http://m.pbpost.com/pbpost/pm_32380/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=H1Qr4Zn8 Peyton would look good in a this uniform
And Peyton Manning would sell out the building before stepping foot onto the field...which is another reason Ross might do anything and pay anything to sign him. I don't think he likes seeing a stadium that is only 70% full when not playing teams like Jets, Pats, and Eagles (and season ticket sales would go back up, so the stadium wouldn't be half full of opposing teams fans again). Not to mention grab every single headline and shine a spotlight on us, which we know he likes. And as fans it would be amazing to see the Dolphins go into Indianapolis with Peyton against Luck. As much as I try not to get my hopes up for it, I can't help it. It's been 20 years since the Phins made it out of the divisional round of the playoffs...I was too young, so I've never seen this team even sniff the super bowl. To steal the Giants motto I'd be "all in" for this.
Agreed. There's really no downside at all to signing Peyton Manning, if you can sign him. And unlike the Colts, the Dolphins would have a backup plan in place, whether it's Matt Moore or a high draft pick. (Not to mention a much more talented team all-around)
Haven't seen where they've said that, however, this is the time of year you have to believe only half of what you hear anyway as it pertains to personnel moves. They have other needs, particularly Jermichael Finley...that may require the tag. However, they may be able to re-new his contract before the tag dates... They have very little compensation invested in him but 4 yrs of grooming invested in him. The last guy they groomed for 4 yrs turned out pretty good for them. I'm not convinced it's harder for them and if they do franchise him, they won't have to pay anything until the season starts. By that time, wherever he's going to be should be settled...they do a sign and trade, he signs with another team and off they go their separate ways, no money exchanged and they have $62M in cap space to use. They will however, have to record that money on their cap books until they move him. He'll be a hot enough prospect that they'll get some sort of compensation for him...before the draft... They may have no qualms about letting him go and may very well be excited for him, but they'll try to get some sort of compensation for him. Look, it may end up that they simply can't tag him and have to make a decision to let him go. It may be that he wants to come here with Philbin and has let them know and it's just a formality for us. It may be that he will go to whoever pays him the most. We don't really know. I just don't expect to get him for nothing but money. If JP feels he's ready to take the next step, and GB releases him, he!! yea...pay him Kolb money and go with it. I'm just not convinced things will fall into place that easily... On top of that we aren't and won't be the only team out there courting the guy (Seattle, Arizona, Cleveland, Washington, Jests, Jax and Tenn to name a few). We may have an advantage with JP, but can we really count on that ??
Since they have all that cap space, what would it say if they decided not to use it to get some compensation for him ??
I honestly don't think Green Bay will try to get any compensation for Flynn. It's free agency. That's what happens. They could always get a 7th rounder as a compensatory pick for him, and given estimates on how much he'll sign for, probably will.
In this pussified day and age, if Manning clears the medical hurdles, he will be healthy enough to play. Unless you have a problem making the play offs for the next 3 seasons, and a punchers shot at a Super Bowl, you do everything in your power to get him here. Every penny Ross can give, and throw in some mid town real estate. Whatever it takes. You get Manning here.
People act like Peyton is 60 years old. He is just one year older than Tom Brady, who is going to the super bowl (and suffered a nasty injury in 2008). And let's not forget Brett Favre went to the NFC Championship at 40, even though he was practically immobile.
Yeah, he doesn't need money, so if he plays he must know his body can take it. He won't risk becoming crippled when he already has a super bowl ring and can just make millions of dollars doing commercials and TV. He'll just retire if he doesn't improve.
THIS. And if Cleveland doesnt take him, im thinking Washington will make the move to take RGIII. As a matter of fact, in my 1.0 Mock Draft, i have Washington taking him.
Leave Manning alone. He is damaged goods. Get a fit and healthy QB. Flynn looks a good prospect! I like my QB's to be good scramblers. If there's nowt on and a huge gap to run into then GO FOR IT ! Yessireee. Flynn will do for me.
Right on Larry!!! Pro Football Focus graded Moore as the 9th best QB in 2011. Give him another good WR and a better right side of the OL, and no telling how well he can do.
Perhaps on this one instance, Ireland would probably defer to Philbin on whether or not to pursue Flynn, and if so, they should present GB a silent bid, and if anyone asks, deny it. If nobody knows we have a bid in, and think were avoiding him, they'll look elsewhere, and we'll pick em up on the cheap. We could hit next season at full sprint, running Moore and Flynn respectively.
If we sign Manning, I don't think there's any question that Tannehill should be a top target for us. The guy is very talented, but needs some time to develop. He gets that time if you take Manning.
That is my dream scenario. I think Tannehill has tremendous upside and sitting behind Peyton surely won't hurt! Man, I really hope we take Tannehill. Even if it has to be in the first round, I don't care. Just get him.
