We lost out on Fisher because Ross did his homework. The research suggested that the chances of being successful in the NFL is to have a GM and a Coach. Coach/GM's generally fail.

Smoots letter was based on pure speculation, your opinion based on assumptions (just like everyone else). But IMO, the fire-Ireland side is doing a helluva lot more speculation. You're assuming Moore's the starter, but if we draft a rookie QB and have Moore, Garrard and Tannehill (hopefully) then you have absolutely zero idea who our starter will be come september. But you go ahead and stand on your little box and shout all these reasons why Ireland should be fired. yet only a few of those reasons are actually true and established.

and guess what? almost all GMs in NFL have a crowd of fans screaming for their heads because there are truly only a handful of elite teams with really good GMs.
the rest of the NFL has GMs that have hits and misses. The CLB of each team tends to focus on only the mistakes.
If we can get the next great GM candidate to come down and manage this team, I'll step right into line. But to fire Ireland and hope we can find a replacement is short-sighted and plain stupid, ignorant, overreactionary and any other adjective you want to throw in there.

I don't believe that. I don't believe it at all. I believe it was out of loyalty to Ireland. But again, why not just come out and say that? Another problem with this FO. They are HORRIBLE at communicating with the fans.

If we draft Tannehill, there's no way he starts right away. He's simply not ready. I think CK or Boomer or someone else could speak better to that but I don't think he's ready right now. He may be soon, but I think it would be a stretch to throw him in there Week 1, Sherman here or no.

Brian Gaine would appear to be a very capable replacement of Jeff Ireland.

What was your point? That Peyton didn't want to play for this franchise but if he did I wouldn't be so upset at this franchise? Was that your point? I'm not sure you made a point.

I think you're misinterpreting Ireland and Ross.

Peyton's available? Lets convince gullible fans we have a chance at him so they buy season tickets.

Flynn's available? Lets convince gullible fans we want him so they buy season tickets.

Can the draft hurry up and come. I'm tired of the Ireland BS. People defending him bashing people trashing him and likewise. Nobody's opinion is changing, so why continue beating the dead horse. If anything this elitist view from fans who believe they are "smarter/better/truer/realer" because they hold an opposing view is killing the board and causing some poster's to take a hiatus. Both sides are right and wrong. Let's come to a common ground. This has to be Ireland's make or break season. No qb, no playoffs, no more Ireland. Yes qb or Yes playoffs I will admit Ireland deserves to stay.

They're in blackout mode right now. Season ticket sales are in the low 40,000's. They've lost over 30,000 season ticket holders in the last 5 years.

Season tickets are in the low 40,000 and they have lost 30,000? So the stadium seats over 70,000 people?

Just kidding, how many have they gained in the last 5 years? What is the average loss in comparison to the rest of the league? How much of the loss is due to the product on the field and how much is due to other circumstances, like the economy?

    Direction.

If you need a QB and a Peyton Manning comes available you go after that player, its criminal not too, and you do it regardless of what plan or direction you have. I can back up that logic by pointing out Denver & SanFran doing exactly that. regardless of what they did or had going on, they went after Manning.

After that, is it really hard to believe their plan was to bring in a vet and draft for the future? That they really didn't feel there was a chasm of difference between Flynn, Moore, Garrard, Smith, so take whoever sets you back the least in terms of money? Is that insane? Am I reaching? Is that really less likely than Ireland winging it? Look at what we signed Garrard for if you need evidence. 1 year non guaranteed. That's not starter money. That's not gambling your franchise on. The reports were that we were making a low offer to Flynn. Is it more likely we didn't see him as starter material or more likely Ireland was like, "this guy could the savior, so lets low ball him"?

    C'mon, man.....

It's called the hand that Parcells dealt him, you know--- the one where virtually every coach Parcells started us with was incompetent and thus fired.... the same hand that controlled the early parts of the draft who brought in guys like Merling, Pat White, and Koa Misi when players like Rob Gronkowski, Connor Barwin, Jordy Nelson, Brandon Flowers, Curtis Lofton, who were all drafted immediately after us.

It's kinda difficult to improve an organization while Parcells is busy capsizing it. 1 year of full control isn't enough time to pull it back out of water and shine it up again.

    Let's look at the comparisons:

Parcells: Dan Henning. (FIRED. 20+ years of averaging 20th in offensive scoring.)
Ireland: Brian Daboll. (Opposite of Dan Henning. Young, inspiring, adaptive, hands on, doesn't preach "play to not make mistakes", and lets his guys try and make plays rather than chastising them as they reach the sideline for throwing a jump ball to Brandon Marshall.)

Parcells: John Bonamego, ST coordinator. (Fired)
    Ireland: Darren Rizzi. (drastic improvement)

Parcells: David Lee, QB coach. (Fired. Great job developing Henne, White, and Thigpen. :glare:).
Ireland: Karl Dorrell. (Matt Moore, enough said.)

    Parcells: Paul Pasqualoni, DC. (fired)
    Ireland: Mike Nolan. (immediate improvement)

Parcells: Patrick Turner (Cut. slow possession receiver)
Ireland: Clyde Gates (burner with playmaking ability)

Parcells: Jalen Parmele & Lex Hilliard (2 big possession style running backs)
Ireland: Reggie Bush & Daniel Thomas (2 versatile backs with more playmaking ability)

Parcells: John Nalbone (blehh. not 1 NFL reception)
Ireland: Charles Clay (versatile Hback with some playmaking ability)

Parcells: (big lumbering linemen, injury history or not, we'll take em)
Ireland: Mike Pouncey (more athletic lineman to help transform the offense)

    Parcells: loud mouth Joey Porter
    Ireland: Cam Wake

And none of this included the fired Head Coach, previously hand-picked by Parcells himself.

