Green Bay is going to know how we feel about Flynn, because Philbin knows how he feels about Flynn. Theres no need to keep it secret from then, just like theres no reason for us to show our interest one way or the other.

    My prediction:

Irish goes after Manning. ****s it up. Too late for Flynn. Gets outbid trading up for RGIII. Stuck with Matt Moore. We go 5-11 next season.

P.S. I really hope to be wrong.

The Colts new coach is a defensive coordinator. Not a biggie, but maybe yet another minor sign that Manning will not be a Colt.

I would normally agree with the smokescreen idea....but I do find it hard to believe Ross won't want Manning if he hits FA and passes his physicals and all that. Matt Flynn will not put people into the seats unless the Dolphins make the playoffs and will still be viewed upon as a bigger gamble, regardless of how people feel about Peyton's injury. Peyton Manning is one of the biggest stars of all time, and if Ross can get that, you know he would want it. Tons of attention and hype, a sold out stadium with people actually in their seats, and realistic super bowl talk.

The Dolphins would be in the spotlight in general every week, but especially when they play the Patriots/Brady twice and when they play in Indianapolis. I'm pretty sure Ross gets a boner just thinking about it.

    Probably b/c the article says:

People who have this procedure don't notice any loss of movement, and most go back to regular work within five to 10 days.

He had surgery in May, but the nerve did not regenerate. This was followed by the fusion in September. In December he released a statement saying the fusion was fully healed. Now we're at the end of January and Manning is still saying he's not sure he can play in 2012. You don't have to be a math major to figure out that it has taken more than 10 days and we still have no timetable on his recovery.

There is no way the Colts pay that roster bonus, whether they have a shot at trading Manning or not. It would be too big a bite on their cap and they still have Reggie Wayne hanging out there as a FA. No, they will cut him before the roster bonus comes due.
Question is, is he healthy enough to play? I personally wouldn't sign him unless it was an incentive-based contract. If he gets hurt, we owe him zilch.

Flynn had one great game, if Philbin doesn't think he is a franchise QB why on Earth would we go after him? Also your logic is terribly flawed. You realize Manning is still a Colt as well?

As much as I'd love for Manning to be on this team... I just dont think the risk is worth it. At least with the Culpepper/Brees deals back a few years ago, you knew these guys were going to be ok, if given the time to heal. With Manning... you just dont know. Hell I head an interview on Sirius today from Bill Polian... he said there's no way he should be playing again. I just don't believe he's going to be healthy enough to spend all that cash, and whatever we have to compensate Indy in a trade if that's how it goes down. It's not a risk I'd like to take, for 3 or 4 years. Unless we draft someone early too, to sit behind and learn from the best. I dont see that happening though.

Knowing Ross... he'll give up whatever it takes, because he knows its going to put people in the seats at Sun Life, and its going to put cash in his bank account shortly thereafter, regardless of how healthy Manning may, or may not be.

Like I said... would love to have Manning... just have a really really really bad feeling about his health and what we're going to get out of him, compared to what we'll have to give up to get him...

If there's ever been tension between Irish and Ross, it wouldn't surprise me if their interest's collide here.
Claiming Peyton, could temper many of the irritating thorns that Ross had dealt with since he purchased this team, and Ireland along with it.
Manning could be the prize that wins him acceptance from this frigid fandom, and finally turns incessant ridicule, into joyous reverence. If healthy, Manning could buffer the rocky transition of coaching staffs, and allow Philbin's inaugural season some breathing room, that this short fused, highly cynical audience may most likely, otherwise be inclined to concede.
Ireland otoh is a product of Parcellian teachings, and things such as expensive, pre-owned QB relief valves, tend to be rare on the philosophical hardware list.

Has anyone considered that Manning has said he's not sure if he will be able to play simply for the fact he's worried about taking that first solid hit even though he may be 100% healthy?

Ray Lucas < Culpepper (As a Phin) < AJ Feely < Joey Harrington < Chad Henne < Jay Fielder < Matt Moore < Chad Pennington

Pennington being at the top simply because we made the playoffs. In reality I'd say Moore has the potential to be a better more game changing QB. Even if you don't agree with the list isn't it sick all these names are even on it?

If Manning is healthy you do it IMO if he's not you don't. Simple as that.

I think the loser paradox would be that the Dolphins have been burned repeatedly by listening to doctors, now we've got a Montana ala the KC years knocking at the door but he'll probably get paralyzed if he comes back.

