we can dispute this or that, talk about arm strength or lay-offs, whatever
    however
if you really want Peyton Manning & are willing to roll the dice

the solution is simple & definitive.
Peyton will not be all about money, although we will need to be respectful in dealing with his contract.
Peyton wants to redeem himself & add to the legend, he wants to win a SuperBowl.
If we agree to a package that includes Saturday & Wayne, the deal is done. it is about that simple, nothing more.

personally, I think it will be the biggest mistake Miami has made in 15 years of bad decisions
if they allow him to walk. we will regret it. got to ask yourself, do you really want a Superbowl?

now, how to get it done?

I think it might be a little more complicated than that.

Now to get past the fact that other teams are possibly willing to do that and more.... ?

went through my sources after your post & found nothing that says exactly what I said in the thread. but the idea has been suggested/implied but other people who know the business better than me to say the least, although I have been a proponent of this idea for a while now.

that's where your gross oversimplification fails. "If all things being equal" is a silly statement, because they are not. Your lack of analysis fails to consider other factors. Arizona plays indoors and has the best WR to throw to. Manning may not be looking for the cosmopolitan - bright lights-big city atmosphere that Miami offers and maybe Denver is more what he is accustomed to. Ownership and management of the three teams are going to be very different and can potentially offer differing levels of "piece of mind" which is probably the overriding factor for someone like manning looking to play another few years.

So let me get this straight. The Colts won "one" Super Bowl with Manning in his 14 year career when he was healthy and 30 years old. But it is a given if we sign him at 36, coming off quadruple neck surgery and still trying to regenerate nerves and build muscle in his throwing arm then we are guaranteed a Super Bowl?

Wow...I never realized winning Super Bowls was so simple.

I posted eight reasons & the betting odds favor Miami as well

    whats not to like?

OL: Long-Pouncey-Saturday Incognito-(Murtha, Carey, Gardener, Jerry)
    QB: Manning
Targets: Wayne , Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Fasano, Bush, Thomas

the Colts suffered from the "Marino Syndrome" with Manning
& even then, launched a new NFL franchise & won a SuperBowl.
the current Miami Dolphins are a better all round football team (talent)
then either Marino or Manning played with for most of their respective careers.

as I posted in the initial thread:

we can dispute this or that, talk about arm strength or lay-offs, whatever
    however
if you really want Peyton Manning & are willing to roll the dice

the solution is simple & definitive.

baloney. Your rose-colored glasses are about 5 inches too thick.

-Colts superbowl winning team had a much better offense than what we offer.
    1) younger Manning - advantage colts
    2) Harrison and young Reggie Wayne - advantage colts
    3) young Dallas Clark - advantage colts
    4) pass protecting O-line - advantage colts
    5) run blocking O-line - push
    6) running backs - potential advantage with Miami w/Bush, but our other RBs are no better than what Colts had

    Defense:
    1) pass rushing - BIG advantage colts. young Freeney > Wake. Mathis better than anyone else we have
    2) DTs and LBs - advantage Miami
    3) CBs - advantage Miami, but not by a significant margin
    4) safeties - big advantage Colts. Sanders was 10x better than any of our safeties

Coaching: advantage Colts until Philbin proves otherwise.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you. I also think we have the edge in signing Manning, but not for the reasons YOU stated in the original post. signing Saturday and Wayne, IMO, is much lower on the priority list. It's a nice-to-have, not a must have. We have a young pro-bowl center as opposed to a center that is essentially on the verge of retirement.

    Careful now.

Robbie had frugal gene, even was cheap in the 70's.

Marino even considered leaving in the late 80's.

Yes indeed! Robbie refused to be the first owner to give a player one million dollars per season so he let Zonk, Kiick and Warfield walk while the team was in its prime

If it were only this simple...you have forgotten a few things...is he healthy enough and will he be able to stay healthy? Can we still add Wayne and Saturday and Peyton and stay within the cap....oh, but wait...how will we get a SS, FS, OLB, OT, TE to complement Mannng, Wayne and Saturday...we will down 2 DL (Soliai and Langford)...Oh, no problem...Who will be our SS because in order to sign the offensive trio you named, we'd have to cut Bell. You add Saturday in a position where we have a pretty good one already ?? Do you hinder the guys progression from rookie to veteran by changing his position ??

Yeah, good plan 23rd....Peyton will never sign with us if that is our plan...he's much smarter than that...

It was 1986. Bears dangled Singletary and Neal Anderson for Marino. Trade.
Chicago shut it down if I recall...

Recall he considered forcing his way out a bit later.

Al Davis famously handing him that blank check....
