This has nothing to do with whether or not Fisher was the right coach.

I'm glad you feel that way, but the issue isn't as much that Fisher went to StL, but that once again, our bumbling owner screwed the pooch. He prognosticated a 'name brand' guy to run the organization. He courted name brand guys. He got Fisher to the point of accepting and then said, "Oh, BTW, Jeffy still gets personnel power. Now the one prerequisite of ANY name brand guy was going to be autonomy. Why even go after one if you are not willing to give him that power ?? Why advertise to all the fans that you will get a name brand guy if you never intended to give the candidates the options it would take to have them want to be here ?? This isn't about losing Fisher the coach, it's about losing the respect of the rest of the league, the respect of your fans and your players and potential players...Ross screwed up royally on this, once again...

The only silver lining on this is maybe Ross goes crazy and forces Ireland to trade up for a qb

    Sorry but no.

Why aren't they coaching anywhere else? We haven't been the only ones to try and lure them out of TV.

    Then why does it matter?

Seriously. For years the Packers and the Patriots were the big jokes in the NFL. Now they are loved.

I think it does. I'm saying there are better choices out there than Fisher. Now the question is whether ownership makes that right choice (Toub or Bowles), the wrong one (Zimmer), or one I'm not sure how it comes out.

Look at it this way, Bilichick was floundering once, and he got lucky in picking a QB and changed his entire career around. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut as they say ...

    Exactly.

    They were not "destinations".

One hired a former failed HC, and the other some coordinator.
One lucked up and found a QB, the other drafted one in the first round.
One brings in free agents all the time, the other doesn't.
One is a large market, the other is a small market.
One HC came in with a "GM", the other was hired by the GM already there.

Everything people are *****ing about is proven wrong by these two franchises.

I remember the days when people would fall over themselves to work for The Miami Dolphins. The franchise alone spoke for itself. Now,they get jerked around and used by coaches going to a less then stellar organization. We have serious trouble here folks. There is no light at the end of the tunnel as far as I`m concerned. What really burns me up is Ross refuses to acknowledge the big picture.

    I'm so down w/ that!

I don't know what it is, but when I watched him on Hard Knocks '09, I felt this guy just seems to know football, and knows how to deal w/ players. Was just something about him, and that '09 team was pretty good too, lead by defense (same as this year). He's a good coach, and I'm ready for him to lead us if we're lucky enough.

There's a difference between having to work for Ireland and being a pushover. The best a Miami fan skeptical of Ireland can hope for is a coach who will push him on personnel decisions, being vocal enough about them that he will at least sometimes influence Ireland to change his mind.

Somebody needs to put him in his place, that's for sure. Not that Ireland's football brain isn't salvageable, but he could use a good talking too sometimes, that's for sure.

    Back in Miami

    Absolutely.

If any franchise should have learned by now NOT to give coaches full control it's this one.
Even a top coach like Shula couldn't handle it.
I don't give any coach full control at this point no matter who it is.
GM is one of the most important pieces of a football franchise.

The debate on Ireland is raging but don't leg it cloud anyones judgement on how important that position is.

If Fisher was demanding complete control we unquestionably made the right decision NOT giving it to him IMO.

In the history of the league, the standard operating procedure, is that the GM hires the coach, not the other way around. Why is that all of a sudden bad? Because an average coach with no real GM record chose some other team?

    Sigh.

Yeah, he was. Check his record.

Other proven winners looking to coach are Billick and Shotty.

NONE of the assistant coach candidates are proven. And that worked out so well the last 3 guys.

Not really. He is barely above .500. Barely.

I wasn't aware that Billick & Shotty were interviewed, offered the job, then declined because there was a GM already.

He's a master at special teams. He has been strength or special teams coach almost his whole career, so he will probably not make waves on the defense and can probably attract top OC talent because he won't want to piss in their Cheerios. We can expect the Dolphins special teams to be top notch. Have you ever seen a team with good special teams that sucks? I haven't. They're always at least decent because special teams is about fundamentals. He is also known for having a great deal of creativity in his special teams game planning.

He's the guy who excites me.

I think the thing that may excite me is the part about fundamentals. If we can get a coach who works on that - we may have a fighting chance.

I was thinking the same thing, he likes to think outside of the box.

While I have reservations about him as a HC because he has never been one on any level he is starting to grow me, but then again after two years in a row of being left at the altar I am kinda in the "why the hell not" mode.
