has asked the Raiders to take his name out of the running. May be first indication that he has a deal in place with the Phins. Or not.

Interesting. I mean I'm not sure the current Oakland environment is good for a 1st time HC, but I'd think he would take the interview if he had even the slightest interest in the job.

We've been interviewing everyone and their mother. I think it may at least be partly due to the fact a callback is far better than a simple meet and greet.

IIRC the Raiders only have 2 picks (5-6) remaining in the upcoming draft and are a divisional foe.

Ross had a great idea last year chasing Harbaugh, poor execution. I hope his instincts are just as sharp with McCoy/Philbin.

Not necessarily a great reason to turn down an interview for such a unique position IMO, but perhaps you're right.

ESPN's Adam Schefter said Wednesday that several people around the league believe Ross favors Philbin, whose offense finished No.1 in the NFL this season after winning the Super Bowl last year, while general manager Jeff Ireland favors McCoy, who has earned praise for the way he changed the Broncos' offense on the fly to suit Tim Tebow this season.

Well I take this with a grain of salt. Just about every "insider" has been guessing at this point. All the Jeff Fisher misinformation has left me skeptical of just about every report.

Well that's interesting. I hope he's right or he's just shunning the Raiders because they are the Raiders (a divisional rival). What does Rob Lowe think?

Where? I have seen nothing that suggests that. I can't help but get the feeling that if Philbin gets the job, it would be more for the PR of getting the guy who coached the #1 offense in the league rather than anykind of head coaching ability he has shown. The last guy we hired that coached the #1 offense in the league was Cam Cameron.

Oh. I still think it will be McCoy. He fits the characteristics that Ross stated this past weekend that he tends to look for in his business.....young, hungry, out to prove himself.

McCoy believes himself the leading candidate

Mike McCoy is scheduled to interview with the Dolphins on Thursday, the last of the three second-round interviews the team is conducting as it tries to find a new head coach. But this one might be more significant than the other two in that McCoy tangibly believes the job is his to lose.

Acccording to a source, McCoy considers himself the front-runner in the Miami job and is so confident of this status, he took his name out of consideration for the vacant Oakland Raiders job. McCoy was scheduled to interview for that Raiders opening in Denver on Wednesday but ultimately declined.

The source, who requested anonymity said the Raiders were not thrilled with the apparent snub but were made to understand that McCoy believes himself the front-runner in Miami and he didn't want to do anything to hinder that status.

I think we're reading too much into the McCoy canceling his interview with the Raiders. It was a second interview with Miami. As a practical matter, you cancel your first interview that was scheduled if someone calls you back for a second interview on the same day.

Thing that worries me about McCoy is he got his start under John Fox, and coached under him again this year. I worry that he will embody the John Fox coaching mentality is play good defense, don't turn over the ball and run the ball. Basically more of what we have seen for the last few years. I could be wrong, but other than one year with McDaniels his entire career he has been mentored under the Fox coaching tree.

Why aren't the Raiders chasing Philbin? Thier new GM, is from Green Bay, is interviewing our DB coach but not the OC of the NFL's best Offense. Seems a bit strange to me.

I don't cancel any interviews until I have a job offer in hand (and even then I might not). If both interviews are supposed to be on the same day and I can't swing it, I make sure we can reschedule.

Fox and the panthers got to a superbowl way more recently than Miami.

I presume Reggie just hasn't gotten to him yet. Supposedly we haven't interviewed anyone from GB but plan on checking at least 3 of them out.

I don't know much about McCoy other than what I've read over the past week but he sure seems to WANT to be the Dolphins head coach. Seems hungry and dedicated.

And that talk of the offensive line prompted McCoy to talk about his hopes for his unit in 2011.

"We need to get back to the old Bronco way of running the football here," he said. "With our head coach, John Fox, he is determined to run the ball. When I was in Carolina with him, we had a two-headed monster every week. From our first transaction made in free agency with Stephen Davis back in 2003, he and DeShaun Foster led us to the Super Bowl running the football. Then we had DeShaun and DeAngelo (Williams), then we got Jonathan Stewart from Oregon once DeShaun left and went to San Francisco. So we will do a great job running the football and get back to the way Terrell (Davis) used to run the ball here."

    http://www.denverbroncos.com/news-a...ilosophy/410bfb18-53d4-4d7e-91fd-713a950ba5b5

Next Concern: His play calling was really predictable. I can't count how many times the Broncos would run the ball on first down. Not to mention a lot of run, run, pass punt. Granted that could have been because a lack of trust in Tebow, but at some point you have to mix it up.

Pretty impossible to tell what kind of offense he'd like to run compared to what he's forced to run with Tebow as his QB.

    The gracken!

But anyway...I just cant decide what I think of him....on one hand - you can only do so much with Tebow...on the other hand, Orton looked like **** compared to some past efforts. At the same time - does his OC history even matter if hes HC?

Meh...just playin' it wait and see at this point.
