who is he going to throw it to? We are going to completely overpay for Flynn. Cant believe these moves
WOW freaking wow. I was so excited based on the idea of Manning and wayne to miami. Flynn is a QB i was after during free-agency and im happy about that but not having a LEGIT #1 to toss the ball to is crazy. I sure hope were going to get a big time free agent to catch the ball.
Isn't this the same Omar that could not find water if he fell out of a boat? Or am I thinking of someone else?
Problem is, this is how Ireland does things, making even egotistic blowhards correct when it comes to predicting the next move.
We'll just have to wait and see how everything plays out. Marshall was traded for reasons beyond irritation. Obviously there is a plan at that position, and dealing Marshall was the first step.
I would tend to agree with that statement with a rational team. This team however consistently makes me scratch my head. If this move wasn't about aquring a talented wideout in the process and instead were going to go with our current team and a rookie QB or Moore even, than I seriously hope the Dolphins fail to sell one single season ticket..
We have ammo. If we get Flynn, we could potentially use the extra picks to move up the board and select Blackmon. Maybe Broyles later on if he falls far enough.
And then rumored interest in VJax, only to see him sign in Tampa on Day 1? This has the makings of a rebuild.
Have to think a trade up for Blackmon is possible, but it is a head scratcher or a move outisde of cap space right now.
Is Blackmon's mom a prostitute? Cap space, or whatever the case may be, the Marshall trade came out of left field. Trading away one of you only offensive weapons to your boyhood team (remember, he was a ball boy for the Bears) makes little sense outside of cap-saving space. THIS move is certainly not the way to put butts in the seats. I am glad for Marshall. He will have a shot at the playoffs with the Bears. I think he turned things around for the better coming into this season, and it really showed (esp. in the Pro Bowl haha). In all seriousness, I will miss the big guy. How exactly does Miami put butts in the seats without having a big-name player on the squad, someone the fans can cheer about? As one poster put it, this certainly smells like "Rebuilding 101".
What gets me is that the Marshall move was supposedly all Ireland and that he had to beg Parcells to get it done, promising to get back a second round (which he did by passing on earl thomas to trade down and take Oddrick/Misi). Now two years later we are trading him for a pair of 3s? It's just hard to fathom trading away our best offensive player now that we supposedly are finally addressing the QB position. I honestly am not sure how it makes it us a better team at this point in time. I don't see anyone on the team replacing Marshall, and I don't see anyone left in FA who might could do it. Blackmon is the only real draft pick I think that has a decent chance. If maybe we package our thirds, would it be enough to trade with say the Bucs?
Winning will put butts in the seats. Marshall didn't fit the west coast system and if you watch GB they spread the ball out to everyone (one of the main reasons the WC is so successful). I think Marshall could have been a headache down the line for not getting targets, etc. Which is the last thing Philban would want while implementing a new offense. If we sign Eric Winston and Matt Flynn and draft a Kendall Wright or Malcolm Flyod in the first round and then maybe another receiver in the 2nd or 3rd we could be set. Looking at the Packers WRs: Greg Jennings - 2nd round pick Jordy Nelson - 2nd round pick James Jones - 3rd round pick Donald Driver - 7th round pick Randall Cobb - 2nd round pick (last pick of 2nd round) Looking at that history if we spend our 1st and a second or third on a WR we should easily be set at the position.
He is looking for a different skill set in WRs now though. That makes a world of difference when evaluating guys.
Nice post, and I agree with you. But I get the feeling that the fans in Miami are a little flaky and WANT a big-named star (just my opinion, fwiw). You are absolutely right. Winning = butts in seats. But in this almost obvious rebuilding model, one has to wonder what "splash" Ross is going to make? He is, in fact, one to make big statements. That's just his style. If Peyton is not the big statement, what is? We fans (including all of the diehards here) have been starving for that QB to right this ship. Right the damn ship already! I am getting tired of the sub-par QBs, and Manning would certainly quell those feelings, even if for a little while. If Manning comes and fails, I will at least say to myself "the organization tried." But with that, as much as the trade makes sense for both squads, it equally stinks because Marshall is a legitimate star in the league.
Trading up for Blackmon or taking him at 8 will not have any effect on our cap. You are aware of the rookie wage scale aren't you?
no ones rumor he signed with TB http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...neers-sign-vincent-jackson-five-year-55m-deal
Nothing like going from, " hey we are a QB away from competing for AFC Championship, to rebuilding in less then 24 hours
The only idiotic move Ireland made was trading for Marshall in the first place. Those second round picks could have been put to much better use. This team could have had Jason Pierre Paul and Ryan Mallet instead of Brandon Marshall, but because they traded two second round picks, they had to trade back out of range for JPP to recoup the first second round pick, and then had to deal up to get Daniel Thomas because they didn't have a second round pick.
It's March. There's still a whole free agency and draft to go through. Just because Marshall was traded doesn't mean Hartline and Bess will be starting Opening Day. Someone will be acquired. I like Flynn a lot and Philbin knows him better than anyone so I'd be happy to get him. Will we though, is the question.
