Hey, maybe Moore is one of the guys Philbin was referring to regarding the current talent he liked. :dunno:
If great coaching can do it with Alex Smith, then why not with Matt Moore. I'm not saying he's my first choice over Tannehill, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Philbin came out and said Moore is a guy he sees some potential in and would like to work with for a year before make a major decision at QB.

    Ignorance....that is cute.

No, I don't believe there is a franchise qb left in this draft past the #2 pick. I am not sold on either Tannehill or Weeden. Imo, Cousins might have he most upside of the qbs we can select. But none of the options get me excited.

LMAO! Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Not a specfic trait cited nor one mention of what specifcally Harbaugh did that the previous 49er coach failed to do, other than be "great" apparently.

.... and I respect the fact that those guys don't get you specifically excited, but even the greatest talent assessors are occasionally wrong, so I see little reason to criticize this team for not finding a QB when the draft has yet to happen and the season has yet to play out.

Just b/c Miami has taken some lumps recently doesn't mean a QB we draft can't turn out better than the late round Flynn under Philbin & Sherman's tutelage.
What if, just what if a guy like Tannehill turns out to be an elite QB? If we draft him and he becomes the franchise guy some believe capable, will we still be complaining that we didn't get our franchise QB?

Using a #8 pick on Tannehill would be considered a splash. Just b/c some fans might not prefer him as the "splash" Miami was referring to, it doesn't make it any less of a splash. A #8 pick on a QB is an undeniable splash, period. Tannehill scares me a little, but my gosh his intangibles and potential are outstanding, and he's the type of guy you look for as a leader, leader by example, and face of a franchise.

Please don't tell me I need to list why Harbaugh was a drastic improvement over Singletary for it to be accepted.
Sorry, but I'm not being baited into that just to humor you.
However, if you'd like to list reasons why San Fran's success had nothing to do with Harbaugh, I'll gladly listen and respond.

I take it then you believe Don Shula had no affect on our history's success? :dunno:

I'm not complaining. I'm merely pointing out the fact that when a person makes a bold proclamation, such as Ireland did, and then does not fulfill the expectation that he himself has created...well, that's a recipe for mutiny. I'm not saying all his moves are wrong and he's a horrible GM. I'm simply saying that the gathering storm in front of him is to be expected.

Ireland is like a guy at a bar who hits on everything with a pulse, gets rejected by a half dozen women before finally landing the "grenade" and then going back to his friends while bragging about how she's the one he wanted all along. He flirted with Peyton. He tried to trade for RG3. He offered contracts to both Flynn and Alex Smith. He signed training camp competition in Garrard. Now, he may or may not have been targeting Tannehill or Weeden the whole time, but if he drafts one of them and proclaims to the fans, "see, I told you my 5th choice was going to make a splash" its simply going to ring hollow after trying to sign so many guys in free agency.

    You are complaining.

He can draft a QB at #8 and that would be splash. Who you think he should draft has nothing to do with it being a splash.

I mean golly, did you ever even tell him who you wanted him to acquire?

I'm not quite sure what you think I'm complaining about given the fact that I haven't mentioned what I would have done, nor have I mentioned how his decision to sign/not sign a particular player was good or bad.

I was merely expressing my opinion that his decision to flirt with every available QB is ultimately the thing that seems to have landed him in hot water. But perhaps opinions are not welcome here?

Don't hurt yourself on that cross.

You said Ireland didn't come through with his promise of making a splash for a QB during the offseason. I submit to you the off season is far from over and he never said he was going to make the splash in FA.

You ignore that and pretend the guys he could draft at 8 wouldn't be a splash in your book.

Therefore, you are complaining that Ireland didn't bring in who you think qualifies as a splash. That's why I was curious if you ever told Ireland who you think qualifies as a splash before you hold him responsible on a forum by voicing your opinion.

Luckily I am neither Tim Tebow nor a vampire, so I am immune to crosses.

I suppose it depends on your definition of what constitutes "a splash." To me, that tends to imply that he has a plan. I just don't think that trying to sign every available QB is much of a plan.

