Dish and Directv to carry the Sunday Ticket in 2012?

Today I was at the Denver's golf expo talking to a Directv rep. He was filling me in with some of the changes being made. Now, if you don't agree with me, then go check it out for yourself. I can't confirm this, but a Directv rep told me this.
Directv is going thru some changes and I asked him what they all are. I won't go into details of that, but he did tell me that the NFL will expand the Sunday Ticket to Dish customers this upcoming season. He told me that Directv has the rights, but not the exclusive rights to the Ticket. I asked him if is was only for the "Redzone", he said "no, it's for the entire package".
I haven't confirmed this, so don't anyone say I'm full of crap. I'm just relaying what a Directv, not Dish rep told me today.

If they were giving it to Dish they would probably give it to cable too. I think Directv still has the exclusive rights it paid handsomely for.

We didn't talk about it going cable, so I can't comment on that. This thing with Dish doesn't sound right, but the info I got today came from Directv. If it came from Dish, then I wouldnt have said a word. This info coming from Dish would be very fishy.

If anybody else at all could offer it that would be pretty big news. Maybe the competition would bring the price down from over $300.

I dont' think so. I thought DIrect TV extended their exclusive agreement to 2015 or 2016?
that's why I've had Direct TV since the first year it came out.

It's odd that a Directv rep would essentially be pimping Dish, true or not.

I think the OP was suggesting that it hasn't been announced yet... just that the changes were coming. I doubt that the Wikipedia would be updated unless an official announcement has been made.

I had the NFL ticket since 1998 I think when it first came out. It was $99. Kept it until this past season. When it went to $349....that was enough for me. I still streamed every game thanks to certain things being available!!!

I believe this may have legs because DirecTv lost tons of customers due to the price increase. They tried to get the numbers up by giving the package away for free provided you got their premier package. That didn't work as well as they planned. The NFL is about exposure and giving someone else an opportunity in addition would not surprise me. Kind of like the I Phone.

I would be surprised if this were actually true. Not doubting what you were told, I just believe the rep was wrong.

I've always liked DirecTV. Top of the heap IMO. But it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the price of the Ticket came down. It's pretty steep now.

DirecTV's continued rise in price makes them one of, if not the most, expensive TV option out there. Their premier package is at over $90. Ridiculous if you ask me for equipment I have to purchase to watch their programing that is "beamed" to my home.

If the NFL was smart they would get together with The NHL, NBA ,MLB, ESPN, etc and come up with a sports package that works using the very dishes already installed on millions of homes nation wide. Provide a "sports box" that we could purchase and eliminate the middle guy altogether. They could easily add a commercial free version that people would pay handsomely for

If any of you guys were/are paying full price for your NFL Sunday Ticket package you are essentially losing money. All you have to do is call them BEFORE the season starts, threaten to not sign up for it again, and they give you a credit off ($120 last season).

I just switched to Verizon Fios, I had had Directv for almost five years. Their prices did seem to be steadily going up. I'm getting just as many channels for cheaper now. I'm not sure what I'll do concerning the ticket. I could pay that outrageous price and stream it on PS3 but I don't know if I will. When I found out that I can get MLB extra innings on Fios it was a pretty easy decision. When Directv started giving new customers the ticket for nothing and wouldn't even cut me a break on it that kind of did it for me. I also didn't enjoy the fact that they wouldn't let me cancel it after the season had started.

Full disclosure....I had to pay an extra one-time charge of 25 bucks for the RedZone HD Channel.
So ST and RedZoneHD for 175 total.

There has to be zero truth to this, I believe this dude was yanking your chain. Back in 2009 Directtv and the Nfl signed a 15 year contract where only directtv has exclusive rights.
    http://www.satellitereviews.com/2009/03/24/directv-nfl-extend-sunday-ticket/
Commenting on the deal, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said:

“We are pleased to extend a partnership with DIRECTV that has complemented and supported our broadcast television packages for 15 years. We are looking forward to having the Red Zone channel on cable and other media platforms as well as showing NFL Sunday Ticket via broadband to the homes that cannot get satellite. This new content enhances our tradition of being the most pro-consumer, widely available sport on television.”

Monopolizing Sunday Ticket is 'pro-consumer'? That's hilarious. As much as I love football I wouldn't mind seeing the NFL knocked down a peg or two. They not only did this **** with television, remember how they sold their exclusive video game rights to EA Sports?

It wasn't a 15 year contract, 15 years is how long the NFL and DirectTV has had a broadcast partnership. The current contract only goes through 2014 (3 more seasons at most on the current deal).

I talked to both Directv and Dish tonight and both sides won't confirm or deny it. I think the Directv rep wasn't sure about his facts. I tend to believe that when Directv's contract is up, then Dish will step in and put in a bid. For now, and the next 3 season's, we'll be stuck with Directv.

yep and they are going the route of AT&T. Keep ruining their rep one customer at a time. Soon they will be begging for customers and cutting their prices because they will have no other choice. It's a shame they just don't get it. A 5 yr customer like yourself and they want you to subsidize the new guy by paying 300+. All the while every 6 months they keep raising their prices. I will never again be a customer. I was a directv customer for 15 yrs.

I didn't even threaten. I just said that was high and I may now have to think about trimming down my premium stuff like HBO or whatever. I paid $250 for ST at once had about $20 per month in credit (free HD, finallly; and $10 off Starz/Showtime) for 6 months. It's really not that bad.

DirecTV suits me fine. It is pricier, but is generally worth it. Almost everything is negotiable, the picture quality is good and you have plenty of space on your DVR.

They don't even have to do that. With the advent of smart TVs they can just stream the games via the internet, which is what I think the NFL is planning on doing once the current Direct TV contract is up.

I've been a DTV subscriber since we bought our house in '04 for the simple fact of the ST. I have grown to love DirecTV, but that's beside the point. I would like to think that when this current contract is up, they at least open it up to other delivery methods, including online. I'd be fine w/ purchasing it that way too. I do doubt, though, that online would ever be the only way, even three years from now. Put simply, I'm sure not even half of U.S. households will have their TVs wired up the the Internet by then - therefore, you would be eliminating a huge part of your potential customer base. Online has to be an option though, just not the only option.

I can see the whole thing being opened up to all TV providers and online - I would think the NFL could find a way to get more $$$ out of that arrangement than even what DTV pays through the nose for exclusivity now. And that may even include "pay per view" where you pay a fee for each game you want to see. As much as I like having the freedom to watch any game I want, even when the Phins aren't playing, that's an option I would consider if the overall price of such games ended up being significantly less than I already pay through DTV (which isn't all that bad as I always give them the call each August bout canceling because the price is too darn high. I love how fast they cave and lower it!)

And let's not forget, the NFL already has a great online product for streaming pre-season games, and regular season games (after the fact). I'm sure they are eager to grow that business to include live games. No brainer, you would think, that this has to be part of future arrangements.

This is where I come out. They've got the best technology and features, and customer support is excellent. I won't even entertain FIOS TV because god forbid I have to call Verizon.

I'll just call to cancel the Ticket and get the lower price. Any time I call in to cancel something, they offer to cut the price or give me something else in trade. Last year I got NBA League Pass for half and the Sports Pack free for 6 months.

You don't need a smart TV. X-box, Wi, Roku, will all do the job just fine. I love Direct TV but it's just too expensive. I'd love to be able to just buy the games I want.

Their prices are better because they don't give you as many channels. Dish Network is still behind when it comes to offering most channels in HD.

Until Dish Network can offer NFL Sunday Ticket, they'll always be #2.

The channel difference is minimal. Dish does need NST though. I effing loathe DirectTV, it was really one of the worst experiences.
