Oh, trust me. If this gets done in the next 3-4 days, then Miami has him. They are the only team that is willing to invest in him without seeing him workout.

A word of caution about how the NFL media works, they will absolutely blow smoke, with nothing behind it, using stuff even a addled minded 2nd grader can recognize.

    "..Manning wants to win now!"

    Duh

"..Manning will take a incentive laced contract!"

    Uhm

"..Texans would be a good landing spot, but they don't want him.."

    Head..hitting...wall..repeatedly...

Then if football priorities are a first, then in all seriousness, I can't see why Miami woulnd't top his list. Of the teams mentioned above, despite our record last year, the Dolphins are the only team that has just about every other piece in place needed to make Manning's job as quarterback easier. He would not have to come in and expect to light up the scoreboard in order to win games.

Offensively, the Dolphins have a good running game, with Reggie Bush proving last year he can be an in between the tackles running back and a good receiving corps led by Brandon Marshall.

Defensively, the Dolphins were one of the best at keeping teams from running up the scoreboard. Sure there are a few holes on defense that need to be plugged, but the point is that Manning wouldn't have to win these games. We have a more complete team already in place.

Since I've not seen the Dolphins make a run at Matt Flynn, that tells me either Joe Philbin doesn't have that much confidence in him or if he does, hasn't been able to convince Ross and Ireland that he is the man. We seem to be "All In" on Manning...and if we fail, it's going to be a test to Philbin's coaching ability as the likelihood of being snubbed by Manning would result in not being able to attract any other free agent quarterback.

So for all of you guys that feel quarterback is our biggest priority...you better hope and pray Manning doesn't snub Miami because if he does... ... we won't see a quality free agent quarterback come to Miami...unless Phibin able to show he is indeed a winner....and in that case, who needs a quarterback?

    Not..a..chance.

Reality is, I'd say Denver and AZ are our largest competition for Manning BUT the way the NFL hype machine works, they have to take any scenario, any slight piece of evidence, call it "sources" and spit out some blah blah full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I bet if you guys got Manning, other veteran free agents might be more willing to come down to South Beach and chase a ring.

    Mario Williams anyone?

Eh, problem is Manning will deserve such a huge deal that it sort of sucks the life out of other big FA signings, Mario W is going to get paid Jared Allen type money imo, no way we could do both, I'd be happy with a some mid level guys.

I hear ya. But you could always restructure some contracts. Guys might be willing to do that for Manning and Williams....that just sounds ridiculous in my mind. You honestly don't need Reggie Wayne. Peyton will turn Brian Hartline and Anthony Fasano into studs. Your Oline doesn't need help. You know who we've had protecting Manning's blind side for the last few years? Charlie Johnson. I'd make some adjustments to the line, at least get rid of Colombo, but you don't need any additional help on O. At least nothing you couldn't address in the draft.

Defense, from what I gather might be a little different. I don't know if you're going to a 4-3, that would be stupid if you ask me. But if you do, you're going to need to fill quite a few holes. I'm sure Starks can move inside to DT, but I don't know who would match him....Odrick? Soliai is gone and he's only a Nose anyway. I don't trust Wake to be an every down DE in a 4-3. You need some more girth, and usually a 4-3 defense has a 7 or 8 player rotation on the Dline....at least we have in Indy. If you really are going to a 4-3, people are willing to restructure, and you cut some of your crap 'cap heavy' players, you could probably afford Manning and Williams.

Hey if you're all in.....go All In!!!

Also kick the s*** out of NE twice a year, and beat my team into a bloody pulp for what they did to my guy.

So true. Even though Manning has stated money isn't the issue, he's still going to command a HEALTHY salary, which will eat up enough cap space to prevent bringing in a Jared Allen or Mario Williams type pass rusher.

Yep, I sort of think this boils down to Ireland forestalling Ross's desire for Manning, but I also wonder if Philbin knew he was signing up for this when hired.

I can't see Manning coming here to Colorado to play for Denver....not with all the crap involving Tebow around here. Why would he want any part of that circus??? Not happening.

If Denver got Manning they'd trade Tebow. I'd say its Miami first Denver 2nd. Ariz would be a great idea but, fanbase I don't see Manning there but, talent is good.

