It doesn't hurt that the guy with the resume most like his I can think of is John Harbaugh.

The only thing we know for a fact is that last offseason was the only one we can say wasn't controlled by Parcells. Since that's the only one we can be sure was Ireland's responsibility, I'm not sure how we know enough to say he is bad.

We do however, have 16 years to know Fisher is merely an average HC.

That's true, he was a ST coach wasn't he. Coincidentally, he also drafted a decent QB right away too. Let's hope the same happens here (or Moore becomes "the guy").

Wow, great call Jimmy, didn't know that till you told me and then looked it up. That makes me more comfortable if he is the choice.

Is he or does he just have Devis Hester?
I'm not being snarky, it just a question, because I know nothing about him.

I wasnt referring to head coaches exclusively. I`m talking about the Shula days, when THEY called the shots on who to bring into the Dolphin Domain. Now they have to put out feelers and hope they get a positive response.

On a side note- You`re pretty argumentative today. Relax before you blow a gasket. :wink2:

It's not just the return game. His special teams have been highly regarded all around and have been highly regarded for special teams since his Eagles days, and he had not just Hester but his kicker (Gould) and Brendon Ayenbadejo go to the Pro Bowl in 2006 for special teams. His special teams have also been widely praised for creativity and unusual formations. That's why I say it's not just Hester.

3 things:
1. When Shula was here was a different story. He was Shula. No coach has ever had the pull he has. He was Frank Sinatra. You can't compare anything to that, because there will never be another.

2. This whole thing has been bat **** crazy. People act like we struck out on Cowher & Gruden & Fisher. We didn't strike out on any of them actually. The first two aren't coming out of retirement and Fisher wanted more than he deserved. That's not striking out, that's being smart.

3. I've only been not smoking for 2 weeks so I hate everyone and every thing.

It's a perceived artificial scarcity situation. There was only one pretty obvious candidate actually out there interviewing, and there were two teams who it seemed wanted him. Trust me folks: Jeff Fisher is not the only decent coach out there for Miami. The trick is getting ownership to hire one of the good ones.

He is over aggressive to a fault. His defenses have been unimaginative for years, and he is the king of calling the all out blitz that gets you beat for a 80 yard touchdown in a tied game. I know some Cowboy fans that hated him more than some people here hated Wanny.

The liklihood of Fisher being as good of a talent evaluator as he is coach is slim to none, that's why you have GM's and coaches, and they both have separate duties and skillsets..

There is data proving that doing both jobs ends in failure..

I agree, stick to coaching, and let a personnel guy do his job, if the coach wants both your ****ing with the entire scope of the franchise's future..

I liked Fisher and wanted him to be our coach but not under these circumstances of him being the coach, and the final say on personnel..

I believe in the talents of the GM position in this league.

On a side note can someone hand Armando a stick and tell him that's not a beehive but a pinata:

Armando Salguero
And then this: My flight to Boston delayed 2 hours so far because there's a BEEHIVE in the cargo hold. AA waiting on fumigator.

I wanted Fisher. I've thought he was as solid a coach as there has been in the NFL over the past 2 decades.

I'll admit that his 6 winning seasons out of 16 scared me. But I thought he was still solid, and would get players to play at least AT their talent level. Which would help us and Ross fairly evaluate Jeff Ireland's personnel decisions.

He was the best choice because he was the safest choice. But I never believed he was a home run. So as much as today is a loss because the Phins didn't get who they wanted. It wasn't all or nothing.

Fisher clearly wanted to come here, despite how "bad" Ross and Ireland are made out to be. He was willing to work with a GM he didn't hand pick.

The question, one that may never honestly be answered, is this;
Where did the division of personnel exist?

Did Fisher want final say on draft day? On FA's? If so what did Fisher ever do in Tennessee to qualify for that? Dolphins already made that mistake with Wannstedt.
OR
Did Fisher simply want final say on who stays on the 53 man roster?
I can't blame Ross if he didn't want to repeat the Wanny era of personnel decisions. But if he refused to give Fisher the power to say I'm keeping Will Allen and cutting Benny Sapp, then he is the idiot everyone claims he is.

But we don't know.

He has a defense that has Crocker as a safty that is not completely terrible. Saban wasn't able to do that.

I think the jury is still out on Ireland. I'm not that angry about him being retained because a lot of teams are hiring GMs and I don't really see all these great candidates available. DeCosta isn't leaving Baltimore. I mean, is Ryan Grigson really a better option?

Boom crisis averted! I'm still a little bothered that people continuously refuse to work with Ireland though, when is Ross going to take the hint?
