Its strictly my opinion but it's just starting to feel like Marty, Jeff and Carl will all be here. With him stopping by Tampa, I can't believe he won't get a call to take a copter ride over to South Beach. I also wouldn't be surprised to see us call Martz for an interview.

I would be happy with Marty.. sure he's not a long term guy, but he's a great coach and would help turn this franchise around for sure. Few years down the road, we hire a new coach.

I've been against it. But if he really wants to come back and has the energy and wherewithal to do the job properly, we could do alot worse, I suppose.

I know but if they were going to interview Mularkey then anyone should be on the table.

The guy builds winners, just not in the playoffs but at this point one step at a time, so while everyone's first reaction is UGH, if we can't find anyone else, what have we really got to lose? Besides playoff games, lol.

On the surface it looks like a desperate move but I actually think he would be a good transition for an interim period .He is respected ,he has a winning track record ,he wont make any of those rookie coach mistakes in time management and wasted timeouts .

Lets face it .As long as Ross imposes Ireland as a GM we are not likely to be able to hire a high profile coach .This is as close as we can get to one.Hiring a rookie HC is risky .Who wants to go through another Cam Cameron type of year.

There is not much to choose from this year so Marty could be a temporary solution for a couple of years.Perhaps by then Ross will understand that Ireland is a lightweight and ineffective GM and move on to a higher profile GM and regime.

IMO a rookie HC is destined for failure with Ireland as GM.

It wouldn't bea bad move, but I'd much rather take a chance on someone like Zimmer and gamble that he's the next Tomlin and fail than play Martyball and improve but hit the lower ceiling

Not like Cameron, not really defending him just adding, had High School players playing on that team after so many injuries...

Well we seem to be in need of a HC that can continue to fine tune the team, we don't need a total restructure, we need someone that has experience and knows what it takes...

Marty seems to fit the profile, and so does Billick...

Ross is quoted as saying potential candidates are playing this weekend. Find out who Ross is pulling for, the candidate is on the other team and with every win the more money he would have to pay/more difficult to ink.

You know the old saying "he forgot more about football than most will ever know?" I'm not sure we want to truly test that cliche.

Signed Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Mike McCarthy.

There are successes and failures at everything, you just have to pick a direction and find the right person for the job.

As concerns Marty, there are certainly far worse choices out there (Wade Phillips, Brad Childress), but I just don't see him having it at this age. My only hope would be something Bill Simmons touched on in his recent article - that Marty is at the "**** it, Im old and doing whatever the hell I want" stage where you see him lose his shell and his cautious/conservative nature and go balls to the walls. That always seemed to be his Achilles heel, he never seized victory and let the big games slip past.

I love Marty Schottenheimer! But not just no, Hell No! Way to old and I want a coach that, if successful, will be here a long time.

Shula wanted Schottenheimer to replace him, right?

Take the best coach. It makes sense in a weird, bizzaro world way that any team would be so quick to dismiss Marty based on age, since Marty (not Martz!) is obviously the best candidate.

However, it's now become Ireland's swan song, so he should take whoever he thinks he'll have the most success with. Whoever they hire should bring harmony to the front office IMO. However, sometimes it's better to juxtapose personalities against each other like the '85 Bears.

Prior to Jeff Fisher being explored, Marty Schottenheimer has been my pick for our head coach. Marty Schottenheimer was Don Shula's pick as his successor alas, Wayne Huizenga chose Jimmy Johnson instead. There's ZERO doubt about Marty's abilities. He's been a success where ever he's been, Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego with the only failure being in Washington.

If we could get Marty here, even if only for a few seasons to turn us around, then perhaps that would attract talented coaches that would like to take the helm of the Dolphins when/if Marty decided to retire.

He is 68 and long way from being done.George Halas Sr. and Marv Levy both coached in the NFL until they were 72.

Don Shula was 66 when he was retired. He could have easily coached into his 70s if he wasnt forced out.

I'd love to see Marty come to Miami. I was hoping we'd hire him a while back. His bad luck in the playoffs have to end eventually and the guy builds winners.

Marty is a great coach. I just don't see him as any sort of long term solution. At this point I'm tired of the coaching carousel thats been going on in Miami. We desperately need some stability.

While you are indeed correct, that stability is indeed needed (something I've been an advocate for for quite some time), the problem is we can't get the coaches here in Miami that are young enough to provide that stability as well as turn the organziation around. They won't come here!

    This year with Jeff Fisher
    Last year with Jim Harbaugh
Tell me a coach that wanted to be under the thumb of Bill Parcells?

This is why Marty would actually be a SMART choice for the short run of turning the organziation around, with an under the table, end around on the Rooney Rule bequeathment of the team to a designated successor to continue what Marty began and continue what I know would be the successful turn around of the team. Get Marty to fix the team and then turn it over to the young hot shot Shula of the 21st century.

It would make Miami once again relevent, restore respect as a winning franchise, motivate the fanbase and restore the pride of being a Dolfan.

But then again, the owner's name is Stephen Ross, not TDK...alas, this won't happpen.

If I remember correctly, the Skins heated up at the end of that year. I thought it was a mistake for Snyder to fire him.

Imo, it wouldn't TDK, not that the NFL media matters, it is more we'd be seen as settling for him because no one else would take the job.

Though I agee with TDK that what we need now is an experienced head coach who is a proven winner and will bring a stable system to take us back to respectability, Marty could be too old school. Can you teach an old dog new tricks; or more importantly, can he teach himself?
