Not baseball, according to ESPN..He told the rockies he will not be reporting to spring training.. I think the kid is a facinating prospect, and would love him on our team..I mean the liklihood of us getting RG3 is very slim, so the rest of the guys for me come down to Tannehill, Weeden, Wilson. We should be able to get one of those mother grabbers.. Wilson has everything in the arsenal besides height imo, Touch, arm strength, accuracy, great ability to extend plays and make those plays down the field, leadership, freakish vision of the field, and just that vibe that exudes the ''it'' factor... So where does that height thing fit in in the whole scheme of things..Is it a deal breaker for you when the kid seemingly has everything else you want in a prospect..??
I like Wilson, but I'm skeptical enough to not want to see us spend more than a 4th on him as of right now. If he's in the SR bowl, I'll certainly be interested to see how he performs. I wish Tannehill hand't gotten hurt.
Although, I do have concerns about his height, I am a big fan too! IMO, I think if we can't grab RGIII, then Wilson should be our guy. Steve
Its hard to slot this particular player right now, there are so many events he can compete in against his competition, it should be interesting to see where that position is after its said and done..I think he will test very well with his pure ability, great QB athleticism, and lively arm...If I had to guess where he goes, after testing well, I would say third round..Too much if he tests off the charts for you Stitch?? I'am not that upset about the injury to Tannehill, I think if anything, it may drop him a bit, which only helps us, I think.
I have Russell Wilson as a third rounder right now. I get the impression that he's a consensus 4th or 5th rounder though. I think that the league is fairly inflexible when it comes to size prototypes. I think that's why you often see great players like Zach Thomas or Ray Rice go way later than they should. I personally don't see the height as that big of a deal. The lineman have gotten so tall that even the 6'4" guys are mostly looking and throwing through passing lanes rather than over them. I prefer my QBs to be over 6'2", but there probably isn't any difference between a a 6'2" QB and and 5'11" QB that maybe stands a little taller in the pocket or is better at seeing and passing through the lanes.
Finally saw the light eh? I kid....but I am all aboard the Russell Wilson bandwagon. Hope we take a long hard look at him.
Just for fun, I wanted to see how Wilson stacked up against some of the other QB's coming out this year, so I did a little statistical comparison. I used data that I found on the ESPN website from this past football season. Please note: I am no expert, and I realize statistics don't tell the whole story and I didn't factor in other variables such as strength of schedule, but I thought it would be interesting never-the-less. Steve
As I've pointed out Deej, I've liked Wilson's game since his NC State days, but as Rafi points out there are legit reasons why he is in the bargain bin of the draft along with Kellen Moore, productive college passer with physical limitations. Can't hurt to look at him, and will be interesting to see where he winds up, but Qb's his height have very few success stories to convince a GM to roll the dice on them.
The height is a small issue for me, but it's more the running game he had that gives me the most hesitation about him. I liked him at NC State his JR year, and I thought he looked a little better this year. But was it growth as a player or because the run game was able to shoulder a lot of the burden? If it was growth, can he continue to grow? I'd have him rated higher than a 4th rounder if I thought he could keep growing and was closer to being able to start right away. I'm also not sure of the arm strength.
He's going to gain the most at the Senior Bowl, especially with Tannehill gone. He's on the North squad with Kellen Moore and Kirk Cousins...the three shortest QBs in the Senior Bowl all on the same team in the same practices. That'll help people forget about the height. I think he'll easily outperform both other QBs in practice and when everyone's being honest with themselves, they might even admit he's outperforming all three South QBs as well. They coach well at Wisconsin. I think it translates in these settings based on how I saw Scott Tolzien practice at Shrine practices. Being right next to Kellen Moore will help Russell differentiate himself, show that he's not just some short quarterback that can't throw the ball that well. He's got pro style offense experience, a sharp mind, a good arm, good accuracy, and I think he'll easily be the best QB in his squad. He could use that momentum to leap up into the 3rd round where he belongs.
