I dont know but it sure seems like the idiot Armando wants the fins to focus on the defense. now I am aware that we could lose 2 nt's but why cant Miami Franchize one of those two guys ? Am I wrong but wasn't our problems due to our sorry excuse of a offense. Nobody is scaredof our wr's and our tightend is a good blocking tightend but he isntexplosive . our right guard and right tackle need replacing so I willl admitt that.

I was hoping we could sign Hines Ward or draft Malcom Floyd then use later picks on the olineand secondary .

when was the last time people were concerned about our widerecieving corp ? the answer is not since the mark Duper / Mark Clayton days did we have a scary wr corp.

Miami has many needs and here is how i kind of think prevents us from making the playoffs

    qb priority 1

    wr priority 2

    rt Priority 2b

    rg priority 3

    te priority 4

defensive end priority 5 and safety priority 6

Miami needs to stop the foolishness of using the first picks on olinemen because they dont imactthe game like a skill player does. So that is my concern and many coaches beleive this concept andthey are the oneswinnig super bowls.

We gave up 47 sacks last year. We might have set a record without Pouncey.

Our first 4 picks last year went to offense. We brought in a good offensive minded coach who appears to bring out the best in his linemen. Hines is ready for retirement. Floyd doesn't fit what Philbin likely wants our offense to be like. I recommend just chilling out a bit and letting some of these guys actually develop. If we don't address the defense now, what was our biggest team strength and one of the better units in the NFL could quickly become average. You don't get anywhere by jeopardizing a strength to build the weaker area. Outside of QB, most of this draft needs to go toward defense unless an offensive player represents a must have "best player available".

We cant franchise Soliai b/c we already did so once.
Langford is a big loss to our 3-4 defense but not to our transition to a 4-3 one. This transition leaves us now needing 4-3 DEs in a bad way (as if we already didn't need pass rushers as it is).

B/c we lost 4 gms by 12 pts or more and lost 4 gms in the 4th Qtr by failing to hold onto leads, statistical effectiveness and real world effectiveness are two completely different things.

In short: our defense was good enough. Our offense, as has been for years, failed to put up enough points. We were, overall, putrid on the offensive side of the ball. We averaged, what, 19/20 points per game. In todays NFL that is just not going to get it done.

    just differ somewhat in priorities:

    first sign Manning

    then draft:
    1) Tannehill
    2) Center or TE
    3) TE or Center
    4) DE/DT

Tannehill can make an immediate contribution @ WR as well @ QB

Why has no-one mentioned that a lot of our defensive struggles were because our offense couldn't sustain drives and stay on the field. Improving the offense WILL improve the defense.

Ok, you had me going...Safety priority #6?? Who are our starting S's this season ?? Bell, a 35 yr old player who certainly showed his age last season and who ?? Clemons ?? Jones ?? Carroll ?? Or the host of camp fodder left on the roster ??

At any rate, the reason, I think, for the media blitz on the D is that we have a new DC, a new scheme that some of our current starters don't fit into... At this point, prior to FA, we have a need to replace both our safeties as I mentioned above, we have to relocate and re-allocate the 4 of the 5 LBers we have that are all inside backers...Where does Dansby play ?? MLB, OLB ?? How about Burnett ?? Where does Misi fit...inside outside ?? Who is going to be our de opposite Wake (that is if he's going to be moving to DE). Who is going to replace Soliai and Langford ??

There are lots of questions on D, even more than on the O side of the ball...so I think they are rightly worried about the D.

QB is the #1 priority but after that I'd put S, OLB/DE, RT, RG, then a complementary TE and speed WR...

Wait, draft your QB of the future and instead of having him learn his position, switch him to WR ?? Even tho he played WR in college some ?? I don't get that move at all...the last thing we need is to have our future 'franchise' guy tear an ACL playing WR...

I see people want to run this team into the ground by ignoring defense for 2 years in a row in the draft. :pity:

The first 6 rounds of our 2011 draft was offense.... and now some of you want to go "all offense" again? That's a terrible decision [unless offensive BPA is too good to pass up]. Teams do NOT get better by ignoring their strength and letting it turn to crap, and that's basically what some of you want. Would you guys want the Steelers or Ravens to ignore their defense 2 years in a row when they have glaring needs? Would that make Pitt or Balt better or worse?

