I found this on an NFL.com comment thread so I didn't come up with this brilliant piece of information but I would like to ask everyone here this simple question with some of my own words included.

We all know how we went all in on Jim Harbaugh last season, Jeff Fisher this season, and on both accounts we lost out. Some say that's a good thing and in right now we don't know but Joe Philbin has been making some nice moves and strides so far.. However I can't help but think that when he walked into the office to meet with Ross that he envisioned Peton Manning as his QB.

So now he has this whole plan he designed basically blown up in his face because the Owner is bone hard on a "Celebrity QB" to sell some seats.. Granted I am all in on this one as well if hes 95-100% and can be productive for 3 years.

So the question is and it's legit what if we swing and misses and Manning goes to Arizona, Cleveland signs Flynn, and Washington trades up to get RGIII? (this was asked in the NFL.com forums)

It strikes shades of last year when we had to cower to Sparano and save face for the year, would we have to do that for Matt Moore once again and say we feel hes the best fit knowing once again we lost out on the prize?

Where does the franchise go if this happens? I think we should be making contact with Flynn and St Louis even behind the scenes to make sure there is a second option. The fan base already wants heads to roll, missing on Manning, RGIII or Flynn and you might see an all out revolt in Miami

Might be too early to worry about missing. Me answering this post is not very good, since I'm not convinced Manning is going to be the Manning of old anyway. I'd say the only thing we can do is hope we get Tannehill at #8 and go with MMoore. He's certainly not the worst QB we've had run this team and he might be a bit better under the WCO...Not as accurate as I would like, but serviceable or better at any rate...Tannehill wouldn't probably be asked to start this year anyway...

If we dont land Flynn or Manning then in all likelihood we will draft Tannehill.

Eh, oh no, we suck again?

Have to take a shot at it, if we fail, we fail, if not then we have a nice answer at Qb, if not, Draft, FA, still open and Moore was good last yr.

How bout we stop playing drama queen? not intended for original poster, but more for the fan base as a whole. I really will be hugely surprised if we don't land Manning. There seems to be enough information (leaks) out there that Manning doesn't want to play for an NFC team, so that leaves us, Kansas City, Jets and Denver. I still don't see Denver as a realistic option, leaving us and KC. pretty good odds.
-IMO, Manning has always respected our franchise since we spent so much time early in his career kicking his ***.
-We have an owner that has a hard-on for him (that does count for something),
-we have a very respected new-offensive minded HC (rules out Jets IMO),
-he knows the city since he has a house here, and we're a much better market than KC.
-We have Marshall, could end up with Reggie Wayne and we have Reggie Bush.
-We have a better defense than KC too.

Than we draft a QB and go with Moore. Fill out our other needs and keep trying until we get our guy.

I found this article and thought it was a bit intriguing.

My main thought when reading this article wasn't so much the potential Marino angle, but the role the South Florida press may end up playing in Manning's decision. He was just cut from the team he's spent his entire career with and, let's be honest, his heart will ALWAYS be in Indianapolis and as soon as he lands in Miami, what happens? The press swarms him like putrid leeches, not even giving the man any space to himself. Now I ask you...if you were Peyton Manning, what kind of impression would that leave on you? "Are you kidding me? You guys can't give me any space whatsoever?"

I don't know. I think if I was Manning, that wouldn't be the type of environment that would leave a very good impression on me.

Now for the Marino angle. Relations between Ross and Marino haven't been all warm and fuzzy, but Marino's loyalty to the Dolphins is still unwaivering and if he and Manning are indeed good friends, Dan's potential counsel to Manning could be critical to his decision whether to sign with Miami or seek greener pastures elsewhere.

But first and foremost, to all of you living in the South Florida area, I'd be screaming at the media to back the f&ck off!!!

At least they're trying. If it doesn't happen we'll have to take a close look at why. Were there missteps by Ross / Ireland? Or did another team offer a crippling / insane amount of guaranteed money? Or did Peyton just flat out choose a different team?

Eh, comes with the territory, and the Miami area media is not known for being particularly aggressive.

That and I doubt Manning is that weak minded, dude is a calm and cool sort, he won't make a decision based on what some chuckle headed media member did, not his style.

Manning didn't seem at all agitated with the media. Gimme a break with that crap. The guy isn't exactly a Howard Hughes type recluse. He's done more commercials than any QB in history. Cut. That. Meat.

Ross wanted Manning even before Philbin was hired. Rest assured that during the interview Ross, Ireland, and Philbin all discussed the QB position (likely in depth) and along with that discussion it is more than probable that names like Manning, Flynn, RG3, Moore, etc... Were discussed.

When hiring a new HC, all teams discuss with that head coach the positions of need and especially the QB position. Its a part of the interview process in the NFL.