I think we're top on Peyton's list because he gets to play against his nemesis twice a year, maybe even 3 times a year thanks to wildcards.

In addition to Fasano, we have an H -back that can get out there like Dallas Clark in Clay. Nobody else can offer Manning that.

We are all making pretty big assumptions this week (including me). but to play devil's advocate, for all we know Philbin is giddy at the idea of having Manning run his offense. It's certainly a gamble, but if it pays off, it will build a foundation for his career. Others are assuming that Manning wants to play Brady twice a year and that favors us. maybe he's tired of playing Brady all the time.

Just speculation on my part, not even that really, as my question has always been ow long they thought Manning would hit the open market, keep in mind the finsiders show was talking about this as soon as the season had ended, our season, that was months ago.

Mike and Mike just finished a segment featuring nothing at all but rank speculation about Manning.

Most highly competitive people want to play against highly competitive people. Being Type A myself, I can attest to that thought process.

Knight, they can't make any overtures towards Flynn until FA begins. It's tampering if they do... That may not mean that they've let his agent know that they're interested, but they can't say thing's publicly right now about any impending FAs except for those who are currently not under contract....Manning has been released and is not under contract. Flynn is under contract until the new NFL year begins, the 13th, I believe...

I think offensively the Cards offer more than the Fins right now. They also have an established staff and adjusting to Peyton will not be the issue it could be for us... JMO, but there are other teams that can offer as much as we can, it's just a matter of his health and where he chooses to go. Him having transplanted roots in SFL gives us an advantage, but how much will that really play into things in the end ?? I don't know...

And yes, the sky will be falling if he chooses another destination...It will be total devastation to most Fins fan...

I cannot believe there are people reporting with a straight face that Manning would honestly consider Denver. Does anyone think Peyton Manning wants anything to do with this Tebow drama? I'd bet my pension Peyton isn't going to Denver. Doesn't matter if Tebow was traded. Peyton would still be remembered by the Tebowites as the guy that displaced him. He won't admit it, but he wants a fanbase who is going to embrace him completely. If you listened to his press conference he really focused on the fans. He won't get that in Denver. There will always be a vocal outcry from the Tebow crazies.

I don't buy that explanation, you're spinning your logic to accomodate your hopes that we end up with Manning. I see it as the fans in Denver are huge supporters of the team. If they were willing to embrace Tebow, I guarantee they would embrace a REAL QB like Manning much more. Who the heck in their right mind would remember Manning as "the guy who replaced Tebow"?

If it all about his best chance of winning a Super Bowl. The absolute best options for Manning, if the teams are interested in him, are the 49er's and the Texans. Both of these teams have far more talent than the Dolphins and with Manning as their QB, either of these teams would be odds on favorite to win their conference next year.

The Cardinals also would be better suited for Manning because he loves playing in a dome stadium. With Fitzgerald or one side and Wayne on the other side and the young defense of the Cardinals, Manning would instantly make this a contending team in the NFC.

While I certainly want Manning to play for the Dolphins, if it isn't about who will pay him the most, but more about which team is only a QB away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender, Miami's chances appear to diminish in this scenario.

with our end season stretch with moore, i don't completely agree, after our new gameplans are set in place with the new staff, i see us as serious contenders with even a partially healthy Manning. SERIOUS contenders. Maybe not as good as houston,....... but still I don't count us any worse than AZ or Wash or any of those other teams really, bias aside i really don't see any of them as that good to begin with.

edit obviously the draft and FA this offseason is going to impact my statement a lot, but I still see us as deserving more credit than that, and some teams being over exaggerated in their skill

It was reported that Manning would PREFER to remain in the AFC, but he is quoted as stating that he is certainly willing to play in the NFC ,if a team in that conference presents the best opportunity for him.

I totally disagree that Arizona is better suited for him. Their offensive line is not that good and yes, they have Fitzgerald but Marshall is on his level and with Wayne thrown in the mix, we'd have just as good of a receiving corps. The only teams in the mix that are better fits for Manning are Houston and possibly Tennessee, but we don't really know if they are actually trying to sign him.
