Just Watched the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(US version) last night really enjoyed it. 3.5/5
It was confusing on some parts and hard to follow with all the accents. But liked how they explained it all at the end.

Maybe i'll rent the other 2 now instead of waiting for the US version to come out

Does this have to be new movies? I watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure last night. For some reason it is nowhere NEAR as good now as it was 20 years ago. Maybe I should have "enhanced" prior

Yeah, enhanced for sure, lol. A movie like that these days would mos def be PG-13 or R. It did seem a lot funnier when I was in 10th grade.

Watched 'Cowboys & Aliens' last night. One of those movies that wasn't terrible, and wasn't awesome, but entertaining enough to keep me occupied on a Saturday night without feeling like I wasted time. The contrast of a western movie and a science fiction movie was interesting. Worth checking out if you have nothing to do.

Finally got around to watching MoneyBall.....enjoyed it (even with the small changes from the actual book)....guess Pitt is getting best actor recognition from it.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Surprising. Really enjoyed it. I've seen them all...even the one where a school bus is used as a machine of war lol. This film is arguably as good as the first one, mostly because of the use of special effects. They let you see the mind of Caesar.

Highly recommended and you don't need to see the previous movies to understand it. This is more of a reimagining than a sequel

    Just saw two great movies.

The first was RED CLIFF [IMG]

Over 4 hours long and I could have watched another 4 hours.....it was that good. One of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Epic war movie set in China 200 AD. The cinematography, the music score, the battle scenes (both land and sea) are epic, simply epic. The acting is great. A must see. Buy the DVD. It's a movie you'll want to watch again

The second movie I saw was Kurosawa's Ikiru [IMG] which is about as night and day from Red Cliff as possible. About an old bureaucrat in Japan who finds out he has cancer and decides to achieve one lasting legacy before he dies....build a park for children. As boring as that sounds, it's one of the most interesting movies I have ever seen and speaks to Kurosawa's brilliance as a director in that you become captivated with the person and his last days. Brilliant story telling techniques are used by Kurosawa in this movie. Great great movie

I've had Red Cliff for so long now, and I've yet to watch it. I know it's great, I just haven't popped it in yet.

Also, never suggest someone get the DVD unless there isn't a HD alternative. :tongue2:

Recently saw The Debt, Hanna and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on my home system. I'd recommend all three. I really enjoyed Hanna because I went in with low expectations and was blown away. The Debt was good. And TTSS I saw last night, very good. Wonderful acting. Gary Oldman is his usual brilliant self.

Ok, just watched Red Cliff yesterday (since the NFL games started late) and it was freaking awesome. It didn't seem drawn out or anything, despite it being over 4 hours long. I thought all the choices for the main cast were really good, and the fighting scenes (large and small scale) were very well done. Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yu played off each other extremely well.

I have a limited amount of knowledge about the Three Kingdoms (Wu, Wei, and Shu) but thanks to the Dynasty Warriors games (and Kessen) I had pre-existing ideas of what each person should look like and how they should act (the games have a surprisingly large historical database on each person), and I thought it was all pretty spot on.

Now I need to see when I can get my hands on 1911.

Edit: Takeshi Kaneshiro who played Zhuge Liang is also Samanosuke from Onimusha = MIND BLOWN.
I don't feel as bad now for thinking he was an attractive man.

Just to add to the endorsements for Red Cliff, I saw it about a year ago when I first noticed it on Netflix and I concur that it was a great movie. It's well worth watching for anybody who is worried about the length.

Watched 'Hostel 3' last night. Starts out in Vegas like 'The Hangover' but ends up badly. It was meh, because Eli Roth had nothing to do with it (he created the franchise). Ending was pretty stupid.

13 - I thought it was pretty good, but it certainly wasn't what I expected going in (not that there's anything wrong with that). Worst part was that you could kind of predict how it'd end.

I saw "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead", a documentary about an out of shape Austrailian trying to heal himself by going on a 60 day juice diet. It'll make you want to go buy a juicer (I know I am). The results were astonishing...

He basically saves this truck driver's life.

A truck driver from Winslow, AZ. He not only loses weight but really increases the quality of his life. Very well done documentary, flows nicely and draws you in...

Apparently the key to the juicer diet is that it condenses a ton of micronutrients that would normally take you forever to consume. If you're in midlife and are serious about changing your life for the better, it's a must see.

I watched 'The Thing' earlier. It's the prequel to the 1982 version with Kurt Russell. If you remember the '82 movie, when the Americans go to the Norwegian camp and find it destroyed, this one explains how that happened. They paid very close attention to details of the Norwegian footage from the '82 movie when they filmed this one, so it explained what you saw in the '82 version. Being a big fan of the previous movie, I really liked this one.

Recently saw these due to free HBO/Showtime weekends:

Dinner with Schmucks: It was funny, but given Steve Carell, I expected it to be funnier.

Green Hornet: Couldn't stay awake, tried watching it twice on two different nights. Not good. Finally gave up on it rather than fall asleep for the third time.

I've got 7 more than I need to get to :wink2:

    Movie: 50/50

I give it 5/5 for quality

I give it 0/5 for the pain it gave me. I felt like I was looking in the mirror for the majority of the movie. Its been affecting me for the past two days. Never had cancer but I have had serious surgery and the relationship withbmy mother is about the same. In a way I wish I never saw it. It has opened a can of worms
