Ricky was special and fun to watch despite him quitting on the team at one point. A lot of great memories watching him on the field and I wish him the best moving forward in a life after football.
I'd say it's close between Ricky and Larry Csonka as far as second all time best, but like you, watching Ricky run during the 2002 season was a thing of beauty!!
Gotta throw my 2-cents in the (what looks to be) fairwell ricky thread. Thanks for all the awesome runs.. definitely in my top 3 fav players of all time. One of the greatest that coulda been greater. Hope you have a good retirement life. run ricky run! &happy 420
Im sorry but ricky came back for his family and money remember the 20 mil he owed? he was a great athlete and talent but he never became a true teammate till the end. IMO he always came back for security for his family (money) nothing wrong with that but it is what it is. The guy became what he wanted for himself and how he thought he should be, but not a teammate until he saw his legacy falter. it was ricky first team second any talk of Dolphins honor ring is crazy. jmo note i love ricky williams but hes not a Dolphin great!
I wonder if RW retires as a Dolphin? You know that sign the $1.00 contract and the retirement ceremony? His best times and his worst times were as a Dolphin. Except for his hiccups he could have been one of the all time greats, he certainly had the greatest season in the history of the Dolphins.
True but you can also blame a ******** coach who ran the guy into the turf. Not that it is a surprise but it shows how the NFL uses guys up with no regard. With all the PI's they have on staff they didn't know Ricky was toking and there was no indication of his disorder just that he was different? Sell that **** somewhere else.
I thought M+M were *******s. Ricky did not give them the standard "one game at a time, miss the guys in the locker room" speech, and they acted like he was a freak. Ricky is smarter than 98% of the other players in the NFL, to expect him to have a definete plan for the rest of his life 2 days after retirement is ludicrous. Let the the man travel and study...it is after all his life.
Still my favorite Dolphin ever, that 2002 season took my fandom an extra level. Only jersey I have ever owned. Also the one thing that saddens me about this open passing game thing that the NFL has been favoring, is that we might never see a guy dominate in the way Ricky did that season. That string of 200 yard games (including that amazing Chicago game) is one of my favorite moments as a fan. Also always loved that his name is Errick... Gonna miss the dude.
I agree. They were acting like Ricky was handicapped or something. The guys a free spirit who lives his life like HE wants. M&M were pissing me off.
Here's another interesting interview from the Sid Rosenberg show. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...2/02/why-ricky-williams-abruptly-retired.html