We have neither a LDE nor quality pass rusher outside Wake (next best was a 50 year old Jason Taylor and he's retired).
If Soliai leaves we're without our nose tackle and no one behind him to take over.
We have a big need at SS and nothing behind him (unless Jones or Clemons moves over), and if you guys ever pay attention to other teams who do things correctly, they draft players in advance so they're groomed and ready to go when their time comes (or in this case, when Bell retires or is cut).

The offense might "appear" worse on the surface but it's not because there are talented young guys developing at positions of need where as there aren't on defense (SS, LDE, RDE behind Wake, NT, and FS if you think Clemons or Jones lack the potential).
Gates is developing at WR and has plenty of potential as a starting flanker and should have a breakout season with Philbin.
Clay is developing at TE and could also be an impact player with Philbin.
Jerry is developing and looked promising at RT. I almost guarantee Philbin turns this guy into a quality starter.
We drafted a franchise center in Pouncey.
    We have a franchise LT.
    We have a franchise WR.
We have a great 1-2 punch at RB if Thomas becomes the talent he flashed the potential of.
Philbin said there's some hidden talent here, and since he's an offensive guy I'm assuming he's speaking more about the offense.

Some of you guys are so scarred Oline-wise from Sparano's tenure that you think Oline needs to be a major priority despite a team having the 2 core Oline positions (LT & C) locked down with franchise players. You're forgetting that other teams don't need so much priority involved in their Oline. Green Bay with Philbin was one of those teams. Sparano is gone. Philbin is here. If Pouncey develops like he should and Jerry continues developing into a decent starter, then an Oline of Long_?_Pouncey_Incognito_Jerry is actually a serviceable unit if they can stay HEALTHY.

1 full offseason for our young players to continue developing paired with an upgrade at QB will instantly improve our offense, where as our defense will take a step backwards if nothing's done to help it.

I think what bothers me the most is some seem to be assuming that because we had the #6 D last season we will instantly be that good or better. No disrespect to Coyle, but Nolan has a much better resume as DC than Coyle. We are likely changing schemes. Some of our current guys won't fit. In fact, we are letting go arguably our 2nd best D player to FA because as good as he is, he doesn't quite have a spot here. I think I would find a way to keep Soliai, but that's just my opinion...He can play either scheme and allow some flexibility to change up the D... We have needs that have to be addressed. Unlike the O, I don't see a lot of young, up and comers on D...

The sad part is that we are changing our O scheme as well. Some of the guys we have may or may not fit. One thing that Philbin has going for him seems to be the ability to adjust to the personnel he has...I hope so. If guys like Clay, Gates, Thomas, Jerry, Murtha don't step up, we could be in the same predicament as the D... And that assumes we DO get a franchise QB...

In my opinion, and with no data to back this up. I believe it is easier to find solid front seven players on defense from the third round out than it is to find offensive players who can make a difference. Exception being the O-Line.

I like the fact we appear to be obsessed with defense. Defense, much to most of the media's chagrin, does win is damn important.

We need an edge rusher, an interior lineman, depth at linebacker, a nickel corner and, in my opinion, a pair of new safeties.

None of these trump the QB thing of course but I'd put our #2 priority as a tie between right side of the offensive line and edge pass rusher. You put wide receiver as priority #2. I'd rank it below kicker and above punter.

A lot of the issues our defense had came from lack of pressure. You can lump a lot of defensive woes into the fact that Cam Wake is our only pressure player. Getting cute with Vontae worked pretty good but you need that consistent pressure in order to impact games. Regardless of the amount of sacks, the pressure the Giants put on the Patriots affected the game. We need more pressure players like that on Defense.

Could it just be that the defensive players available to Miami in the draft are better than their offensive counterparts? The draft seems weak on offensive play makers to me.

skill positions can be hidden. you win football based on the big uglies up front, both offense and defense. Oline should be priority number one. pass rush should be two and quarterback should be 3 simply because there are so many options for the dolphins. Flynn or peyton who will likely both be free agrents and you'd think we have an inside shot at flynn. maybe you can grab tannenhil with the second round pick (trade up) for insurance, or whatever ever prospect is available.

what i don't want is to be in the bidding war for RG3 or luck. I'd be happier with luck but it wont be worth what we give up either way.

because it's better to focus on one thing than two things at a time?
