It would be nice if we could trade down and pick him up as well as a QB like Weeden

This was on PFT by Evan Silva

Quarterback Andrew Luck is the headliner at Thursday’s Stanford Pro Day, but tight end Coby Fleener stole the early spotlight by ripping up the track and testing well throughout his workout.

Multiple reports had Fleener running in the mid-4.4s in the forty. ESPN’s Todd McShay had Fleener at 4.45, and so did CBS’ Bruce Feldman.

    Mayock’s stopwatch read 4.51, but it’s still a very fast time for a 6-foot-6, 247-pound human being.

“That is flying at 247,” said Mayock. Mayock also reported that Fleener had a 37-inch vertical and broad jump north of 10-feet. “They’re extremely athletic numbers,” Mayock added. “Those are defensive back, wide receiver-type numbers.”

For comparison, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski ran 4.65 with the wind and 4.73 against the wind at Arizona’s 2010 Pro Day. Gronkowski is the same height as Fleener, and 11 pounds heavier. But Fleener is much faster in a straight line.

In PFT’s first mock draft of the 2012 offseason, Fleener was the 29th overall pick.

gets me all tingly. Given the choice, I'd rather invest in an elite TE with good, fast WRs rather than a #1 WR and good TE, especially in a system like Philbin's.

I trust Ireland to get him, if not Fasano is as elite as they come.

Luck is not the star of his pro day. Every single GM knows he is going #1 and I doubt anyone is even watching him for that reason.

I wouldn't mind trading back and picking up Fleener along with an extra pick if there isn't a WR available we rate higher.

That makes no sense. You could probably trade back to 15 or so, still get Tannehill and acquire some picks so a trade up for Fleener wouldn't be as painful.

We need to come out of this draft with play makers, not grunts. It would be a great draft if we could come away with Fleener and Tannehill or Weeden. Of course we still need a pass rusher, right tackle and a guard a wide receiver...................

Imagine him stretching the middle of the field and then allowing for Brandon Marshall to get single coverage so he could take the top off the defense...

Okay I wanted to make sure you knew  I'm terrible at breaking bad news to people.

Anyway I'm alright without Marshall. Would love to have him but in our system his numbers will be replaceable by even a lesser talent as there will be less emphasis on one WR being "the guy"

I'm sold. Just get Alshon Jeffrey and Coby Fleener and I'll regard it as a solid draft.

I think out PL is set with Murtha at RT

I really only see a pass rusher and QB as the biggest needs with WRs and. Seam TE as secondary needs.

I don't think that will be possible. Come next month, I'll be worried Cleveland will draft Tannehill at #4.

It is possible, however looking at Holmgren's draft history, I do not think he is the type to reach on a quarterback.

Maybe not. Still I think the dolphins have to draft him at #8 if they want him.

Coby Fleener is a freak..The size speed ratio is off the charts, the athleticism is eloquent and explosive, the man can literally line up at flanker and get reps..Rip the seam, cut and deek at full speed..an absolute dynamic player, top 20 pick, been saying my strategy is to get in the first round twice, you wanna talk about a redone threat..

i for one am not hot to take a QB @ #8 .... and if we don't go impact DL/OLB, would prefer to drop down and get another 2d at worst. Fleener would be my pick very early in the 2d without a doubt.

Richardson probably, if he is still available. Give them a nice "big 3" for awhile between him, the Red Rifle and AJ.

After what Gronkowski has done, I think Fleener becomes a hot commodity and someone will reach for him in the 20's. Even if he puts on another 8-10 lbs of muscle he'll still be fast.

Mayock noted, however, that Fleener is not an inline blocker as Gronk has been. Another greatness of Gronk is not just size/speed, but he has gigantic hits (10 3/4) and catches everything! Fleener's are not small (10 inch), but not like Gronkowski (3/4 an inch is a pretty good difference at that point).

But, he's still a hot prospect. I would be glad to trade down and also still try to have a shot at Weeden.

IMO, we have to try to get a skilled receiver and ideally, Weeden, in the 1st two rounds.

Well, what if BM decided he needed to smack a ***** before he finished his route? Do you think that would mess up the timing of the play(s)?

I don't know how he'd make it to the Patriots sideline to slap Tom Brady and still catch the ball. He's not a speed guy.