  16. If Manning wants to come to Miami and he is cleared to play, pay him whatever his market price is and bring him here. Its really up to Peyton if he wants to play here and he very well may be interested in coming here. Him and Miami are a good fit for each other. I would consider making Reggie Wayne an offer too. That would pretty much fix the offense for next season and we could focus on pass rushers and safty's in the draft. IMO it's a no brainer and you take the chance. Adding Peyton and Reggie along with adding talent to an already solid defense puts the Dolphins in postion to make a run at the Lombardi.

I am all for signing Manning to the coaching staff as a QB coach or OC. But as a player he is just too much of a risk IMHO.

Reggie Wayne would be good if that's a deal they make with Manning, but if he doesn't care then it might be better to go for an O-Lineman in free agency. I feel Bess can get to 1000 yards or close to it with a top QB.

As long as there's no/minimum draft pick compensation, it is a no brainer. There's no risk whatsoever since his contract would certainly have an out clause for the team. Obviously I'd rather have Flynn if Philbin feels he's franchise QB material, but Peyton, with someone like Ryan Tannehill being developed to be his successor, is intriguing as well.

Completely agree. If the Colts do indeed retain him only to trade him, not only are we going to have to shell out big bucks for a short term, fragile QB, but we're going to have to shell out valuable draft picks to acquire him. To hell with that. I'd rather find a long term answer at QB than to mortgage our future on damaged goods for 1-3 years. Doesn't make sense at all. In fact, I'd prefer we sign Flynn and be done with it. If he doesn't beat out Matt Moore (which I think he would), then we draft a QB next year. We have to find a franchise QB. And damaged goods - a guy who is aging and on his last leg - is not, to me, a franchise QB. I loved the way Manning played in his career. I love his intelligence and his field presence. But Those two things do not matter if you are physically unable to perform at a high level. And if I get Manning, I want Manning at 100%. Not 75. That's settling. I want this team to be settled at QB for a decade. Not for a year or two.

I'll pose this question: Would you guys rather go to a Super Bowl followed by several sub .500 seasons OR multiple 10-11 win seasons and no Super Bowl appearance?

If you like the first option better, you go after Manning, because he gives you that shot.

I'm so torn on this. If you can the usual Peyton and get him healthy, it's a no brainer. On the other hand, it's a risky injury and he may never be the same.

If Manning sells season tickets, he will be a Redskin. Snyder is far more about that than Ross. He had to tear down part of his stadium last year. He's not going to take that sitting down.

This is true. But look at what Matt Moore did in 2009 and then what he did when he was handed the keys in 2010. I'm not saying history is guaranteed to repeat itself, just that it's no guarantee that Matt Moore plays as well as he did this year.

Oh, and btw, on the subject of Peyton Manning - yeah it would be risky. Do you think the Saints regret taking an injury risk on Drew Brees? Do we want to make the same mistake twice?

And for everyone saying he could take one hit and be done. Well, what if that happens? Is it the end of the world? We pick up the pieces and go after a new QB the next season. I'm betting Manning would be agreeable to a contract that wouldn't KILL a team if he were to suffer a serious injury to the neck and not be able to play another snap.

It's time for this team to take a risk on a QB. What the **** has playing it safe gotten us?

How many of those players were at least 36 years old? From what I've read Manning's nerve damage hinders his ability to control the tricept on his throwing arm more so than the neck injury itself. Having Manning would be pretty cool but he's already missed a year and still has no idea if he'll be able to play at all. Montana missed a year and played pretty well for his 2 in KC.

    Color me not very optimistic.

Here are my problems with this....

    1. He has to learn a new offense. This isn't like he is going into a system he is familiar with and he will be learning new terminology. He is going to be learning a whole different system, different players, and different terminology.
    2. He is not going to be calling his own plays. Why? See #1. In Indy he was the OC during the game. He called his own plays, he set his audibles, and he was the playbook. In Miami he will have to rely on an OC. He will have the plays fed to him and he will have to adjust to that style of gameplay.
    3. What QB's have spent over 10 years in a place and had HUGE success somewhere else? Montana didn't deliver the glory to KC. Farve didn't bring a championship to the Vikings or Jets. Tons of QB's bounce around and some might luck into a title (Dilfer), but the great ones have never done it on another stage.
    4. How many years does he have left? 3? So again we are left holding the bag in a couple of years looking for a franchise QB.
    5. Neck injuries aren't anything to mess with. He already couldn't run, now he might even be less mobile than before. Not good.

    Positive...
Hey, he might be as good as before.

The negatives out weight the positive. I will buy in and support the decision if he comes here, but I am not sold on it right now.
