Really? You'd think we'd get one of the 4 coveted QBs this offseason then. But we've failed. We are still leaderless.
Well gosh there Vinny, Manning did not wish to sign here, and we could not afford his 5 yr contract, and Flynn wanted more then we were willing to pay, of course we could have made a run at Vince Young instead. For some reason, all pro Qb's just do not hit free agency.
you can only kill yourself one, my man.... unless you want someone to dump the other few gallons on your corpse for good measure.
They talked with each QB and were in contract negotiations with a couple. How is that not prioritizing the QB position?
Exactly. For me, this isn't about the player signed. It's about the tenor of this entire offseason so far. If it's all posturing as some defend, they need to just stop. Their posturing sucks. It also paints a legitimate negative picture of the franchise, which is pretty much par for the course these days.
I'm sick of rebuilding. Any chance we can actually build on what we've got, improve, win games and make the Playoffs? I'm freekin sick of rebuilding.
I can live w/MMoore, I can live with David Garrard, relying on Gates is the height of foolishness and is setting up either one to fail this yr. Pumping throws into Anthony Fasano is not going to win you many football games, we need more impact players.
We only carried 2 QBs last year. Wonder if we cut Moore if we get tannehill. Or maybe this is it. I'm cool if we draft Weeden
How bad is it, that everyone is *****ing and moaning about Garrard, who, throwing to a mostly terrible set of WR's has better numbers than almost anyone we've had for quite a while? He's no curtis painter. He ain't Manning either though.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I bet the reaction would be the same had they signed Smith to a 24 mil contract (although it would be warranted this time around, but still...).
Lowballing people (Flynn) and making ridiculous offers to others (Smith) outpaced by the ridiculous offers of other teams is not what I call making the position a priority.
Um yea... To be their ****ing backup... Geraldo might actually beat out Moore. And Daniel Thomas is probably our best QB option...
He's a QB who was not on a roster last season. I know he was statistically impressive in Jacksonville on occasion and was real football impressive on a somewhat less frequent basis. That was a surgery ago and in 2010 and earlier. On its own merits, it isn't a horrid signing. It's the complete picture a lot of us are reacting to.
Massive knee jerk reaction, bro. The last time I checked, using a #8 pick on a QB with a ton of upside and franchise potential does not fail to qualify as QB NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. Seriously man, chill out. I've never in my life seen a fan base complain so much about a team not using a 1st rounder on a QB and subsequently follow it in 180 fashion by complaining we're about to use our current 1st rounder on a QB, but that's somehow not good enough.
Thought our priority was updating the QB position. So looking at last year starter Henne, Back up Moore, 3rd string rosenfels? So as of now #1 ? 2# Moore, #3 Garrad? would u say its been upgraded? or to early to tell? where is that knee jerk pic ...
Here's why me and a too small amount of others think all of you are being emotional little girls: Last year when Garrard was released, people thought Jax was insane and many, many people thought we should bring him in: Link Now its a lynchable offense.
No need to be hostile. The rest of your post is also nonsense. Garrard will also be the backup and he's tons better than Stanton.
You have your best defensive player, Cameron Wake... openly questioning what the team is doing in public (twitter) and people are saying this isn't a ****show?
My fiancées brother who is a jets fan just asked me if we wanted Brunell for a bag or practice balls to help compete for the starting gig
I don't understand the uproar over this. The only thing this does is replace/upgrade what we had in Henne. He has a career QB rating of 85.8 and except for his rookie season, has always thrown more TD's than INT's. This also shows we're getting our franchise QB in the draft.
What doesn't get talked about is the wonderful job IRISH has done managing our cap since he canned weidemeyer
Uhh, not to point out the obvious here, but you DO realize that the DRAFT is a part of the offseason, and it's actually the DRAFT where teams typically find their QB of the future?
Seeing as how free agency is still in its early stages and the draft has not yet happened and the season is about 5 months away ... i think we can atleast wait and see what happens before we take out the pitch forks.
Ooh, then Ireland could move somebody in a trade for Leftwich with the Steelers and we could have the whole set of Jags QBs of the past!
It's really quite funny to read, if it weren't so painful in just the lack of any thought going into responses. Garrard reminds me a bit of Pennington in that he is a healthy, proven, veteran Qb, but one would think he was Curtis Painter and drano should now be consumed. I believe the trading of Marshall was more of a problem then signing Gerrard, in fact I think signing Garrard is our best move at Qb since signing Pennington, but without a #1 guy at Wr, who is he throwing the ball to?
Not directed exactly at you. More towards the fact that at least the jests have their supposed franchise qb. Who is ours again? I wouldnt have minded A. Smith. But david garrard? Anyone else wondering why nobody else brought him in?
Eh, what this tells me is we are not going to see the Packers attack in 2012, we just do not have the personnel to pull it off, it should be more of a hybrid approach BUT Moore and Garrard are both good at running that style of offense.
Oh, I see. Ireland has been setting us up all the time so the rest of the NFL thinks this team is run by idiots so he can have a brilliant run the rest of this offseason and get this team a Super Bowl win. Don't hold your breath on that one. I'm starting to long for the days of Spielman. At least most of the questionable calls in the Wannstedt/Speilman era were demonstrated to be Dave's.
I love this master plan to address the qb position. The plan was to just wing it throughout the offseason and settle for what we can get.
And that's fine. Being mad at the offseason as a whole is one thing. But I mean, Garrard? We're not talking Leftwich here. We're talking garrard, who isn't that bad. If you throw more TD's than INT's usually you have a job in the NFL. Hell Henne had a job and he couldn't even do that It's a good signing, doesn't cost us anything, and perhaps the plan was all along, not to overpay in FA and go for one in the draft. How many FA franchise QBs have there been. Not many. Brees in recent memory.
Of course not, Section. Ireland is just getting warmed up and is going to own this mother****er from here on out. Didn't you just read that above?
