A different system? I'll venture a guess that Manning already understands all of the systems. That's just silly. Favre got the MIN to the NFC championship game his 1st year there. Montana was 17-8 with KC. If Ireland leaves this years draft without Foles, Weeden or Tannehill it won't be Manning's fault. Valid point.
I agree; however, out of respect, you should capitalize "Sick". He deserves nothing less IMVHO. Carry on.
That's the problem. It carries a high failure rate at this point and the franchise doesn't need another high profile disaster. That said, if he is truly healthy, it's awful hard to turn that down. Even if he doesn't come back at 100% like Montana, he can make the team a contender. He would also benefit from playing on a team with a better defense and not one that needs a lead to play well. At this point I would prefer not to go after him, but it is intriguing
I hope we get him. Our new Head Coach looks like Goofy. Manning could run the team, like when he took the Colts to the Superbowl and Caldwell collected checks as a passenger.
I think Manning would have a ton of input in gameplanning the offensive play selection and in choosing plays at the line. This is Miami, of course, so we will make indirect inquiries about him that will leak to the media, we will deny them, then we will admit them, then he will rebuff us, then we will say we never wanted him, draft Brock Osweiler in the second round and say he way our choice all along and has the potential to be the next Manning. Though it'd be nicer if Peyton showed up and we watched him beat Tom Brady for us twice a year.
There really isn't any reason to not go after Manning if he's a UFA. If we didn't get him we would draft a Qb and have Moore starting, we can pick up Manning and have the new staff and Ireland pick his successor in this draft with no pressure to play him. We could take our time and develop the Qb around a winning program that has Manning as the Qb. If its only money then it isn't a huge risk, no reason not to give it a try. Whats the worst case scenario? Manning can't play and Moore has to play with a rookie developing behind him? Not a big deal if it doesn't work out but it could mean putting this franchise back on the map and possibly winning a Superbowl. Huge reward vs. risk that is worth it IMHO.
You could give our new head coach a chance before writing him off because of his looks... just ridiculous.
Do we think it will be that difficult to access his health? Obviously I'm no doctor. So I can't guess what we should expect from him physically or how much risk is involved once he starts playing again. But I can't imagine it will be that difficult to give him a workout and compare what he does to what he has done his entire career. He has great mechanics and works hard. If you don't see what we saw last year you either pass or offer a moderate sum of money hoping he will improve. I don't see a big risk assuming he becomes a free agent. Even if he isn't quite the player he was physically and we can't quite get the same production that he gave his team for the past few years I would bet that he still gives you as much as Moore and Henne. If his health checks out then you potentially have a very good qb. If I'm wrong and he just can't play anymore you cut him and move on.
realistically the Colts either have to trade him between now and March, which would cost the trade partner 28 mil plus draft picks to the Colts or they will release him free n clear. No team is going to make to make that kind of investment on an injury ridden QB. Once he is released he will probably sign for around 12 mil guaranteed. That is a reasonable price tag to put on him and its not so expensive that a team in need of a QB would not be willing to risk it on him. The real question is who he wants to play for, if anyone, because he will have his choice of 1/2 the teams or more to go play for.
Tada!!!! Just beat me to it. IF, IF Manning is 100% fit and all the other bits fall into place, we've got to make it worth his while to come here. We've got to put together a decent offense to give him protection and get some receivers out there.
If not for his neck problem, this would be a no brainer. Unfortunately with his age and the fact he is coming off a very serious injury, I just don't see the Dolphins giving up any picks for Manning. If they can get him in free agency and he is cleared to play, it would certainly be worth the risk. If on the other hand, the Colts give him his bonus in March and then try to trade him for a first round draft pick, the Dolphins should just walk away from that deal.
