no offense but i hate fans who only are fans when things are going good. Real fans stick with their team through the good and bad. I mean cubs fans are still cubs fan and they have not won in 100+ years.

It's not possible BPK, no way u could ever watch the NFL and not root for this team. I'm a Dolphins, Knicks and Mariners fan and I'd like to dump all of them to be honest.....but easier said than done.

It's way off. I said this is similar to the Cameron hiring, and it is. I never said I expect to have the worst season in franchise history. I certainly hope we don't. Truth is, I don't know what to think about Philbin yet. All I know about is Ross and Ireland, and they have left me less than inspired through recent years.

This resembles the Cameron hiring.......how? And for the record, if that was your intended meaning it wasn't very clear.

Bpk I understand where you are coming from . its sad when the press talks about the afc east and how they use the excuse of but the dolphins are in the afc east and the patriots will be on top for a long time.. I think what you are experiencing is a case of DWTS meaning you are suffering from dave wannstedt Tony Sparano syndrome you can take a penicillin shot but what you need is what we all need. and that is to see a different type of offense , new uniforms , new helmets and some bigtime players to come to Miami and then seeing the dolphins win a super bowl.

It's tough to support a team when things take a dump for a decade or more.Even more so when they have had a tradition of playing well for so long.I still love my dolphins but good gawd they better start winning again!

Messages and texts sometimes aren't clear. Here's my stance, coming with all due respect. I feel Ross has hurt the franchise by sticking by Ireland. He hurt us last year with Harbaugh, and who knows the extent of that throughout the league. I think it scared away the Cowhers or Grudens on what used to be an ideal coaching situation, because the owner lacks in NFL etiquette, plus those guys aren't touching our current GM situation. A guy like Huizenga used to go and get his man though.

I was rooting for, well, I don't know if any hiring would have made me happy. I was more looking for Ross to get away from Ireland, and let the whole Parcells era die. I liked Fisher. I am so tired of losing, I wanted a safe and experienced head coach who maybe, under better/less management could evolve...and who was still young enough to evolve. I liked Zimmer, cause at least I know he's mean, and his D will be tough, and his team will be tough.

Philbin...reminds me of Cam Cameron. A confident, not so young, offensive mind. But an offensive mind from an established machine. Cameron was part of a system with a great staff and awesome players. But he was just a cog. Left on Dolphin Island, he flopped.

Philbin was part of the Green Bay machine. Too many All-stars throughout the organization to bank on just him as being our savior. A coordinator who didn't call plays, who had the aid of a better QB than we could ever hope to get...possibly the best player in all the NFL. And a stellar surrounding cast of players as well. Again, Philbin is one of many parts of that machine.

In 07' we were hungry for offense and excitement and a new look in Miami, so we went for the offensive name in the lights. It feels like this is what we did here. We went after the highest profile offensive coach out there. With McCoy, at least he kinda made chicken salad out of Chicken ****. And he is young, and so you don't ask, "why hasn't this happened for him already?" in a league where coaching turnover is constant.

Respectfully, this is my opinion. And I hope to god it doesn't come to fruition...because I don't like any other sports. I'm all in on football, and its my passion and a favorite past time I share with my family. But it feels like again, we have an owner who is hungry to sell his seats and create an exciting product. And it seems he thinks offense creates the excitement. So he went and poached the man who garnishes the OC title from the best offense in the league...like in 07.

My biggest problem is people disrespecting other opinions. And it has made me get a bit surly here. I dish on Fin D, because I consider him a friend. This is a message board. People are gonna love, like, and hate the hire. People have a right to argue opinions. But it should be with respect and some thought. Not "this is sooo stoopit ZOMG, werst of all times." If you're tired of conflicting opinions, a message board isn't the place to go.

Was with you till your second to last sentence. You're the one claiming this resembles the "worst year in franchise history" with little to no proof except that Philbin is an OC from a good offense. Do you see the hypocrisy there? And seriously, if we're going to start avoiding all OCs from good offenses as candidates for head coach we might as well just withdraw from the NFL because that would mean we clearly don't even want to attempt to get better and win games, especially in an offensive run league.

I'm claiming this resembles the Cam Cameron hire. The problem is, YOU throw in "the worst year in franchise history", and then another careless poster skims all the posts, and misquotes me as saying "we are going to have the worst season ever under philbin" which is exactly what I am NOT saying, and have never said. And I preferred McCoy, who was also an offensive coach.

Disagree, and tell me this looks nothing like the Cameron hire. I have cited several reasons why it does, yet all anybody can say is "why cuz he iz an OC?" Hell, you're entitled to do that, and I will think you're wrong. I THINK you need to wear heavy aqua blinders to not see several parallels, and thats my right and the whole point of a message board.

And you can even call me a hypocrite, I know I am a hypocrite. Not on this matter, but in life...absolutely. But here, you're mixing words and thoughts to make me into a hypocrite.

Don't tell me I'm putting words in your mouth or misquoting you when I'm only going by what you yourself posted. You've gone from a hypocrite to simply full of **** and I'm done with you because you're no longer worth my time. Should have left after week 2...but then again you're a hypocrite.

You're right, you only say it "resembles" the worst season in franchise history. So, I'll give you back a fraction of the credit I took away from you, but your post is still ridiculous. Having issues with the hire is one thing, but comparing it to Cam Cameron hire is plain silly. Show me one thing , besides them both being OC's, where there's a similarity.

