    That makes no sense.
I understand you are are anti-Peyton, but this makes it worth the risk.
Hell, if this report is true, there is no risk. Zero.

    Like who?
Who are we gonna miss out on?
    Flynn? Tannehill?
Neither are anywhere near sure things.
Besides, if this report is true we can sign Peyton and Flynn, or sign Peyton and draft Tannehill.

I'm just so sick of watching other teams in the Super Bowl. I hope they take the chance on Manning and I hope it pays off. I cannot trust Matt Flynn.

Neither is a QB coming off a nerve injury where the nerve has not regenerated. And there's no way you can sign Manning and Flynn. You could sign Manning and Tannehill.

Perfect scenario IMO. Or Manning and Osweiler, Foles, Cousin, Wilson, whoever you want to draft and let Manning groom for 3 years.
I have to give the FO the benefit of the doubt and believe they won't sign Manning if he doesn't check out fine.

I keep hearing that, but the fact is that you most likely have to make the decision long before he'll check out fine. Manning is far and away the longest shot. You only take the gamble if you already decided that Flynn isn't your guy and that you don't want Weedon and that you're fine with going with Moore and waiting for Tannehill b/c that is the most likely outcome.

    I say go for it.

Yes it's a huge gamble but this franchise needs a legitimate ray of hope at qb more than ever. I've now seen two giants teams win super bowls and I don't think they wre even one of the top three teams in the league either time. But they have a qb, and they make the most of their chances.

In the end any choice that Miami makes at QB will be a risk. It's a matter of which risk makes the most sense. A rookie QB will be a complete risk (if he is not named Andrew Luck and even he isn't a guaranteed thing), Flynn has some good play on his resume but is still largely unproven, and then you have a 36 year old QB with nerve damage issues. None are ideal situations but I can't see passing up a Top 5 all-time QB if he is cleared to play. Especially when you can still draft a QB in the later rounds and let him learn under one of the brightest minds the NFL has ever seen. Best case scenario you get 2-3 good years with a young groomed QB waiting to take over and worst case scenario he snaps his neck on the first play then it's back to square one.

It's all going to come down to whether or not Miami thinks they can find the long term future QB in the draft, which will open up the Manning possibility, or if they think Flynn is the real deal. Hopefully, for once, Miami makes the right choice (whatever that may be).

If Manning shows up, passes his physical, and impresses the coaching staff, I'm all for it.
But if the nerve has not regenerated to the point, Manning can throw the ball with relative accuracy when he comes available,
I don't want to see any of our options compromised, or even jeopardized, as a result of having to wait, for a physically incapacitated QB, to "hopefully" recover.

So are you saying that you've dropped the requirement that he check out fine since that almost assuredly can't happen before we have to decide on Flynn? Are you basically saying you are willing to sign Manning and pass on Flynn and hope Manning heals eventually?

If we sign Flynn, we do so under Philbin's blessing, and will have a responsible neck to place on the guillotine. The "risk" factor is at least buffered, to a poorly made decision.

Not to suggest anyone will be any happier, but they'll at least take consolation in busting out the pitchforks.

Absolutely. If Manning were signed by Miami I doubt I'd sleep between now and September. Those tickets for the Dolphins @ Colts are going to cost me a fortune if Manning does sign with Miami.

I hope you guys know he's coming to New York. He wants to play for a contender and not a pretender. He has a great chance of winning with the Jets.

I can appreciate some good sarcasm.

Oh wait your serious? :sidelol: Who would want to deal with that dysfunctional locker room that is publicly known, play for a coach who spots his mouth but can't back it up at all. Peyton has to much class for the Jets.

Hahaha right play in the same city as his brother? Won't happen.. Wide reciever core? Fins easily... Offensive line? With a healthy mangold it's close. Defense? We are a little younger and not much worse... Oh and we don't have a coach that predicts himself winning the Super Bowl every year... 0-3 on that card...

So you're saying he would turn down guaranteed money just to prove a point? That doesn't make sense. The only thing that would make sense is him taking no guaranteed money, because nobody was willing to offer any. If no team is willing to do that, then I would suspect his health determined such.

Sure, but before you decide to take the risk, you need to determine how great of a risk it is. What exactly are the chances that Manning makes it back to 30%? 50%? 80%?

If you were told there is a 10% chance that Manning makes it back to 80% of his arm strength, would you sign him?

Or, he could just be putting it out there to appear magnanimous when he and Tom Condon know full well that he will get guaranteed money from somebody. There are at least 3 teams that will be in the bidding, somebody is going to offer a nice guarantee. And even under Peyton's own scenario, the first payment would be a roster bonus, which he is almost 100% certain to collect as no team that signs him is going to cut him prior to the season.

So really, even if Peyton Manning believes he has only a 1% shot at nerve-regeneration, its in his best financial interest to pretend otherwise?

Yes because that 8-8 record is so much better than our 6-10 record. By the way, Manning is smart enough to know any team can be turned around quickly. Look at the 49ers, they didn't have a winning season since 2002 and went to OT in the NFC Championship game.

And I'm sure he loves all the Jets locker room drama. And their defensive minded coach and conservative Tony Sparano running the offense.

No, as a public persona with a pristine image he doesn't want to appear greedy by demanding huge sums of money after sitting out the year with uncertain health moving forward.

So his team floats that he is willing to take an incentive laden deal with the reasonably good knowledge that with multiple teams bidding, he can probably get a decent guarantee and still maitain his pristine image.

Or perhaps he truly is confident enough in his recovery. Either way is reasonable

Peyton Manning is set for life and will always have an income. He doesn't need the guaranteed money.

He probably just wants to prove he can still play and try to go out on top.
