Well, I've always thought he was an attractive looking man. Wait, what...

And, I never said "a little bit of control." I said he wanted wanted more say so on player personnel decisions than Ross and Ireland wanted to give him. And, that was due in a large part to what went down in Tennessee. I'm not arguing with you BTW Fin D, because I don't even know what the debate is about. I was just being a bit of a smart a$$ when I posted before. No offense bro. :knucks:

All kidding aside, I think it was totally preposterous to choose Ireland over Fisher. Which, is exactly what Ross did IMO.

Hey, has anybody done any research about what low ranking/later round QB McCoy may have ties to? Common school, previously dated his mom, owes his dad some money....etc...

If not then you research guys are dropping the ball here.

All they need to do is win and Mike McCoy gets his own street in Miami.

When it comes to making personel decisions a good philosophy is, "Eff the fans, go for the wins." Fans will always come with wins.

Maybe different if he had final say.

And of course your assumption Fisher would cancel out everything Ireland did.
Because you got that going for ya.

I believe that Peyton Manning will be the QB of the Jets in 2012. This will elevate the Jets back into the playoffs for the next few years. The Patriots will continue to be the dominant team in the AFC East. This means that the Dolphins and Bills will continue to try and escape the cellar in the AFC East for at least three more years.

It doesn't matter which of the three coaches are hired. The Dolphins appear headed for about the same mediocre records over the next three or four years which they have suffered during the last three seasons. I just wonder who the next, "young Shula', will be when the Dolphins go on their next coaching search after the 2014 season.

After a couple of Super Bowl wins that is. A few wins and more wasted time while are current good players go past expiration date will cause the Owner to go HC shopping yet again.

He didn't choose Ireland over Fisher. He chose a traditional GM and HC set up over the HC having control.

You have to understand, there is no way to give Fisher or any coach "more say". That doesn't actually mean anything.

For example, say Ireland wants to draft Julio Buckley and Fisher wants to draft Billy Lineman. Following the "more say" concept, who gets drafted? Either Ireland drafts who he wants or he has to do what Fisher says. There is no in between.

    LOL. What?

Of course there, it is called "consensus" and compromise. The owner breaks ties. it;s how it has worked with Belicheat all these years, and basically every other big name coach.

    Ok.

I had two roommates once. I told them we each had a vote. I said their votes counted as one each and mine counted as 1.5. The dumber of my roommates was outraged. That's the same thing going on here.

If Ross already wants Ireland to have final say, then what's he point of pretending Fisher would have a vote? Every decision would be 2-1.

Yes, I do. But, I must confess I'm still not sure what's at the heart of this debate. All I know is I was truly disappointed when we didn't land Fisher. And, I think it was an egregious error on the part of Ross to not find a way to come to terms with Fisher. Ireland is not worth losing Fisher over IMVHO.

    That is my position FWIW.

Which is fair. I don't see what's been so great about Fisher. I wouldn't have blasted them had they got him.

Personally, I think the coach is less important than the QB in this day and age.

I'm not even sure of the validity of all the Fisher/ Ireland control drama that has been tossed around.
Fisher stated he wanted to go to a team with a good QB and a good owner. All the while it was being reported that Fisher was going to be here he was out having dinner withe Bradford and the boys. Not sure if we even stood a chance as at the end Ross merely stated we were interested.
Anyways water under the bridge as he is now the coach of the Rams.

As for the speculation on the McCoy hiring I'm taking a wait and see approach. Sure it is not a sexy hire we thought we would get but relax and get off the cliff Dolphin fans. I'm not a big fan of rookie HC's either but hell to bash a coach and a team before an announcement is just ridiculous but typical of the fanbase.
It could get real bumpy around here so save your tantrums for later.

If Fisher didn't fall in love with Miami, then he's probably not winning us a SB, nor do I want him here.

I seriously doubt Harbaugh was leaving California. We were merely leverage.

Every owner wants to sell tickets. Ross hiring McCoy tells me he's more concerned with the big picture, future, and overall good of the franchise rather than making a rash decision to initially appease fans.

    Wins sell tickets.
It doesn't matter how long or short he's been a head coach. If he wins, fans will show up, just as fans showed up in New Orleans with Sean Payton despite a natural disaster having ravaged their city.

Right. According to REPORTS and SOURCES, it was Ross that told Fisher "No Thanks" after not being able to come to an agreement on the structure of the organization.

It was an outlandish demand that he didn't want to call Jeff Ireland "Boss" ??? Give me a break. We went down looking on 3 pitches.

And I like the hypocrisy on your business theory. Its not a standard business to season ticket holder, but it is a standard business when searching for a coach? Its good business to commit a total taboo and court a coach, while one is in place? That is good business, when it alienates and turns off every potential candidate in what is basically a fraternity?

Ironically, Irsay made the same mistake when he reached out to Fisher, before firing Caldwell. Now all the reports show Fisher "wasn't interested in the Colts." Of course he wasn't, they had a Coach. And its taboo in THAT business.

I think their energy can play well with each other.

  32. What I find really strange about this, if the story is true, why wouldn't Ross agree to act as an arbitrator if he really wanted Fisher here. Something does not add up right to me. I also find it surprising that Fisher would request owner intervention after his Bud Adams experience.

    Wow.

Ok, Fisher wants a structure most teams don't have, but there's some other reason in your mind? Ok sure, whatever you say.

Next you're going to tell me that pro sport franchises are better served trying to please fans than winning games. Lol. Sure thing.

So in conclusion, had we made Fisher fall in love with Miami he would of won a SB, Harbaugh played the "great" Ireland/Ross duo, and hiring McCoy is kinda like a natural disaster.

I think they're equally important. Moreover, I think the chemistry between the two is what championship caliber teams are built on. All you have to do is look at the Patriots to see that.

The truth that I think will never come out is that Ross never had a relationship with Parcells. So outside of Peterson's consulting, Ross only has Ireland to lean on in his expensive NFL hobby. He sadly is scared to act without him. Yes its my speculation, but I'd bet 5K, thats what is going on in Ross' head.

This is dead on IMO. It is the original reason Ross retained Ireland in the first place.
He would have been like a seven year old kid stranded on a deserted island.
