Well, in some ways, it can be said that he's our 2nd option and yet we haven't broken down the doors to get him signed ?? I mean, they've known for 3 days that Manning as a no-go and he's just now getting into the fray ?? But, logically, you're right...

They called Flynn as soon as Manning let them know they were out. Flynn wasn't about to drop his Seattle visit (that would take mass $$$'s to have made him do that).

Flynn and the dolphins always knew he was 2nd choice to Manning, and who wouldn't be second choice to Manning other than Luck?

He went to Seattle to cover the possibility Manning went to Miami, as soon as it turned out otherwise, he was straight here. I see no evidence of us 'being slow' to bring him in, he is Philbins guy and there was no need to rush into it.

People do learn by watching and emulating. A lot of apprenticeships, the person just watches for a certain amount of time. Watching someone who is excellent at something does help.

If Dolphins sign Matt Flynn to a reasonable contract, and Matt Moore beats him out because he is playing good football. I do not think that is the end of the world. Honestly I wouldn't care of Pat Devlin beats both of them out because he is playing great football. All I want is a good quarterback. I do not care who it turns out to be.

Some on here wouldn't be satisfied with an appearance witnessed the entire city of Miami, recorded on multiple videos, and certified by the Vatican and reported on NFLN of Vince Lombardi with a Dolphin's hat on saying "What in the hell is goin' on around here? Sign the guy!!!"

It more or less worked like that in GB.

McCarthy the HC called the plays, but Philbin built the gameplan. It was Philbin's offense that was being run. That is why I liked Philbin coming here. Calling plays has nothing to do with being a good HC. Building gameplan that even the worst OC in the league (McCarthy) can have success in.

To be 2nd option when Peyton Manning is 1st option does not mean the Dolphins don't have a sense of urgency now that he is the top option. Peyton being 1st option may have been more Ross, not Philbin...we don't know.

Once Miami did find out they weren't an option for Manning it appears they quickly lined up Flynn for a visit. Flynn already had a visit with Seattle happening and it would be in Flynn's best interest for contract negotiations if there is another team that wants him. It is possible Miami contacted Flynn's agent and asked him to cancel his visit with Seattle, but Flynn and agent said "no." Again, we don't know.

It appears to me that Miami has pressed the issue as they weren't saying to Flynn to take day or two to recover from jet lag and let's meet on Sunday or Monday. They had him in at 5-6am (had to do with medical staff's availability) but if there wasn't an urgency from Miami my guess is they would have waited a day or two when the medical staff had availability.

In general yes. At the position of Quarterback in the NFL I do not think that applies. How many line calls did the Colts backups watch Peyton Manning make? Doesn't mean they can emulate it. How many pre-snap reads did Henne watch Pennington make? He still couldn't read a blitz to save his life. Certain things or tendencies might rub off but IMO nothing major.

Yeah, there are several circumstances that could be in play.... It could be that Flynn really wants to come here and be reunited with Philbin and he's waited on the Manning parade to pass. It could be that Philbin has wanted him as well, but beings that Mr. Loss and Ireland have been enamored with Manning, he's asked Flynn to wait it out. It could be that Seattle and Cleveland are not all that enamored with Flynn. It could be that they are and as you said, he already had a visit with Seattle scheduled and had promised Philbin a chance anyway. Could be that we (meaning Philbin) see Flynn as competition for MMoore, not a slam dunk starter if he signs. There are a bunch of possibilities, but will we ever really know the real one ??

So that means we will most likely be running Sherman's offense, based on that logic right? It will be interesting to see how our offense turns out then because Sherman ran a balanced attack at Texas A&M while he ran a WC when he was the OC in Green Bay.

I know Philban on record said he would let the OC call the plays when he is the HC...

No. The point being the person who calls the plays doesn't have to be the same person who makes the gameplan.

Lol, I agree. I think we are talking about two different things.

My original post had to do with whether we would be running Philban's offense or Sherman's. I know they both have a history with the WC, but there are a lot of differences between certain WC offenses. Additionally, Sherman ran more of a balanced attack at Texas A&M last year. So if we are using Philban's offense with the same exact terminology and everything than that makes Flynn that much more attractive, but if we are running Sherman's offense then that means Flynn will have to learn a new offense as well.

Unless, you are saying you think we will run Philban's offense, but Sherman will be calling the plays lol.

Noone is saying that he will be the next Aaron Rodgers, but saying it has nothing to do with whether he has success or not is false. Noone knows and that's the beauty of it. Im sure he has watched a ton of tape on Moore and watched Flynn for 4 years. I think I'll take his word over it over any of the armchair qbs here (including myself). He doesn't have to be the next Rodgers either. I'll take top 10.

The Flynn era begins!!! Woohoo!!! May Flynnsanity outlive Lin-sanity, Tebone mania, Fiedler-esque, Beckonian, Feeley, Lucas-Mucas and the Dante's inferno QB play of the last decade plus. May Flynn reverse the Brees curse

Something tells me you have no idea what I think. The fact is that I have stated on here numerous times that I would rather see the Dolphins draft RG3 over Luck. In fact I have also stated that there were only 3 QB's I had an interest in seeing the Dolphins draft or sign in free agency, RG3,Luck, and Manning. If you are happy with the Dolphins going after a QB which only one other team seems to have any interest in, so be it.

I would rather the Dolphins stick with Matt Moore in 2012 and do whatever is necessary to be able to draft Matt Barkley in the 2013 draft.

If you want to just settle for Moore in 2012 and go after Barkley in 2013 tells me you have no interest in supporting the 2012 Miami Dolphins!

I would be fine going with Moore because I believe with a solid offensive line and defense he could easily take a team into the playoffs. Especially under the offensive coaching of Philbin.

I just hope any contract would be friendly to us cutting him after a couple years if things don't work out, just in case he doesn't pan out. Either way you gotta like us actually going out and getting a guy.

Not to sound too negative, but 6-6 as a starter for us is ok, not great. Also, he fizzled out once he got the nod in Carolina...partly due to some injuries, but partly due to just fizzling out... I like MMoore, but not enamored. Flynn has Philbin's endorsement and face it, Philbin's legacy here as HC will ride on Flynn and JP knows that, so he must be comfortable enough to move on with him... We'll see how it goes...
