Maybe this is over evaluating things, but let's not confuse arm strength with velocity. The question for Manning will be can he maintain the velocity required of an NFL QB...That was Marino's downfall, not whether he could put the ball 40 yds down the field. Even WCO QBs need the velocity to stick the ball where it needs to be, when it needs to be there...

This is where I am concerned with the "90% of Manning is better than most QBs" crowd. But we'll see, because nothing any of us say will really matter if they sign him...it'll mean they think he's either back or going to be back...only time will tell who is right and wrong on what will happen with his comeback...

NOTE: I don't think it matters what offense we run as to his ability to either adapt or adapt the O the way he wants it... He's smart enough to either learn a new offense or to adjust to whatever is in the works here in Miami. Lets be clear though, he will be intrinsically involved in whatever the scheme is that we run...

All were first round picks, not wishful hopes of development that came from the late rounds.

And that will not happen because a first round quarterback does not help this team win now.

Once again, Manning is going to defy age and medical odds and play longer than anyone with this injury has ever played before.

Let's just say for arguments sake that he stays healthy in this era when QBs are catered to. Favre played until he was 40. If the more talented Manning plays to 39 that is 4 seasons of great QB play (havent had that since the 1990s) that buys them time to find a young one that we wont this year. Philbin and Ireland would have safe jobs with Peyton Manning, and they would get a few years after he retires as well.

He's a year older than Brady. Don't think the Patriots are shaking considering they're coming off a Super Bowl.

Some teams make their run with Tank Johnsons, Pacman Jones, and TO. Others with Braylon Edwards or Antonio Cromartie. Building a run around Peyton Manning???

Heres what I dont understand KB. Im trying to do this..respectfully...so bear with me. You seem to think..based on your medical experience and knowledge....that it is a foregone conclusion that Manning will not return anywhere near his old form, and there for...would be a poor signing for any team. If this is medically the truth, then why would Manning be working to return to football? Why would he risk his image by returning to a game that he has no possibility of being any good in?

Manning is not a stupid guy. His legacy is built on play at an extremely high play level.....

So..your assessment....and Mannings actions arent meshing very well? How do you account for these differences?

I'm not KB, but IMO Manning is acting just like any competitive athlete would. Marino's legacy would be better if he didn't play that last season after his pinched nerve. But he had great confidence in himself. Heck, even after that 67 rated season he believed he could play.

I must respectfully disagree with this statement. Even in Dan's closing years, he was throwing a pretty hard n hot rock. I vividly remember 5-6 yard crossing patterns dropped by receivers because they were coming in hot n fast.

Not only that, but the Dolphins didn't prepare for Marino's eventually ousting. They forced him out and he retired.

Manning coming here would give a 3-4 year window if he is prepared for it to groom his own replacement.

I'd venture to guess a year into it, with the25- 32nd pick the Dolphins will draft a replacement and have him sit. Much Like Rodgers, Young, and Romo. They all came in and learned from their predecessors.

I wish we would have gotten Mallet last year, he would have been perfect to sit behind Manning for a year or two. With his immaturity and arm, he would have learned the mental side of being a QB behind Manning, while being able to make all the same throws.

Hopefully Tannehill or whoever we draft is ready to take the reigns.
