I don't think that's accurate... Or maybe I just don't want it to be... What is your source on this?

an article in the Miami Herald today: Philbin & the Miami Alumni talking football... didn't say anything outright but somehow I read between the lines he was not 100% behind the Manning movement. read it. see what you think. sometimes a writer can take things out of context & twist them in one direction or another.
hard to believe Philbin would be stupid enough not to get on board for Manning enthusiastically & the article subtly implied he was anything but... or did I read it wrong? the article left me uncomfortable after reading it.

I caught this little twitter exchange this afternoon.

Hopefully, the Dolphins don't have any more top ten picks in there immediate future. I think it's time to pull the trigger even if they have to get infront of Washington.

Some of this is jumping the gun, if Sparano got an extra year, I think Philbin is entitled to at least 2 before we have this discussion. That unless ofcourse he proves to be another Cam Cameron, but I don't get that feel from him.

Draft Winds will also have a feature on Tannehill, Weeden and Griffin I believe.

Looking forward to them already Richard.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a favorite QB among those three - Tannehill, Weeden, and Griffin, or do you have another darkhorse 1st rounder for us again this year?

Manning/Tannehill is our ticket, anyone who cannot see that is a Spranano & deserves to be dealt with accordingly. unless, they get us very deep into the play-offs in 2012 with their alternative to the obvious, at least that's my opinion.

close the deal with Manning, then draft Tannehill @ 8 :dolphin:

My new irrational fear is that Manning upon finding out that we are willing to see him without him working out for us, thinks we are stupid and signs elsewhere.

If you knew the question marks around yourself and saw a team wasn't even concerned, wouldn't you think they were not doing due diligence? Personally I would.

I can't think of one reason why Peyton Manning should or would care about the Dolphins process or due diligence in bringing in free agents. He wants a new job, he believes in himself. Why would he be upset because a team is NOT that skeptical about his ability to get back onto the field? I don't even think that makes much sense.

That too. ESPN is reporting that he plans to sign somewhere within the next week.

Twelve teams are interested, I don't think there are going to be any workouts.

You don't see the connection between not doing due diligence on this and on other things? He also wants a WINNING team, or rather one that he believes can win with him at quarterback. I'm not saying he thinks this, Im saying sometimes you can make yourself look desperate.

Thats a good question actually. Each has their own pluses and minuses. If we sign Manning, Weeden likely becomes an afterthought simply due to his age, he can't be afforded 2 years on the bench as easily as someone younger. Its not fair, but thats the likely scenario IMO if we get Manning.

As much as people want to pencil in Tannehill to us due to OC's history of him, to be honest I wonder if RG3 doesn't better fit his system, and what Ireland probably looks for in a QB. I say 'probably' because I'm going off the old Parcellian principles, which must have rubbed off to a degree on Jeff, although I think he showed last year that he does 'get it' in terms of bringing in versatile space players. Last year we got word they wanted to take Ponder at 15 should he be there, then it was Pouncey and on down the line.

One thing about Tannehill that worries me is he has a penchant to zip the ball everywhere, even on shorter throws where a little less velocity and added touch would get the job done better. The thing you want to see over his starts is does he improve somewhat.

As far as a clear cut favorite.......hmm...at this moment it may RG3 honestly.

IMO, Dan knew a lot more than he was letting on. It's just a form of self deprecating humor to me. Saying he didn't know anything more than just throw it to the open man. It was much more just natural with Dan. He could read defenses and coverages just fine. As far as conveying what he sees and how he sees it, would be a different story. It's kind of like baseball players like Aaron and Ruth, when they talked about hitting. When asked how they knew what the pitch was, how they adjusted and reacted, they really couldn't explain it any better than they see the ball and the if it looked good they swung. That's there advice on how to hit, which is why they couldn't be good hitting coaches. The great hitting coaches, like Charley Lau, were generally marginal major league hitters at best.

What? Marino? He had world class anticipation. He could read coverages and go through progressions naturally and with such ease. It was more subtle than obvious. He just isn't the type who is able to instruct anyone else how he did it. Those who can, do. Those who cannot, teach. Marino was like a Roy Hobbs when it came to everything to do with passing. The Natural.

Lande has historically had a keen eye when it comes to QBs. So, I'd take his word for it over Average Joe on a football forum any day.
Probably the best judge of young QB talent on his forum is Rafael, and he likes Tannehill very much.

Like Con said, Philbin would have to be a Cameron level of train wreck as a head coach to get canned after one season.
I see no reason at this point to assume he is.

I think Manning will sign with the Dolphins. First, its a different location/scenery, and I think he would be a bit happier here rather than being in Indy. Although, he's been with Indy since he signed, it might just be the right time to start over. My only thing is, he's a bit older, and some people might feel like if he signs a deal with a new team, how long does he have to take until he retires, break something (and can't come back), or not do as well as expected? There's a good chance for him to sign with the Dolphins, if all goes well.