The reason we are so galvanized on this issue is that there's a lot of unknown with this hire. He could be the next Sean Payton, or to your extreme, he could be the next Cam. We don't know, so I don't know wh anyone is wasting their time bemoaning that this is such a horrible hire. Here's an idea, how about giving the benefit of the doubt and see how it turns out? I doubt it will Be worse than Sparano, and it has the possibility to be an exciting offense for the first time since Danny left
    point.

    And that's Dr-big-boobs-tennis-avatar-person to you

And what does that even mean? My english was clearly messed up and I think you AND Ohio know it. What I wrote there does not make ANY sense. You know I meant that it "resembles the hire that lead to our worst season in history." It resembles the Cameron hire.

Out of all my valid points, all you see is a fragmented sentence, that I hardly remembered writing. And all you can do is name call.

Bingo, but I'll ad that there were a lot of fake fans and part-timers on here this past year. Real or true fans support the team when we are down. These people are the "they lost" or "we won" types.

My fan dedication to the Dolphins goes way back to the beginning and it is a tradition in my family. My dad and I used to watch the Dolphins together since they first came into the AFL in 1966. We watched Dolphin games together until he passed away in 1973. Now my son is a Dolphin fan also, although we don't get to watch games together because he lives in Florida and I live here in Virginia. We do talk on the phone about the games and I hope he carries on the tradition when I am gone. The Dolphins are part of the family and just like any family there are good times, and bad times. I wont jump ship or abandon my family when there are bad times and I wont do that to the Dolphins either.

No offense to BPK or anyone else, but I get sick and tired of reading people on this board complaining and whining about how bad this team has been for the last 10 years or so. Let me put it this, by the time I was old enough to understand what was going on in the football game Marino had already retired. The only real memory I have of Marino was listening to his last game on the radio as we got brutalized by the Jags. The older guys on this board have at least seen the team in a Super Bowl, and the guys who are barely older me at least got to watch Dan. Everything I know about the Dolphins is from Wanny on, a fandom built through mediocrity. If I can deal with IT and root this team on every season, so you can you.

It is possible to "fall out of love" but if they are in your heart (where the love of a franchise truly comes from) you will never leave.

I know this first hand. When my beloved Boston Bruins traded Joe Thornton (team captain at the time, #1 overall pick, just signed a cap friendly contract) to the Sharks for a bag of pucks in a deal that is widely considered one of the most one sided in NHL history I wanted to divorce them. The following season they hired the WORST coach available and he proceeded to neuter the team, taking away their trademark toughness and they were AWFUL. I wanted out. They were impossible to deal with but even when they were one of the worst teams in the league, with the worst coach in the league playing meaningless April games I found searching out streams and cheering like they were in the playoff chase. I realized that you can not REALLY fall out of love with a franchise no mater how crappy they treat you.

Eventually, you get payback for your love and dedication (unless you are a Cubs fan). My Bruins won the Cup and are one of the best teams in the league this year with a core of good young players, more youth in the system and are in great salary cap shape. They should contend for the next 5 years with the team as it is currently constructed. Watching one of my two teams win a Championship was rewarding, it only made me think about how it would feel to see a Dolphin hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

nice post, my first memories of the dolphins were with dan i was like 6 or 7 but like you when i started to really know the ins and outs of the game dan was gone and we had wanny. ive never seen the dolphins in a championship game nevermind a superbowl. the closest i remember was in 1994 when pete stoyanavich missed the field goal to send them to the afc championship.

but the miami dolphins are in my blood cant help it, things have to get better in this day and age when a team like san fran goes from 6-10 to a couple botched punts from the superbowl the next year can be THE year at any time.

for those of us who got to watch Marino in the 80's, we're spoiled, fact of life...but honestly, the dysfunction has being going on for so long, I'm used to it. Pornstache's winning was like makeup on the dysfunction. Messed up drafts, wrong free agents, wrong QB's, wrong trades, wrong coaches, what's not to love? i welcome the dysfunction. winning is easy, it takes REAL talent to bethis messed up for this long

I'm very happy with the Philbin choice - but Ross & Ireland are irritating.

Indeed one can fall out of love with a team. I've had great & deep passions for other teams but over time found myself losing interest with ineptitude and then for a variety of reasons finding interest in other teams. As Boomer said some time ago, if they hired Marty Schott... he'd be done with the team. On the other hand, sometimes a player or coach makes one a fan.

I always respected Shula and the Dolphins (and rooted for them to go undefeated in '72) but was not a diehard fan (e.g. rooted for other teams, sometimes against them, ala the Raiders in '74 & '76 - loved those teams). But, when Marino got there, I was immediately hooked (I was a huge Marino fan from his freshman year in college onward - loved his release and gunslinger attitude).

This can happen with other sports and other teams.

There really is no rational reason for rooting for a "team." It is especially so when one begins to look behind the uniform. It may be that the players one is rooting for are scoundrels as human beings - and the ones one is rooting against are great ppl off the field. The fact that they wear a particular jersey and therefore one will root for them - is quite absurd. But, such is the world of fandom.

Yes you can. People get divorced every day. I've been following the NFL since 1968. Originally and still a closet Giant fan. Been a Dolphan since the first game I went to after moving down here on December 2, 1985. Had season tickets until 2004 (never liked saban) and have never lost one moment of sleep because of the team.

If you take losses harder than the players do, you need to seek help.
