While Peter King may not be highly thought of here, he does touch on an excellent point. To be successful at anything, there needs to be continuity, which Miami has lacked since Shula and Marino retired. We can argue this until we are blue in the face but when you look at successes in anything there is always a core group that has been there for a while. Even the Yankees in the mid to late '90s had a core group that came through the ranks. Jeter, Posada, Pettite, Rivera were their core, they just added pieces through free agency. Who is Miami's core?

But this entire offseason has been judged by the FA and not the draft. So what does that tell you?

 

I now wish FA came after the draft every year.

And who is reading between the lines for something that isn't there? Isn't that equally silly? I never said that there will be continuity in March with a rookie HC who hasn't had his first draft yet. I can only hope that this is the start if Ireland is smart and steps back and listens to a guy who has been there.

 

That tells me as a fan base, we have been conditioned to grasp at straws in place of a plan.

What plan can they tell us? Who they are going for and how much they are willing to pay?

You're right, no team tells a plan word for word and dollar for dollar. They tell it by picking guys that fit what they do and not reaching in FA.
