Im not sure if its possible but its obvious that when Anthony returns he needs to have his role re-defined. IF Carmelo can still score without having the ball in his hands 3/4 of the time then this Knicks team will have a chance to make an ECF. To me I just dont like his demeanor on the court. His body language is that of a Tracy Mcgrady or a Steve Francis who were very good scorers but always looked uninterested in playing team basketball.

Kyrie would be 19th, but he only has 19 attempts, not 20.

The Knicks aren't a 2nd round team let alone a ECF team as long as D'Antoni is coaching it imo.

This. Lin has been fun and all but this is still a terribly flawed team with an inferior coach. They aren't NEAR beating the Heat, Bulls, 76ers, and probably not the Pacers, Hawks, Magic, or even Celtics. Hell anything over a seven or eight seed is pie in the sky thinking. Who are they beating round one? The Heat or Bulls????

They have a chance making the ECF if everything pans out with Anthony.

This. It's a longshot, but if Melo can figure out a way to really play with these guys as a team, then they can make it out of the first round. ECF may be pushin it even if everything clicks.

    Sell.

I think NY has virtually no chance of making the second round much less the ECF and Melo figures largely in why I feel that way, as does the Knicks coach.

Even if Melo pans out, which is a huge if, they're just not good enough defensively.

It's a team Knicks have no chance against in a 7 game series. As well as if they played the Bulls or 76ers. You need defense against those teams. I don't think any team in the East is going to beat the Heat in a 7 game series this year.

NY played Chicago as well as anyone last year. Philly is a solid team...but let's be honest. That isn't a scary team.

    Lin has one real issue.

First of all, remember that I said that I am a fan. I like his game.

Not to piss on the parade, but he has a very serious issue going left. A decent defensive team can short circuit every one of those pick and rolls by pushing him left, and trapping high. What that spells for is some really ugly stretches of turnovers vs. East teams such as Miami, Chicago, Philly, and Atlanta. Any team that can move, can effectively short circuit what D'Antoni is doing.

The way you try to remedy that is to turn Melo into a spot up shooter, and never play Chandler/Amare/Melo together for any long stretches. Melo should see ALOT of time at the #4 with Lin, and Amare at the #5, to remedy WHAT IS COMING.

Isn't Shumpert, Chandler and Jefferies on the Knicks' squad? I believe that the Bulls have a very good chance making to the Finals.

A few individual players doesn't mean the team plays defense. Put the 13 best defenders in the league on that team and they'll still be mediocre with No D...Antoni coaching them.

So today it comes out that Melo is the one that implored D'Antoni to play Lin. You can look at this two ways:
    1) WTF was Coach Pringles watching for a month in practice?
    2) Melo is not the selfish ballhog much of this board and media makes him out to be.

    Two other notes:
    1. Its down to the Knicks and Clippers for JR Smith
    2. Slam Dunk competition is Iman Shumpert, Chase Budinger, Derrick Williams and Paul George

So you pass on more money and more minutes? Hes close with CP3 and Tyson/Melo. I mean its not a bad decision either way....

I dont. The Bulls have no one else that creates their own shot. Lebron locked up Rose last year when it mattered...I just think thats a horrific matchup for the Bulls. IF the Bulls can add a secondary scorer who can create their own shot that would change things.

The Heat are imo right now the class of the ECF. IF the Knicks get their act together and Lin is for real ad can hold up over the season that might be the only team that can challenge Miami in the East. I dont give Philly, Boston, Atlanta, or Orlando even a punchers chance.

He'd be competing for minutes with Mo Williams and Randy Foye. Foye isnt so much the concern...

Personally I wont be upset if JR goes to LAC but all things equal its a coin flip...

Carmelo supposedly wanting Lin to play does not change the tale of the tape.

We dont know if Antoni was drawing up those shots for Carmelo. He may or may not have we dont know that. People keep saying they will find out alot about Lin in the next month....I think we find out alot about Anthony.

What tale of the tape? Melo never had this selfish label until this year. And thats only because his teammates were deferring to him and because his idiot coach wanted him to be a point forward which he clearly is not even though he was leading the knicks in assists prior to Lin starting.

    Live from the Internet.
With a harder part of their schedule coming up, I feel like Anthony will get blamed if Knicks will start losing, regardless of whether or not it's his fault. All people will see is that they were winning with Lin, and losing with Melo, regardless of competition. I am not a Melo fan or anything like that, but I feel like the NYC media is going to eat him up.
