Odrick's just gotta stay healthy. In college, he had injuries. First year, he gets injured. Hope he stays healthy because the talent is clearly there, as you note.
exactly.... and wasn't it Strahan who commented about pass rushers only needing like 2 solid moves to be successful? I look at a great speed rusher like a pitcher with a 98+ mph fast ball. If you can throw that hard there's less need to add a ton of pitches to your repertoire if they're gonna take away from developing your bread and butter, no. Plus, if Irvin is getting that much QB pressure while being unpolished, then that only makes me want him all the more.
Yes and no, the problem is the guy then has to be so physically dominant his poor technique is not as important, otherwise you have the one trick pony who can be fairly neutralized by athletically decent OL's. IIRC Strahan said you need a move and a counter move off of it, which is fairly common but without good technique..no one overplays the passrusher unless they are just stiffs.
I agree Pods. I wasn't saying he doesn't have work on his craft. Even a great fastball pitcher needs to work on his location, learn how to take a little off and perhaps add some movement to it. At least Irvin has that great fastball to work with, and I really don't see him not developing any technique. He's not that type of lazy underachiever.
Guy I'm thinking of is Aaron Maybin, who was athletic, and quick, but took yrs even to have a moderate impact with the Jets this past yr.
For me, maybe. If I could go back a couple of slots definitely. However, I think you need to begin to accumulate pass rushers somewhere and there aren't a whole lot of them worth a damn in this draft.
Langford "might" be kept since he had a pretty poor year. However there may be a team that looks at him like we did Randy Starks back in the day and gives him that deal. I just think for the insane money that Soliai is going to get...we might as well increase that and go hard after Mario. That would negate having to spend a high pick on a pass rusher instantly and pretty much solidifies the DL to the point that your only looking for depth. Would really free up our draft to, especially if we also land Flynn.
i also don't think he was used to his in a way to capitalize on his strengths. yes he is very explosive and can run the arch with a nice lean. he has the speed rush i just never saw any counter from it.
If we're moving to a 4-3, there's absolutely no way I'd pay Langford the kind of money he'll get from a 3-4 team. He won't see enough snaps to make it worthwhile IMO.
Judging Ireland's history isn't generally the case moving down? Pretty sure whoever Miami has their eyes on can get him in the 12-16 range. Hopefully Richardson, Blackmon, or someone else is there and we can dangle them.