How did he NOT fulfill it when we're not evan at the draft yet? Cmon now.

Everyone keeps dodging this question? Will you be the first to answer it?

Again, I can profess a major desire to bump uglies with Rhona Mitre but if it doesn't happen, does that make me I liar?

Instead of being pissed that Ireland hasn't "delivered" upon his intended desire so far, how about being excited that he's a GM who DOES want to address it but at the same time is smart enough to not desperately throw a $60+ million hail mary to Kevin Kolb, starter money at Orton, or a possible 2012 1st rounder to trade up for Gabbert, Locker, or Ponder.

Attempting to make a splash does NOT mean that you actually make one, and so far, NOT attempting a splash has been the best thing for us; meanwhile most teams who DID try to make a splash last year have either failed or made less of a splash than our inexpensive Matt Moore. So how about a little benefit of the doubt?

When did Ireland ever promise a "splash"? To say such things doesn't seem to be in his DNA. I know he has said we need to upgrade the play at the QB position but that's a far cry from "splash".

What about a right cross, like in your avatar? :shifty:

Who said he tried to sign every QB? Did he tell you that himself? And who is "every" QB? Please name them.

Did this suddenly become a league where football contracts and millions of dollars invested in a player have no bearing? Are you dishing out millions of your own money for a player? If this organization shows an interest in a player but does not feel his value is worth his asking price, that does not mean we failed in signing him or that we were too cheap or scared to do so, but that's always the fan's excuse when his team doesn't listen to him as if Ireland has hired him as his personal consultant. But you know what, if he hired me instead, I would've told him to not pay Flynn what he was asking, so get over your ego, Fame.

Miami has a massive fan base (most of which isn't on speed dial), and not all of them share the same opinion, so there is absolutely NO way Ireland can appease all the fans b/c we only have 1 1st rounder, a salary cap, and can't exceed our 53 man roster. Where you call for his head, I like what he's done, and the season hasn't played out yet for either of us to feel validated or not, so I'd rather be an objective and rational fan who uses logic than an prematurely irrational one who throws logic out the window.

    I'll take the bait.

Would you install the air coryelle offense or hire Mike Martz to be your OC if your quarterback was Chad Pennington? Not sure if you will be able to see the relevance in my question but it is there. Figure it out.

In a world of opposites where optimism becomes pessimism, logical becomes illogical, premature becomes punctual, and irrational becomes sane, then yeah, you'd probably be right.

If it's a "rant" to suggest the ranters to relax by using a logic based example, one which parallels our current team entering 2012, then I'm guessing the mods will move it to the rant section. If it's not moved, then I guess that would make your opinion wrong. Heck, I'll even report the thread myself to make sure the mods are aware of it. :wink2:

    I agree and disagree.

I think Tannenhill is a project QB that should in all reality go in the second or third round, but with Barkley going back to USC and the top prospects going one and two he has become a product of wanting to believe in something that isn't there.

The draft is always a gamble. Hell, there's a chance Luck will suck (ok a small one but its still there).

Look on the bright side, Sherman was his coach. Sherman was also a mentor of Philbin. Chances are they are on the same page about what they can work when it comes to QBs. If we draft Tanny, then at least the odds are in our favor, though it will still be a risk.

I respectfully dont feel that way. With or without Barkley, I've believed that if Tannehill had been a QB all along and with the coaching to go with it, he'd be viewed as a top 5 pick in virtually any draft, and IMO he's less of a reach in the top 10 than Locker, and I personally think his upside is higher than Gabbert, Ponder, or Dalton's.

Is the top 10 a little high for him based on his lack of experience? Probably yes. Does that mean he's not top 10 talent? Not in my eyes it doesn't. Matt Moore proved last year that he's more successful than most rookie QBs can be, so I personally don't have a problem letting Moore start for a year or even 2 while Tannehill develops. So in that regard I dont mind using a top 10 on Tannehill b/c the only reason I wouldn't do it is if we needed the rookie to start immediately. Not saying I'm right with any of this, but that's just what I believe.

