http://thefinsiders.com/podcasts/2012/qbs-wrs-more-with-joe-philbin This is the best interview I heard from Philbin. From all sides of the ball including a sneak preview of the first official team meeting coming up in a couple weeks. In my opinion, this is an interview worth listening to. I am interested to know what you have to say about this.
No problem. Glad you enjoyed it. I was pretty impressed with it myself. I think Joe Philbin gave me enough to work with until the NFL draft as far as questions are concerned. He has answered all of them.
It's funny how a simple little "?" and "!" after the word has us conditioned to immediately think of Heck, when googling "playoffs" under "Images", Mora's picture is the 2nd listed (ahead of NBA Playoffs and Stanley Cup Playoffs)
Great interview. If there's one thing I'm absolutely positive about, is his potential for success as a Head Coach. I'd tend to think he's a more with less kind of Head Coach that can get the maximum out of what you give him. TS was a guy who needed greatness to get good play IMO.
I listened to the audio interview and the video. Joe Philbin is clearly a guy who knows offense. If he has the leadership qualities down I don't see any reason why he can't be a successful head coach in this league. Does anyone else notice Philbin's voice is a little reminiscent of Shula's? My only small nitpicky thing is every piece of video I've seen with Joe he appears to be uncomfortable looking anyone in the eye or looking into the camera. I hope that's just a media thing. Overall, I'm really excited about Joe Philbin. We've spent so much time talking about Jeff Ireland, but Miami's best hope of turning this thing around lie with Joe Philbin.
Love the Philbin hire. I think he is a well educated coach, meaning he has developed under some good people. He has put in time and effort learning many facets of the offensive game. He has the experience, the knowledge and obviously the desire to be in football. Something that stuck out to me was the end of the interview. It was the question on his idea of needing a #1wr. He said Paraphrasing that he didnt believe so, his plan is to spread the ball around and use mismatches , use different receiver types to help create those mismatches. May put people inside/outside different than they have been used in the past. Also he mentions earlier in the broadcast the need for good hands all over the field. Believe he mentioned taking a hit and hold on and hopefully YAC yards. But finished interview with (praphrasing) hopefully we do a better job in distributing the ball than in the past. To me this was somewhat of confirmation that the Marshall decision was very much up to him. Sure he could be toting the company line but i heard it as he wants to go in a new direction. With his talk about having passion for the game which is standard coach speak, he still makes a point to mention in all his interviews he's never had a problem coaching a guy that wants to learn and is professional. So let us allow this to play out, and itis obvious what fan base im speaking to. Cheers
Personally, I didn't agree with the decision to trade Marshall, but Marshall is not a player with great hands. That is one of the things that Philbin emphasized that he wanted in his receiving core. The reason Marshall dropped in the draft was those hands. Even among those passes he catches he has a ton of double catches. He's among the lead leader in drops every year. He was before he got to Miami as well. Many of his drops are the result of the DB making contact during that double catch and popping it out. Now, he is productive in spite of that which is why I liked him, but I can completely believe that Marshall didn't fit what Philbin wanted.
Not sure if were gonna be good fast i hope so. I expect Philibin to do well. But he was sincere in his direction at wr and his belief of what this team needed. The dropped balls are #1, # 2 was distributing the football, look who got all the balls last year it was a overwhelming the discrepancy. It wasnt knocking Marshall I think he felt he had to carry the team, and the coaches fed his ego. But my opinion is people need to lay off the speculation. Flynn lost is Irelands fault, Marshall lost is Irelands fault, not getting Manning is Irelands fault, not resigning Solia was Irelands fault (wait that happened after the *****ing about not locking him up to a 45 million contract last october) its a game and im tired. Agree though we will get better, I really like philbin, like Sparano too but different coaches and im sold on our new one. Edit: is he Perfect no but people , this is a election yr i dont need to hear the same bs here. We have a new coach lets talk about that not how we are failing when we dont know Philbins evaluations.
That's fair. I agree with you. I get excited easily but at the same time I see something special in this guy in comparison our previous coaches.
Couldn't agree more. Sucks Cowher and Gruden weren't realistic possibilities but I never wanted Fisher. I'll take upside over mediocrity every day of the week. Fisher would only have exasperated the Dolphins issue of "too good to be bad, too bad to be good". I forget which poster coined that, or I would give proper credit.
