grace..

Agree with this, but court documents indicate it wasn't consensual.