I'm not saying he won't succeed but I don't believe he has anywhere near the raw physical talent of Cam Newton. For what it is worth I'm not convinced Cam Newton will turn out to be a franchise QB either despite his success last season. I'm not saying he won't be but it is very possible he takes a step backwards.

Anyway to the original point, yes every singe player is a gamble. I just feel Tannenhill is an even bigger gamble than most because he is nowhere near being ready to play an NFL game at QB. I say it takes minimum three years before you even know what you MIGHT have in him. This is the one draft I am perfectly fine not going after a QB early on.

  28. PS Matt Moore is the next Tom Brady and Philibin is the next Shula I have no evidence of this you guys just to need to trust my gut cause its something I know. Anyone who does not believe me is irrational and stupid. This is how it works, right Todd?

    Oh, I see.

So before it was Ireland's definition of splash was different than yours, now its his definition of plan. I'll go ahead and ask, did you tell Ireland what you think a plan should be before you held him responsible?

This isn't quite as bad as bad as you think it is.

When a Peyton manning becomes available, you go after him. Its irresponsible not too. Check.

Didn't get him, ok back to the plan, get a veteran for back up. Alright we have a choice between Flynn & Garrard....no wait Smith called he may become available. Ok he fits the veteran back up criteria. Lets talk to Flynn first, at least he knows the offense. Offer each one the lowest they'll accept because they're nothing more than insurance and most likely be 3rd on the depth chart. Check.

Now we just got to draft our guy.

See the problem is you assume they were looking for a starter in FA. They weren't unless they got Manning, which again its Peyton Effing Manning. 2 deep playoff teams were willing to **** can their QBs for him.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it certainly is as plausible as your scenario of no plan , ireland sucks, world is over.

The prematurely irrational pessimist rules out Harbaugh as ever becoming Harbaugh.
The unrealistic optimist guarantees Harbaugh becomes the next Harbaugh.
The realist logically mentions that it's quite possible Harbaugh becomes the next Harbaugh.

No, the difference is you'd rather create a thread that puts down the organizations' so called "ineptitude and imminent failure" while discrediting Philbin's potential to have a Harbaugh type impact despite FA not being done, the draft yet to come, and not so much of a preseason game being played. That sounds like the definition pessimism to me.

Todd, I can't agree with you more! We aren't really in any worse shape now than we were last year. Henne missed all but 4 losses, JT didn't pressure QB's as he used to, Langford underachieved as well. I MUST admit that losing Bell hurt, but hopefully we replace him well. The negativity about getting a QB has haunted every Dolphin forum since Dan retired. From the Herald, through the insider and Finheaven and to every other board on the web. Realistically though, Manning would've been ridiculously expensive for a stop-gap who COULD get injured at any time, or simply not play as well as he used to. Flynn while impressive in his two games, has only two starts. Paying him what Seattle did would've been a huge risk, as well as alot of money. Same thing for Alex Smith. I'm not a fan of the Garrard signing, but I'm willing to keep an open mind about it.

I can't understand some of the people embarrassing the team to vent their frustrations. No airplane banner or twenty-man protest will get Ireland fired, but it WILL be used as a symbol of what kind of fans the team has...

The problem is that you're twisting my opinions to fit into the mold of the "fire Ireland" crowd simply because its convenient to label me as such in order to dismiss me. I never said Ireland "sucks." Nor did I imply the sky was falling. I'm simply critical of the way he handled this particular situation, but I don't think it needs to end with his immediate demise. I don't subscribe to the notion that Ireland screwing up his search and keeping his job are mutually exclusive.

Granted, I hope Ireland does indeed have something up his sleeve, and if he does love Tannehill I hope they grab him and he turns out to be amazing. I'm just skeptical of the plan boiling down to a talented, but very raw project or a 28 year old rookie. It seems to me that Peyton was the plan, and it just didn't work out. Now they're trying to salvage the situation as best they can.
