yeah I'd like to look at Eddie too, whatta you think happened to that kid, the dropoff that is?, he was pretty dynamic early, he's still young but where has he been, I thought he was gonna be able to sustain?, I forget did he get injured badly? I think we have to upgrade that slot and that punt returner position badly, if not someone like Eddie Royal, then look to the draft..Little player named Devon Wylie {I know you know him, Ck has done some nice write ups} would carve up defenses and punt coverage teams real nice.
Kid I worked alongside for a bit a long time ago had the best calves and overall legs I'd ever seen in my life, still til this day, name is Roger stewart, freakin un real man.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1vSEFr9Yfw
I find it humorous that Dan Carpenter makes more money than Cameron Wake. I don't know that I'd give Wake a huge contract given his age and I'm not sure anyone else will unless he has a monster year in 2012.
He JUST turned 30. He's in his prime and he's a Getter not a Gettee so a 4 year deal would be reasonable. He's the same age as Osi and Jared Allen, All in their prime. Lets get'er done!
i used to have problems with posting on my iPad 2 as well, but then they made an update on the forum software here and its working good since then
That's what I was thinking. Signing Williams or Avril, drafting a DE @ 8, without giving Wake the raise he has earned would be a huge slap in the face and probably cause some angst in the locker room. Same goes for cutting a team leader like Bell and replacing him with Reggie Nelson. If Bell was out there looking like a soup sandwich then yeah, cut his ***. But IMO he was above average last year, if it aint broke, yada yada yada...
New coaches are expected by locker rooms to make a splash, also with bell getting much older... If it ain't broke don't fix it, I get it but the nfl isnt your avg mom and pops restaurant, it's a serious business
Bell and Nelson have different skill sets though. Bell is below average in pass coverage, and plays SS. Nelson is pretty good in pass coverage and plays FS. He is also much younger. To cut Bell, move Clemons to SS, or draft a guy like Iloka, and sign Nelson to play FS, would help our pass defense, which is necessary to compete with the Pats. Also, Bell had 2-3 totally uncalled for 15 yard late hit penalties last season, that extended drives, IIRC. Last season, PFF ranked Bell 74th of 87 safeties in pass coverage. Jones was 84th of 87. The sooner we get both of them out of the starting lineup, the better off we are, IMO.
I'd trade Wake for a late 1st (even if it requires us to balance the deal with a mid-late round pick) and draft Andre Branch to replace him since Wake is somewhat out of position IMO on the right (b/c he's most effective pressuring from the left IIRC), and he's too small to man the strong side DE spot, where as Branch is a natural RDE and is more athletic IMO when it comes to playing the hybrid DE/OLB role. IMO Branch is the ideal guy for that RDE spot if we're going to run a hybrid defense. Side note: If we want to be capable of transitioning easily from 4-3 to 3-4 based on our opposing offense, then Andre is one of the guys we should be targeting hardcore..... along with Bruce Irvin & Quentin Coples.
IIRC he was grossly misused by butthole McDaniels. Rookie year he played the slot where he tore it up (b/c that's where he's best suited). Then McDaniels came in and moved him outside much of the time (even though he's not a perimeter guy) and often used Royal's speed as a decoy to help open things for the rest of the offense. He was honestly taking one for the team, but the guy always kept his head up, didn't complain, and did what was asked of him to the best of his ability IIRC. Last year he battled through nagging injuries most of the year. There's nothing wrong with him as a player from what I've read. If we put him in Philbin's offense and reunite him with Marshall, those 2 are both happy and Royal tears it up, and IMO fans forget Bess ever existed here. IMO Royal's one of the most talented slot receivers in the league if you actually use him as one. This is just another example of a player being ruined by his coach IMO.
Great points MC, and I completely agree. At some point you gotta go with the upgrade if it presents itself b/c at some point Bell will no longer be a Dolphin. IMO, do it now and get it over with b/c every future game Bell plays is one game closer to him hitting the wall, and as good of a locker room guy Bell is, he doesn't help us win if he becomes a liability on the field. Clemons is a likable "team" guy so I don't think there would be outrage if he took over SS, and Clemons taking over SS would likely mean we upgraded the FS spot which is a bigger need in today's game than SS IMO (and vs the Pats as you alluded). Besides, I'm guessing this team wants to win games first and foremost, and as such I'm guessing they know just as we do that FS is currently a glaring weak spot. As such, if the team took a private poll about their preference, I bet the majority of them would take the upgrade at FS, see the pass defense improved b/c of it, and give Bell his walking papers if the FS acquisition necessitates it.... b/c if it comes down to it, I'm pretty sure the team will opt for more potential wins coupled with a better shot at a SB than they would Yeremiah Bell.
If this happened this offseason I'd be happy as hell, as much as I love wake he just doesn't fit like he should, if we got a first for him I'd be very happy
Not entirely true. He was hurt with a wide variety of injuries all season, iirc. That and Thomas and Decker were better players, imo.
Selective reading. Idk I'd be surprised if McDaniels was really to blame. Most people (myself included) thought he'd be their Wes Welker when McDaniels went to DEN.
true, but unfortunately they used Royal's speed on the outside as a decoy to help open stuff for everyone else. Stick him in the slot and the 2008 Royal should reappear IMO.
