Just pointing out the obvious. I'd be ****ing embarassed if I was Sanchez. Pity money from your owner lol Makes the Sparano extension look tame. I wonder if he's intentionally calling him Snachez, if so that's priceless.
Ireland doesn't even realize that the rules allow for a trade up in the first round. He seems to only think that the Dolphins can trade down in the first round. So it wasn't that he didn't bite on this trade, he didn't have a clue that he could even move up in the first round of the draft or so it seems.
Also lets not forget the Redskins were at pick 6. What would it have taken Miami to beat them? 3 1sts, a couple 2nds and a 3rd? Or 4 1sts? Yah that's far too much for an unknown quantity. Not to mention..just how are the Redskins going to build their team over the next 3-4 years without those picks. It's a domino effect now because to recoup extra picks for bodies they'll have to trade down with their other picks. It'd be one thing if it was a stacked team without a QB, but even with a good QB the Redskins are fighting for their lives for a playoff spot.
The Skins are just bad. I can't see any redeeming qualities about them. When I think of them in my mind, I picture a dumpster fire. It's been that way for a long time now.
They have a very good defense and a decent offense. If they can fix their OL they could be a contender as soon as RG3 develops.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...skins-acquire-no-2-overall-pick-st-louis-rams Adam mentions the fins asked about the #2 but couldn't make a deal.
Great move for the Skins. They went out and got their franchise QB. Snyder has some serious balls. He either saved that franchise or crippled it.
You can't really judge this trade right away despite what people always do when its the draft or trades, in 3 years if RG3 is an elite NFL Qb it was well worth it. If he is just good and not great it was a bad deal, if he is a bust then it was a franchise crippling deal. But the Skins realize that Qb play is holding them back and they had to get the Qb position settled to go anywhere. They probably just sold out their season's worth of tickets by the end of the week too.....
That bad team with no redeeming qualities just happen to have beat the Super Bowl Champion, New York Giants, TWICE last season with Rex Grossman as their starting QB. Now with RG3 slated to be their QB for many years to come, I can very easily see the Redskins becoming the dominant team in the NFC East over the next few years. I think like most rookie's, RG3 will be in a learning process next season, but by 2013 I think the Redskins will not only be a playoff contender but also a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
In my opinion, this trade only benefits the Rams. Washington is a hot mess and their offensive line has as many holes in it as a tennis racket. It's going to be awfully difficult for Griffin to be throwing the ball from the flat of his back, especially with that pass rush they face from the Giants twice a season, not to mention the defenses they face in the Eagles as well as Rob Ryan's defense in Dallas. The Rams on the other hand, although plagued by injuries last year are now sitting in a spot to rebuild their team around Sam Bradford. Between these 1st draft picks they acquired and free agency, look for the Rams to bounce back with a vengeance, especially with Jeff Fisher rebuilding that defense. I'm already picking Rams as a sleeper team in the NFL next year.
Or what Miami was smart not to do. Pretty pricey to move up a few spots for a QB not named Luck. Not saying if Miami did that, I wouldn't be excited, just saying they overpaid and I wouldn't categorize this as being courageous. More a bit foolish.
Overpaid? Hard to say. Steep price for sure though. Regardless, the Skins did what they felt they had to do to get their man. That in and of itself is the kind of "balls" that this franchise lacks. I think that may have been Sumlit's point (not trying to speak for him mind you). At any rate, I'm just happy Griffin is off the table. Nothing against the kid, I just doubt how well his game will transition to the NFL. It's also one less suitor for Peyton (not that they were considered a major player for him).
Great move by the Redskins. No price is too high for your franchise passer. This kid is a fabulous player and will be the face of the nations capital.
and yet he'll be surrounded by ZERO talent for years to come. He could be the next Dan Marino in that regard.
Exactly. Also the day of outrageous contracts for top 5 picks is over. Makes the pick even more valuable.
We'd have to give up even more than they did. Skins gave up 3 first rounders and a 2nd rounder. That would be 4 first round picks for us at least. FOUR... I'd entertain that for Luck... but not for RG3.
Personaly I would of liked seeing Miami getting involved in this by selling the skins their 8th pick for Washingtons 2nd this year and their 1st n 2nd next year. I think Stl would of traded for 2 top ten picks in this draft and Was would of gotten RG3 cheaper then what they paid. We would of been sitting on 2 2nd rd picks this draft and 2 1sts and 2 2nds next draft. Everybody knows Snyder likes to make big moves to get what he wants I wish we would could of benefited from it and as an added bonuses stuck it Fisher a little bit. That would of put us in a good postion to try to get Barkley next draft if things do not work out this season and if they do we would have 4 nice draft picks to use to fill holes on the roster. It really would of been a win all the way around.
Thats too much to move up 2 spots on a player that does "look" like a player with a very high ceiling....BUT fact is thats just too much to give.
Its not just that Boomer, the Redskins are the very definition of talentless. See, If we pulled this off we would be in much better shape then them going forward.
Oh, i don't know. Another 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder would have probably sealed the deal for the Phins. I never said it was smart, just a move that takes guts. I now hope the guy doesn't turn out to be a monster, otherwise, add him to the long and growing list of "what could have been" if only the Dolphins had taken a chance.
Marino was surrounded most of his career by a lot of offensive talent. I don't see how anyone could refer to Nat Moore, Mark Duper, Mark Clayton, Tony Nathan, Irving Fryar, Keith Jackson, Mark Ingram, etc, as "ZERO talent".
yeah but they're not HOF inductees. They're one of NFL's top 10 All Time receiving corps. Frumundah needs to go back under the attic. We've let him out too long.
I'm not as convinced of this as you. Once Duper and Clayton began aging he never had an elite WR threat. Keith Jackson was well known to have been a malcontent and caused more drama than he did positive production. Tony Nathan was not a dynamic RB by any means at all. He was slow and plodding. Marino never had a dynamic RB to rely on like the Broncos were able to find for Elway which helped him get over the hump to a Super Bowl win. It certainly wasn't zero talent but he was not surrounded with what he needed to make serious Super Bowl runs. Marino constantly had big challenges in talent to overcome during the later part of his career. Not to mention the awful defensive units he had to deal with.
I may be in the minority but I'm happy as a pig in slop that it's the Skins giving up a bounty of 3 first round picks and not us. That's ridiculous.
I was always under the perception that it was mostly our defense that prevented another trip for Dan to the Super Bowl.
No disagreement but we didn't exactly give him an elite offensive unit to work with either. Just think of the littany of RB busts we had during his tenure. It's an absolute joke. I've always said that if Miami had a decent GM during those years and Shula just focused on coaching that Marino's era would have gone much differently for him.
Surely our offense could have been better overall but to say Marino was surrounded by "ZERO talent" is ridiculous.
