Looks like Cardinals would basically have to clear 21+ in cap space to sign Manning. That will be a big hurdle for them, and certainly helps our chances...

On the other hand, if the Cards do sign manning, it would be interesting to see which players they release.

I heard their left tackle Levi maybe? is due about 17 mil this year and they intend to try and restructure. However I he doesnt and gets cut that would leave Mannings A** twisting in the wind.

Makes you think of what players they are going to have to get rid of in order to sign Manning. Will they lose some talented players? Damaging some of their appeal?

14.5M for Levi Brown - Rotoworld

Per Profootballtalk.com's updated salary cap data, the Cardinals must clear $16.4 million -- plus whatever they pay Peyton Manning -- in order to sign the free agent quarterback by Tuesday at 4PM ET.
The Cardinals need to get under the cap by Tuesday, anyway. Their first move will be to release LT Levi Brown, saving $14.5 million. They can save roughly $3 million more by cutting Todd Heap and Chansi Stuckey, and are expected to either part with or restructure ILB Stewart Bradley's deal. Cutting Kevin Kolb might be put on the backburner for now, especially since Manning isn't expected to sign with a team before Tuesday's free agency commencement.

I don't think money will be an issue if they want Manning, AZ can cut a few players or restructure and get under the cap.

It's not just about Manning. They need to replace the players they cut as well and make more moves (sign draft picks, fill spots in FA and so on) as well. The question isn't can they make enough cap room to sign Manning because I'm sure they can. The question is can they make enough cap room to sign Manning AND field a full team.

Well, we know Manning visited Arizona, and I think they're pretty aware of their cap situation. If there isn't a plan in place on how they will handle the cap overage and a rough idea of what they're going to do to pay Peyton, then that's pretty embarrassing for their FO.

The only thing this might affect with Manning to Arizona is who is left on the team when the cuts go through.

It's hard to see Arizona as a serious contender for his services, however much Whisenhunt might want him. For the same reasons however, the Broncos look to be in a very strong position.

Many older QBs, including our own Marino have said how playing in warm weather extended their career. Esp coming off first real injury this should be important. As for AZ an NFC team with no real history, cap issues and if cap fixed big holes possibly includiing LT!! My fear is how much Archie is involved.
