It's funny though, last season when we were looking for backups or competition for Henne, people were outraged when we wound up with Matt Moore over studs like Vincve Young, Leinart, etc.

    Really?

The guy we hired as HC who worked w/Flynn for years might not really tell the FO what he thinks of him?

    Come on.

I just see no reason why the team would have brought Flynn in if he weren't coveted by Philbin. It would be doing Flynn a favor and driving his price up on the Seahawks, a team Miami shouldn't really care about at all since they're on the opposite coast and in the NFC. It just doesn't make sense.

I was open to Flynn but understood the risks.

In general, give me an unknown quantity over a known mediocre quantity. Nothing about Alex Smith is remotely impressive. He has demonstrated his mediocrity. Dare I call him Jay Fiedler? I actually loved Jay, but it was because he was cheap. Bringing in Jay Fiedler on a big contract (something in the neighborhood of what Flynn got which is apparently the SF offer) would have been insanity.

They didn't think he was worth the money or that impressive that they had to have him, but they were interested enough to bring him in and meet with him. Makes perfect sense.

Am I the only one who foolishly thought that the Dolphins were going to change this year?

Not upset here. I watched highlights of flynn. Took two minutes. Because he's only had two games. Is anything he's done, that impressive? I'm no guru, not claiming to be. But damn if that game against detroit look unimpressive to me.

Maybe I would have taken another look, but he's with Seattle now so I won't even bother.

That seems far fetched to me and in fact almost insulting to the fanbase if indeed that was their thought. In fact, that smacks of covering up for losing out on Manning given the obvious serious interest shown by the Seahawks. If the interest was casual as is being suggested, it wasn't worth meeting with the man. That paints a picture of a front office that doesn't know **** from shinola.

I'm sure he did. My point was how much it actually weighed on the decision in comparison with how much Flynn wanted from us, and the fact is we don't really know what Philbin said. I just wish I did

    lol Why?

That's total speculation and your opinion.

To me it looks like meeting with every FA QB in order of interest. That's pretty logical imo.

First of all, I'm sharing my opinion here? Stunning. What do you think this forum is here for?

I think your point about meeting with FA QBs in order of interest actually cuts in favor of what I am suggesting is happening. The team just lost out on its two top QB prospects when QB is a supposedly serious focus of this team this offseason. That isn't a pretty picture to have painted.

As opposed to sharing facts, yes.

You make it sound like bc they meet with someone that automatically means they'll do whatever to sign them, which is dead wrong, imo.

It's Fisher all over again with this fanbase.

Then again they were trading for Charlie Whitehurst and banking on Tavaris Jackson long before this offseason.

Nope. I didn't want Jeff Fisher, didn't want Peyton Manning or Matt Flynn and I don't want Alex Smith. I'm kind of pissed about not getting Eric Winston but other than that the off season is pretty much what I expected. The only QB's I wanted were Luck and Griffin. I guess if Tannehill falls to 8 I could get on board but I'm skeptical.

Maybe the fact that we have so many other holes to fill on each side of the ball that our draft picks are key. IMO... Aside from Luck and RG3, im not sold on anyone in this draft. If I was going to gamble, I'd rather gamble signing a FA like Flynn to a real manageable contract, rather than taking my chances with a draft pick. At least if I sign the FA, I've got all my picks to play with, especially my first rounder to actually go out and make this team better in all areas.

Perhaps Miami brought in Flynn to help drive up his value by getting other teams thinking that if Philbin likes Flynn enough for Miami to bring him in then he must have some worth, and by doing so we got another team competing for a QB to sign someone we may have actually had little interest in signing.

You make it out to be as if everything is honest and as it appears, but that's not the case this time of year. It could've been nothing more than smoke and mirrors to help give us a better shot at Tannehill (or even Smith if they so feel he's worth it).

You mean who would I want out of what was out there this offseason?

I was all for Manning at a reasonable price, which was promptly blown out of the window w/that $90 million report.

Flynn I was/am skeptical on bc of the tiny sample size of what he's done. My logic was Philbin would know so if he's really sold on him, we'd get him. I was cool w/that but I hoped we wouldn't overpay. Didn't happen so no problem there.

I'm fine w/keeping Moore as opposed to Smith or the rest of the crap left on the market.

Tanny and Weedon are ehhh. I hope they don't reach for either but if they end up with one, I'll reserve my opinion to see what they do with them.

I see/saw very few options for us at QB so my general idea is improve the rest of the team instead of overpaying or reaching when the talent isn't there.

I mostly Agree, although obviously I was pulling for the Flynn/Philbin connection thing, but it is what it is, heh.

I like what i've seen of Weeden a great amount, if only he was a bit younger, but if that was the case he wouldn't be as easy of a steal. I'm pretty underwhelmed and scared of Smith/Tanny so you are probably right at this point.

Filling the holes is the plan.. I just hope it gets DONE.

Non QB holes that is :tongue2:

I've never been prouder to have been a "Suck for Luck" member. Why couldn't they just lose those meaningless games to the Chiefs, Deadskins and Bills....

Nothing to do with Flynn really, I didn't care for him. Its just funny we may be starting Matt Moore or David Garrard...

wanna bet? or are you just overreacting like everyone else here?

the person who doesn't overreact like 90% of this board can see that they clearly liked FLynn enough to bring him in, but weren't willing to overpay for his above-average talent (similar to Moore's IMO) when there are clearly a couple more decent QB options available in Tannehill and Weeden.
They still have 2 shots: draft Tannehill or trade down to get Weeden.

We'd be foolish to not meet with every QB since doing so would only give us less negotiation ammo regarding a future contract. If we only meet with the QB we want, it gives him more control during negotiation.
