Got to watch a lot of Stanford games this year. Fleener is a beast. I would love to have him on the dolphins.
I like Fleener a lot , not sure Weeden would be an upgrade over Moore .....definitely don't want Tannehill.
Fleener might be there at our 2nd round pick since he's not a true dual threat TE. You can't opt out of pass into a run in order to take advantage of a mismatch with Fleener the way you can with Gronk, so I'm personally skeptical about him going in the first.
The only way I think he doesn't make it to the 2nd is if Harbaugh takes him late in the 1st. He loves using multiple tight end sets and was there to recruit him to Stanford.
Considering Harbaugh has a #1 TE who was a stud blocker before he emerged as an elite receiving one, your belief seems like it could be very possible.
I believe at 6'6 250 lbs at about 8 to 10 percent body fat with elite athleticism, and a willingness to engage, he will learn how to block real quick..When you have that strength {27 reps} build and athleticism, learning to block is easy, its kind of like lebron james, dwade, Jordan, Kobe, playing defense, any skilled offensive player can usually adapt their athleticism..I got him going mid first TP..??
He won't last until the 2nd round. If you want an athletic playmaking TE, you take him when you can and don't look back. We need Fleener in the worst way, especially with out current receiving corp. Great TE's make QB's job a lot easier.
I agree Deej, I love his skill set and hope we have a chance at him. If he already could block rather than being a guy who will "learn to block real quick", then I think he'd have a better chance at being a true first rounder (especially if he had a little bit more mass), but b/c he will have to develop it, I think that most likely pushes him into the 2nd despite having 1st round talent. So Fleener not being a more finished product might cause some hesitation come draft day, at least I hope it does... all the way into our laps.
If Fleener lasts to our second round pick, take him. I mean, seriously: Fleener, Fasano, and Clay? Who is messing with that?
The Dolphins never do what I want them to... hiring Joe Philbin was the 1st thing they did that I wanted in many years. I want the Fins to take Coby Fleener. Make our offense explosive again, help our QB....but of course, I am 100% sure the Dolphins won't even care. Like Jimmy Graham, he'll get drafted by a team with smarts while we take another safe pick that will never have the impact on a football game like Fleener can have
Where is the evidence to support your assumption? It seems Ireland's lone 2011 draft says otherwise. Examples: 1. trading up for a back (Thomas) with less experience at the position. 2. developmental small school WR (Gates) was not a "safe pick". The 2008-2010 team under Parcells would not have made that pick IMO. 3. versatile Hback (Clay) whom some analysts were uncertain had a role in the NFL-- not a safe pick. '08-'10 Parcells' team would not have made that pick IMO. 4. Jimmy Wilson. Also not a safe pick. 5. The rookie free agents we brought in didn't fit the "safe pick" mold. 6. Reggie Bush. Is his signing consistent with the "safe pick" mentality? I don't think so. I just don't understand the thinking that we're going to continue drafting the way Parcells wanted considering: 1. Parcells is no longer here. 2. That approach didn't seem successful (hence 3 consecutive losing seasons) 3. The 2011 draft & FA signings. It was atypical Parcells. Personally, I'm excited about the 2012 draft b/c if 2011 serves any indication of the direction we go, it leads me to believe we'll continue the trend of focusing more on athletic ability & playmakers than players who fit a specific size criteria or offensive guys who fit a boring possession-style, play to not make mistakes offense. The 2011 draft lays more credence to us not going safe pick TBH.
I doubt we draft a TE in the first 2 rounds. Maybe 1 in the 3rd. I think we already have an intriguing target......just at FB. Clay's role should get much bigger this season. I could see 75 catches between Clay and Fasano (who is criminally underrated around here).
That is very true. I just think that a three way combo of Fleener, Fasano, and Clay would destroy defenses.
Because it was way out in left field? I like dry humor. Unless your face really doesn't make sense....then i retract my laughter.