I agree there's no way he starts this year. So do you not take a QB you think could be the future, because you don't think he's ready to start immediately?

    Or

Do go at the season with the vet you already had and another vet you brought in for the least amount possible to get though the year?

Ireland hasn't done that bad of a job. He has built us a top ten defense and when offensive playmakers have been available he has done what it takes to get them (Bush and Marshall). Not every player in the NFL wants to play for Miami. Every team gets turned down. Stop looking for a scapegoat and actually look at the situation with a clear head. Ireland hasn't found a franchise QB? He hasn't passed on any either. You can only buy what ingredients are found at the store. I can't send you to toys-r-us and expect you to bring me back garlic cloves. If the shelf at the store is empty how do you bring the item back? You don't. Sometimes what you need isn't readily available.

As previously stated, Ireland should've been fired last year.

The vet is fine. But don't do **** on the fly. Stick to the plan. Don't bother bringing in Matt Flynn (especially because Philbin didn't want him anyway, because if Philbin wanted him he'd be a Dolphin right now). Don't sign David Garrard and cut Yeremiah Bell. Don't trade away your best offensive player. Don't leave a gaping hole at RT. Don't let Mark Anderson go to Buffalo when you have a clear need for another 3-4 DE. Don't give me the impression as a fan that you're just winging it, waiting for something to fall in your lap like it did with Pennington.

We're no closer to winning now than we were 4 years ago. I see no reason to consider Ireland as a keeper. It is not even the Flynn, or Fisher misses, its the Marshall fiasco. His decision to bring him in despite the baggage, for the price he paid, and then the 50% price he got in return. Awful.

How I feel when I hop on this board. I admit this is my first offseason here but is it always like this? A lot of people wanted Henne gone. Done, Henne is gone. A lot of people wanted Sparano gone, poof, done. He works for the Jets now. People wanted Joe Philbin, and the FO and ownership got him.

Now enter Free Agency, everyone says "sign Manning yesterday" and the FO tried and failed. Next up is Matt Flynn, based off of 2 games against subpar NFL defenses(still merits a look), and an in with his former OC here. Swing and a miss by the FO. Oh, yeah, flirting with a scorned Alex Smith, not a great idea TBQH. People are pissed at these attempts and say it shows incompetence without full disclosure of all details, which will NEVER come out unless someone works for the team on this board, or someone bugs the offices. Enter David Garrard, who(again pure speculation) is signed for a shot to start. Admittedly, not the most overwhelming signing, and the jury is still out on this, but people want Ireland's head on a like outside the stadium for this and what else? My god, he is for all intents and purposes a 2nd-3rd year GM. The guy is gonna make mistakes. Guess what? ALL GMs make mistakes, or appear incompetent to fan bases! We have absolutely ZERO idea of the inner dialogue going on between the ownership, FO and staff!!!!! We can base opinions off of what is done through FA, personnel moves, and the draft, so far only 2/3s of this process is done. Let it all play out, THEN make a judgment. I have to remind myself of this daily, especially reading threads like this.

I realize that this is an outlet for people, but c'mon....everyone is better than this. Stop making snap judgments based off only a part of the picture. Quit focusing on the negative, find a positive for once. We didn't overpay for potential damaged goods(Manning), didn't overpay for an unknown(Flynn), traded away a weapon who forgot his job description and smacked his ladies around more than he caught TD passes(Marshall), got a new coach who comes from a spot where there's an excellent offensive track record.

Here is a list of Free Agency moves that have been made.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/miami-dolphins/transactions.html

    Which moves really suck here?

Go ahead call me a sunshine pumper, Ireland Jock Sniffer, whatever cute(read:stupid) names you come up with. Let the whole offseason play out.....

" Its been really annoying that all the pro-Ireland people are coloring those who want him out as "reactionary" or "chicken-littles"."

It's equally annoying that anybody who DARES to debate any of the "accusations" is called a "homer", "Ireland-lover", or worse. IMHO, Ireland does NOT have any true history to proclaim him as either extreme, but he sure has gotten a workout in his 2nd year as THE man!

great post, Laces.... and I'd go as far as saying only 2/5 of the process has played out if we're giving the actual season itself its due credit.

What's been going on around here (in my objective eyes) is equivalent to saying: "!!!!It's the first quarter and the score is tied, so damn you Miami for losing this game! Damn you to heck!! !!!WAH GRRR WAH!!!"

Some people are criticizing Ireland b/c they have their minds made up; therefore every decision he makes has to be a "terrible one" so that it aligns with their decision to dislike him and to validate their belief as being correct. They don't care about objectivity; they just care about making sure their hatred is justified.

I'd like to factually know what he's done to merit being fired after just one year of having full control as GM despite not even playing the 2012 season to know whether or not his decisions were right or wrong??? But no one seems to answer these. We get lots of opinions, but no facts. Where are the facts? SHOWWWW. MEEE. THHHE FAAAAACTS!!!! -Jerry McGuire
