Alex Smith would prefer SF over Miami even for more money.

What the hell is going on we offer more money and even backup duty sounds better than Miami

A piece of me just died inside. I really like the fit of Smith here with Philbin. Come on Alex...from a fellow Alex.

Although since the media has been wrong about EVERYTHING this offseason it may be good news to me

And Option C says no. Will David Garrard turn us down too? Here's hoping.

If we sign David Garrard I might go live with some Bears (real ones not Chicago) and hibernate through the season.

The only thing worse would be Tebow. At least we still have Matt Moore.

We just need to stop and announce Matt's the QB were looking more and more like assclowns with each failure. Maybe it's a good sign and Ross will finally see Ireland needs to be dealt with

If we sign Tebow I'm going to have to pretend to be super religious and convince him his services are needed somewhere outside of the NFL. The world needs you Tebow...Miami will be okay without you.

amusing how people are so concerned about the perception. Settling on Matt Moore and announcing he's our man would make us look significantly more stupid than looking inept and then drafting someone like Tannehill or Weeden. what you're describing is exactly what they did ith Sparano

Good. Matt Moore IS Alex Smith for christ sakes.

Best option is to stop screwing around with bust QB's and draft one. Just make sure they pick the right one!

Am I the only one who read the quote?

It says if SF gets Manning, he'll sign with Miami. If not, he'll go back to the Niners.

Basically, the exact opposite of the thread title.

You people do not believe me. Jeff Ireland is worse then having the plague. What is it going to take for everyone to realize Ross and Ireland are about the worst combo in recent history in the NFL. BELIEVE ME. Besides, whats it tell you about them tryint to lure in a QB that is not even as good, IMO, as Matt Moore ?

Cmon, this is a joke now with these two clowns. Parcels and Tony must be getting drunk laughing so hard.

Fix the title. It doesn't say he would rather be a backup. It says he is the 9ers backup plan. He will wait to see where Peyton lands first. Jeez

I can see the headlines now:

Ryan Tannehill after being selected by the Miami Dolphins with the #8 pick in the 2012 NFL draft has decided rather than signing a contract to play for the Dolphins to pursue a career as a grocery clerk at Safeway in his hometown.

To insinuate that he would rather be our backup because he doesn't want to be here is no different then what the media is doing.

Why have you lost respect for him? I think he's earned the right to at least weigh out the options best suited for him and his family. Maybe you're just too young to understand that concept?

I have lost respect for him simply because he is dragging the process out. He knows which teams are interested in him. He knows what they are offering him. Yet he is dragging them around like a stick through mud. He has handicapped EVERY SINGLE TEAM interested in him because they can't really make any moves until he makes a decision. Minus Denver who has the cap to do whatever they want.

This is such a joke! It has been almost 30 years since the Fins have drafted a QB in the 1st round. Maybe this is the football god's telling us we must go through the draft and nab Tannehill or Weeden and let Moore lead the way this year. I'm really getting tired of all this nonsense! We are a laughing stock.......

Mods, can you please change this misleading thread title?
This is an obviously blatant attempt to slander Miami's FO which is consistent with this poster's recent responses in numerous other threads.

The title should say what Smith referenced--- that he'd rather stay in California even if it means being Manning's backup.

"According to Jason Cole, Smith will not sign with the Dolphins unless the Niners sign Manning."

Have i lost my mind or does this quote not say the exact opposite of what the thread title said?

Edit: a few people who read the article beat me to it...
