He was AZ's defensive mvp last year in his first year playing more at FS. That's pretty impressive, imo.

That would hold true if we were talking about a legitimate franchise QB whom others are measured by, but I don't see how trying to make Flynn seem more desirable greatly affects what Smith signs for b/c Alex still isn't the only option out there. There's still the draft, and the reduced rookie wage scale should help to keep Smith's price from getting crazy just as it may have influenced Flynn's.

QBs in the draft are also in the mix of "unsigned QBs out there", and Flynn's value going up has no impact on their dollar value.

Surely we would've been "fantastic", too, in attempt to woo Flynn if we badly wanted him.

As far as I know he transitioned from CB more towards FS. CK had a good thread on it somewhere around here.

No but I'd personally be shocked if we sat Smith to play Marshall at CB and god knows who at FS.

He could've been our fall back date to the prom, the one we're less excited about but would've taken cheaply if our top choice hand fallen through.

Occasionally I'll buy something on sale that I might've otherwise not, so perhaps we were looking for a bargain but unwilling to enter a bidding war when another player of great interest whom our OC is familiar with is still available and will cost half that of Flynn while possessing a significantly higher upside than Matt. Perhaps they felt Flynn would be "settling" when a guy like Tannehill is reasonably obtainable, especially now that we have all our draft picks plus an extra 3rd this year and next to maneuver with. It's possible the Marshall trade was to provide us such maneuver ability and cap space so that if we had to trade up we'd still have picks and cap space left to build the team.

Its a possibility, a shocker to me none the less. I would still be hard pressed to think this was all revolved around Tannehill though. have to wait and see what happens with all the Smith stuff.

Heard a rumor we are looking to sign smith to a contract that pays him 8 million annual. More than what Flynn got. This has to be a joke. If you don't believe me go to rotoworld.

I like Tannehill more than Flynn, but we're still taking a risk in assuming he will be here.
and if we had signed Flynn we'd have more flexibility in adressing our needs through the draft.

All Ireland has done is create a huge hole for this team without adressing any needs. The man is an undeniable moron.

Rotoworld is good for facts, but anything that's a rumor they spin to make us look stupid. Every time.

Why would the Denver post be reporting this?

Like paying a QB who's played a game and a half $24 million and then passing on QBs in the draft isn't a risk?

Didn't we have different coaches last year and the year before? Just saying. IMO "wanting him" enough to acquire him as a bargain isn't the same thing as "wanting him" enough to where we'll sign him at all costs and are jumping for joy at the mere thought of it.

When I buy clothes, I try on more things than I actually buy.
Just taking it into the fitting room doesn't mean you'll buy it or love wearing it. Perhaps it's on sale and you merely want to check it out. Perhaps you buy it b/c the sale price is too enticing to resist where as at the suggested retail price you stick it back on the shelf.

F*** the offseason. I'm tired of the drama. I feel like I'm watching a freaking soap opera this offseason, not an NFL team. Don't feel like reading, investing my time or even caring about anything until the season starts. Tired of the same old crap here.

I dont recall his exact words... but it was that they acted as if they were doing him a favor, were poor hosts compared to others, and lowballed him, just didnt treat him well.

Make jokes about the FO not treating him well all you want... it matters to these guys. A professional athletes ego needs stroking more than many others in the world.

Wasn't Miami the only other team he visited? And ya I'm not shocked that someone who thought he was worth more than we did didn't like our FO.

The ones that are babies maybe. Then again who needs a baby on your team?

Regardless of what any of us do or don't think about Tannehill, Ireland, Philbin, and Sherman might secretly be drooling over him, and that's what matters most. What better way to help drive down or combat the growing adoration of Tannehill than to have the team his previous HC is on "appear" to be pursuing other options? Ditto goes for Alex Smith by bringing in Flynn first.

Knowing how secretive and closely to the vest this team plays both FA and the draft, it wouldn't surprise if they were practicing a little subterfuge.

Oh please, the consistent theme with our FO has been there all along... In a nutshell its, they undervalue you, make sure you know it, lowball you a deal, and then you go elsewhere with it and get yourself more to a team that actually appreciates and pretends they want you. Our current organizational structure is ok with the ideal of... here's our offer. If you dont like it, too bad, we'll move on to plan B, which is quite worse off for us... but we're not giving you want you're worth, just what we think you are worth.

You dont win in this league being that safe. Sure you have to do things within reason, but you cant just turn your nose up at everyone who wants a little bit more. Instead of playing the numbers game all the time, you have to have some passion and some conviction in a choice you decide to make in investing in a player... when you show a player you want him, he's more keen to come. When you show you're interested 110%, that sometimes goes a long way in a guy deciding to take your offer over someone who may be offering less... being a prick, doesn't make you a great business person. Afterall... this is a business here.
