Not sure if this has been posted yet and if so please feel free to lock or remove thread, but as a life-long Dolphin fan it hurts to read articles like this: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...st-marino-just-to-get-a-meeting-with-manning/ What worries me the most about this article is not the fact that Marino had to be contacted in order to get through to Manning, but it is the fact that Manning was never even interested in the Dolphins and how that fact affects our leverage with potentially signing Matt Flynn. I love and support this franchise through thick and thin, but Ross and Ireland have to make something good happen soon and change their reputations quickly because this is getting embarrassing.
Golly, I read that article and nowhere did it say why Manning didn't want to sign here. So clearly the only reason is that Ross/Ireland sucks. Sigh. Forget the fact that the Titans are a finalist and their owner is Bud Adams. The same Bud Adams that many on here called the worst owner ever and the sole reason Jeff Fisher had such a bad win loss record. Will it occur to anyone that maybe Manning didn't want to come here because of things outside our control? Like our division, or weather, or didn't want to do anything to tarnish Marino's legacy, or doesn't want to live in Miami year around, or prefers a smaller market team, or who knows. Is anyone going to be more mad at the media (then they are at the FO) for basically lying to everyone saying we were the favorites from day one, when we very clearly weren't? The Dolphin fans got raped today and not by Manning, not by our FO, but by the media. They lied and raised our hopes, and I hope as a fanbase we can keep our focus there and not just start blasting the FO for something that may not be their fault. (Unless we get specific reasons from Manning as to why we weren't on the list).
Manning not being interested in Miami is not the issue...that's just "so be it". What's concerning is that even after he told them, they badgered him until he half-azzed listened to them. This is not very surprising at all, as that's how I've felt all along about whether he was really interested... I am still of the opinion that he simply won't be the same guy as before. Will he help a team out ?? Absolutely. That said, we needed a guy that will be here thru the rebuilding/retooling/getting players for the new coach's system process we are going thru. I don't think Manning wanted to be that guy. The next step is where do we go now... I am not concerned, in and of itself, that Manning is choosing to go elsewhere, what I am concerned about is who is going to be our QB next season... So, Mr Loss...go do what has to be done...whether that is Flynn, MMoore, Tannehill, Weeden, Hasselback/Kolb or whoever (other than Tebow, but that's a thought for another post)...It's time to kickstart this franchise and move on...somehow the last 6 months, this team has been doing nothing by spinning it's wheels...let's get some traction and move on...
Did Larry just say Mr. Loss? Your right now the FO needs to act fast or get their marbles ready for the draft
Wait, first you say "no where did it say why Manning didn't want to sign here" and that equates to Ross/Ireland suck ?? I don't get the connection...let's see that means that (assuming he's going to Denver as it now appears) that Munchak/Adams/Reinfelt suck too ?? And Wisenhunt/Bidwell/Graves suck as well... And Irsay/Polian/Grigson/Pagano suck too. And Seattle, Cleveland, Wash and NY must really suck because he wouldn't even listen to them ?? Fin D, that's a pretty weak statement...Manning chose what he felt was best for him. We certainly didn't have the assets to offer him anything certain other than money, which you conveniently condemn Loss for in your statement... I'll be the first and certainly not the only one to criticize Mr. Loss for whiffing yet again...Harbaugh, Fisher, Manning. You could make a case for 'three strikes and you're out'. And now you want to blame the media, too. Well, if the FO is half as smart and were actually worried about what the media is reporting (which I highly doubt), I would think the more the media is concentrating on things that don't matter to them instead of what they are actually trying to do. We'll never know for sure anyway. But blaming the media for our teams' woes just doesn't make sense. Any fan that is swayed by everything they read/see, well they are going to be disappointed at some point in time anyway... But one thing is certain, we are where we were yesterday...waiting to see what the FO is going to do next...but then so are 31 other fanbases...
What I'm curious about is why Mortensen and Schefter kept reporting that Miami was the favorite going in, when there doesn't seem to be any evidence that was ever the case.
I didn't post this thread with the intention to bash our FO. It was more about the fact that Manning not considering Miami a viable destination would negatively affect our leverage in signing Matt Flynn. However these offseason moves shake out, I simply hope that the Dolphins are successful in order to move forward, improve our reputation, win games and NOT hinder our ability to attract talent players to the organization in the future.
FTR, I wasn't really addressing you, which is why I didn't quote you in my post. Your post did not strike me as being overly negative or anything.
I believe Manning had already made up his mind he didn't want to come to the Dolphins from the start, for whatever reason. No interest whatsoever, and all of the indications were there we just couldn't believe it, that Peyton Manning wouldn't want to come to Miami. It may seem like an insult to some but it was just a business decision concerning the end of his career.
Ok imagine you have a dog. Let's call him dog A. You take him to the park, his tail is wagging cause the park is full of wonderful fun things and other dogs. After smelling a lamppost for a couple of minutes he spots another dog (dog B), and is happy, cause he likes other dogs. So off goes dog A, runs up to dog B to give it a sniff. "hi there dog B, let's be friends". Dog B however isn't interested, he has spotted some other dog he recognises from a while back, and goes rushing off, leaving dog A behind. So what does dog A do? Does he, A) Take the rejection as evidence that there is something terribly wrong with him, that somehow he is a dysfunctional dog because dog B clearly didn't want him, that all the other dogs must be secretly barking about his lack of dogness, and that no dog is ever going to want to be his friend. Or, B) Roll in his own poop, think nothing of it, and go chase the next dog.
or C) Go hump the poodle hanging out by the fountain. All kidding aside, reading how it took Marino to get Manning to even talk to the Phins is almost kinda funny. If it wasn't so sad that is.
**** Manning, he doesn't want to be here? **** him x2. Let's actually find someone who wants to be here.
