I think Nolan is best suited to be the next Fins' HC. I've read up on all the candidates and he is one of the few that has had HC experience. I realize he performed poorly as HC with the 9ers but I'm sure he's learned from his mistakes. Bowles talks like Forrest Gump and IS NOT THE ANSWER. The other candidates that are seriously being considered (Toub, Zimmer) don't have any experience as HC.
I'll pass. Dude blows as a HC. Great DC though. No need to make him something he isn't... Some guys are just great coordinators, and not good HCs. Cam Cam is a perfect example...
You can't look at every failed coach as Bill Belichick, that would just put our franchise into a deeper hole.
Only 3 of the 12 coaches (25%) who made the tournament this year had previous NFL HC experience when they joined their team. I just don't see previous HC experience as any prerequisite to success. No thank you to the next Falcons DC.
Look, we've had some bad success with taking hot coordinators or hot college coaches, but that shouldn't deter you from taking the best option. Maybe Nolan would have better success the second time around, but he was not a very good HC before. Toub, Zimmer, Carmichael, even Chudzinski are hot OCs that are ready or close to it. I'd even look at Billick before Nolan. Nolan's pretty good at what he does, but he's also a part of the 0-7 we experienced this season... Do we really want that leading us again ??
You also can't just look at failed coaches and say that suck. I don't know if even want Nolan, but you can't just say. "well he failed his first time as a head coach so he sucks." Every situation and coach is different. That's all I'm saying.
Where the coach comes from is irrelevant. College, coordinators, old coaches (though there are veeeeeerrrrryyyyyy few old coaches that have SB wins with other teams) all have examples of success and failure. We don't need a coach that called plays on offense or defense. We need the best motivator we can get. Cam is and was one of the best OC out there, can't motivate his way out of a paper bag. Its the only thing ALL winning coaches have in common. The thing MOST winning coaches have is a franchise QB.
I understand that, I had made a thread not too long ago asking why Nolan wasn't getting head coaching looks from other teams. I believe some coaches need second chances but I just don't think comparing coaches to Belicheat is the best thing to do.
Since Nolan has not even been interviewed for the job, it is highly unlikely he will the next Dolphins HC. While he is now under contract with the Dolphins, it is very likely that the next head coach will want to recruit his own coaching staff. If Nolan is not retained as the Dolphins DC, it appears that he will probably end up as the Saints new DC. Greg Williams, the DC of the Saints this past season is reported to be leaving the Saints to work with Fisher in St. Louis.
The only reason why Belicheat is even considered or said to be the greatest HC ever is because he lucked out with Brady. Had he never drafted Brady, he would've been just another decent to above average HC.
