Not getting Brees was an obvious mistake, but, picking up a previously injured Daunte Culpepper and previously injured Trent Green were also mistakes. Not saying Green or Culpepper are anywhere close to the caliber of Peyton Manning but they were both very good franchise quarterbacks at a point in their careers. Manning may make a full recovery but its still something that you think about picking up a recovering quarterback after he is released by his team he has spent his entire career with.
I am indifferent about the idea but Manning would be a smart decision if he shows signs of recovery and he could be signed to a reasonable contract. I am still hoping they draft the best Quarterback available to hedge their bets in that event. The question at Quarterback has to be answered sooner rather than later.

Peyton is going to have to show he can still play before anybody signs him....if he shows that....he is still top 3 QB in the league....you get that if you can.

Basically, I agree with the article & both responses to the article
We have the HeadCoach & now we need the franchise QB!

...just trying to balance the equation on Peyton.

he is the ProvenBull that could potentially answer very quickly the riddle of the the SuperBowl for Miami

I like his chances of making a come-back

Maybe his neck issues have nothing at all to do with "being hit by defenders" while playing football? What many people don't know is that Peyton and Eli have an older brother named Cooper Manning who was just as good a QB as they were. Cooper was told when he was at Ole Miss that he had "spinal stenosis".....a narrowing of the spinal canal, and he decided to give up football. You have to wonder whether these neck issues run in the family?

neck issues can run in the family. my father and I both have similar issues, although my brother seems to be free of them.

Manning is not worth it IMO. I'd rather take my chance that Flynn, in Philbin's system, can turn out to be our QB of the future.

if you took the time to read the article, I think it was fair & balanced unlike most of what has been in print recently

I like his chances of making a come-back. we'll know soon enough.

So much speculation it's just a gamble if he is able to return to his old form but if Miami does not want him someone will.I think he plays this year and wheather its for the phins or not I hope he is able to go back and do what he loves(unless it's with the Jets!).

Green's suffered another concussion, effectively ending his career 4 games into the season here. The issues with concussions weren't as known as they are today. It was more unfortunate than a bad choice....but the Brees/CPep thing has been hashed out over and over...the bottom line is that while it turned out to be a bad move since CPeps knee never recovered, it was more of a risk to take a QB, who's arm wasn't the strongest to begin with, that had had a serious separation (3rd degree, I believe)...There was a lot more inherent risk in taking Brees...Obviously, it turned out for the better for NO, but making that decision over again not knowing the outcome, I'd do it again...

You could assign the same blame to the staff about Penny ?? He had a weak shoulder, multiple surgeries, etc. We got a year out of him before he was injured and ended his career...was that a bad decision too ??

The fact is that some of the moves we've made for QBs were more simply bad luck than bad decision making...however, any way you look at it, they've failed so far, since Danny...

He didn't have a problem until he got a contact injury and I'm sure doctors would have noticed a debilitating condition at least one of the three times.

the thing is ... his nerve regeneration CAN be medically tested and measured ... funny we don't see any articles on this. IF he had the appropriate tests initially ... or even now -- it could be measured again in 30 days, etc ... making it less of a crap shoot as to whether his nerves will regrow/regenerate or not.

it is very likely (almost guaranteed) that if his nerves come back -- his arm strength will as well, but you can't measure his progress by his 'arm strength'; it must be measured by nerve growth.

I'd love to have a healthy Payton Manning under center for the Dolphins. I just don't see where he has made enough progress to think it will be an option this year. Free agency starts in March and the draft is in April. Betting your season on Manning being 100% by the start of the season is a long shot at best.

Not only that, King, but it's taken 13 yrs of pro ball plus his college and HS ball before it came out as an issue ?? There is likely some sort of DNA issues that worked against the Mannings, however, that has not been brought out publicly before this by either side of this thing...so I don't see it as an issue with Peyton, right now.

What is the issue is that Manning obviously isn't where he wants to be yet and he or the drs. can't tell when he will be... That's what we know, because if he knew he were not going to be able to regenerate the nerves, he'd have retired by now. If he was back to 'normal', then we'd know that now also...

Ho hum, the wait and see of this is killing fans all over, including Fins fans...

It probably has been tested, Phinanalyst. I'm sure when the time comes, he'll reveal that stuff, but it's just not necessary now, particularly since he's not ready to make a declaration to either retire or play on...

Regardless, Peyton will only be our QB of the present.

  20. From how things sound this injury is either he gets feeling back or he dosnt. It sounds more black and white then it does grey. It will be up to Peyton to shw everyone the nerves are regenerated. Until he can demnstrate that has healed any offers made to him would be premature.

Once he gets past that hurdle if he does then he has to begin getting his arm strength back. Plus wherever he goes, he will be learning a new offense and developing chemistry with new team mates.

I think if he does attempt a comeback, whoever takes a risk on him should expect a slow start overall out of him. Dont forget also he has sat out an entire season already and that might also add into him having a flat start.

Im not opposed to seeing Peyton in a Dolphins uniform if all the signs are pointing toward him being able to return to his former self on the field but if it happens Im keeping my expetations tempered at least until I see him making money throws again.

You're right about the black and white thing, but the issue with us and anyone else that will be involved in potentially acquiring Manning is the timing of it all. He may get 90-95% of regeneration back, allowing him to strengthen the muscle, but when he gets it back is the $28M question... If that is early March, April, May, August, never ? That's the real question here...

That's the issue that teams like Miami, Wash, Cleveland, Seattle, Tenn, Jax, whoever need to weigh as to what they need to do going forward to assemble their team...
