The Bengals consider him to the the leading "in-house" candidate to replace Mike Zimmer as DC if he gets a HC job, if that means anything.

Heres what I would like to know....

Do you think Zimmer's aggressiveness will rub off on Doyle? Philbin said we will be a high tempo aggressive ball team in all three phases of the game. What is interesting...is he says this...while saying we will be a team that excels at the fundamentals, one of the best tackling teams in the NFL, and one of the best pursuing teams. I think, when some hear a coach say fundamentals, they start thinking conservative, but to be honest....if you are really really good in the fundamentals, more often then not, you are going to win a high percentage of your one on one matchups.

With a 4/3 defense...you will not have to see exotic blitz schemes as much to be aggressive. Our CB's will need to be able to play aggressive man to man.....ala Madison and Surtain....

Excelling at fundamentals and being conservative are two completely different things. Defensively, if you look at some of the league's top tier defenses the one thing they excel at is the fundamental of basic tackling. Defensive players anymore really don't know how to tackle, they lower their shoulder and try to hit the offensive player with the ball to knock him down. This is why I despise Lawrence Taylor. He was one of a kind in his day but his style of defensive play today translates mostly in to missed tackles.