We've already put together a decent offense. The words Brandon Marshall, Jake Long, Reggie Bush, and Mike Pouncey are enough to get just about any QB's attention. Bess & Hartline are 2 savvy, heady receivers who would mesh well with Manning. Clay fits the mold of athletic TE/Hback that Peyton seems to like. Daniel Thomas is better than anything he's had in Indy in a few years IMO. Gates is developing at WR. With Philibin being an Oline guy, there's optimism that last year's group might be noticeably better without any additions and with Jerry possibly moving to RT. There's definitely room for improvement on offense via FA and the draft, but I don't see it currently as a group that would discourage Manning.
Only risk would be if cap room were tied up with a lot of guaranteed money and then he couldn't play or play close to the level of prior to the injury.
I'm glad you opted to include Bess in there. Shocking player IMO, goes down like, well I'm sure you know the mataphor. He should be allowed to leave with immediate effect. Bush? Nope. Sorry not good enough either..yet. Is showing promise tho. Hartline? Like this fella alot. The ball sticks in his hands when thrown to him. Not afraid to go where he will get hit. Clay? Very promising !!
Ya I agree. There is plenty for Peyton to be excited about here. IMO, the decision will be more about whether Miami thinks Peyton is a good fit (with his injury and looming debate about franchise QB through draft), rather than Peyton deciding about Miami.
So you think if Manning's agent contacted the Dolphins that there is a chance that they would not make some kind of offer? You really believe that?
I'd love to hear a surgeon's take on Manning's injury. I just have a very hard time believing he'll ever play again. That being said my QB preference would be: 1) Healthy Peyton Manning 2) Trade up to acquire the #2 pick in the draft 3) Matt Flynn
I know right. All I ask for is 1 measly capital letter, which is still selling you short by like 3 capitals. Members could really take it a step further and go all-in with the capital "ICK" if they're skilled at working the shift button and/or caps lock. It's trying times like these that we have to stick together. I got your back, buddy.
Is that really hard to believe? If Peyton was here Reggie Wayne coming to Miami is farfetched? He played college ball here. Peyton and he combined to be one of the most dynamic duos ever. They are cleaning house in Indy. Makes sense to me.
Regarding Bush, you're not thinking like a QB. Reggie's one of, if not the, best receiving back in the NFL. His presence opens up opportunities around the field that a QB like Manning could greatly capitalize on. Bess hasn't been productive as of late, but his combination of route running ability, hands, COD ability, and football smarts would make him one of the top slot WRs when paired with Manning's accuracy & intelligence. People like to bash Henne, but he was outstanding with Bess in the 10 yard & less game and moving the chains when utilized properly together. Manning & Bess would lead the NFL in 3rd down conversions. Hartline is in a similar mold to Austin Collie, so that's a plus for Manning. I'd consider an attempted trade back for Kendall Wright to be Peyton's Marvin Harrison...... or hope Dwayne Allen is there in the 2nd round to become Peyton's Dallas Clark.
"My dream scenario" -Sign Peyton Manning -Trade down to the teens and get another 2nd rounder -Draft Alshon Jeffery or Malcolm Floyd in the mid-first -Draft Weeden in the 2nd and a pass rusher -??? -Profit
Ha well I cleared it up for you. And maybe you're just putting on a show here while showing your true colors on a Patriots fanboard?
I hope someday you guys realize life is way too short to be blasting each other on a message board. We all love this team, if you don't agree on something who gives a crap. Is it so important that we need to get heated about it? Do we really need to muddy up our message board and lives with this BS. If you want to trash each other do it through PM no-one here wants to F'ing see it.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/foot...012-01-26/irsay-manning-politician/52807460/1 Ouch...Peyton put the Colts on the map, and could be headed for a bitter divorce. If I were him I'd want to play somewhere else and light it up.

Just heard Mort on NFL32 say that if Payton can play it will be for the Redskin or the Dolphins. Big if for sure, but not really as far fetched as you're making it out to be.
Those guys are completely speculating. No one knows any of that. Don't pretend Mort has a crystal ball. It is just his opinion.
