I disagree. JT was a bigger name than Zach. He was just more known, has more records and accolades. Marino has been there done that and quit after a couple of weeks. Marino has a cushy job and has never shown any inclination as a mentor or a teacher.

I don't see how that analogy works. It would be more like if you dumped your wife and she got together with somebody you hated.

I don't understand this desire people have for bringing back players and putting them in different roles. (I know this thread was a joke.) Why would it be a good idea to make JT or Dan or Zach a VP as some have said?

We have an image problem b/c we have a GM that seems to piss of half the players he meets. JT was a popular player who could act as that intermediary. I personally think that any idea that limits Ireland's interaction with players to be a good idea.

I don't see how that would work.

The players don't have to interact with Ireland accept for the first couple of meetings and even if JT is there, Ireland will be as well probably directing the conversation. If we start winning, none of this matters.

I brought Andrew Luck to the Dolphins... some would call that a success... :wink2:

You would think so, but Ireland has managed in his few interactions to piss off large enough percentage of players that it's become a national joke. He needs a buffer. It doesn't have to be JT, but he definitely needs one.

It wasn't any analogy of him and his situation of leaving, it was more an analogy towards the emotional aspect. Which is why it works.

Oh my young Paduwan how much there is to learn, how short is the time to do it in. The original #13 was not named Marino. He is a prominent Miami business man and I believe a former state senator. i saw him intercept two passes in one game with two broken hands, in casts.

JT may have been more widely known outside of Miami, but ZT bleeds Aqua and Orange to this day. He has literally given his all, including his corpse one day to the game. He was never the most gifted athlete, so he won with preperation and vision. Zach was always about the team JT was and is about JT.

First of all, I'm about two years younger than you. The rest is just your opinion and I don't agree with that drivel.

JT is not a fan of Irish...so if he were hired as the VP of Football, we'd be in the market for a GM as well as an OT, OG, SS, FS, OLB/DE, WR, etc...

Again, I don't see how that works. Ireland is going to be doing the talking and asking the questions. If you need somebody to talk to the player after the meeting, to calm them down, then just get a current player to do it, or Philbin or Sherman.

If we were to hire JT or any ex big name Dolphin for a FO position it would be more for the fan interest than any significant role.

I want Ireland to not be the guy asking the questions or be the guy telling the player the role they envision him playing. I want Ireland to scout the film and set the budget and then go back to his office.

It would be pointless to bring in someone to be VP when Ireland still has all the power.

This was the problem when Huizenga brought in Marino. Spielman had just been given final say over personnel. Dan had no power. No one (including Dan) knew exactly what his job entailed.

That's all well and good. There are probably 1000's of people perfect for that job.

But why JT? Which is what my question was from the beginning. If someone is going to act as Ireland's surrogate and conduct the meetings and make the offers, then they need to have a head for the business side as well. Why do people think a JT or Zach Thomas would be suited to that task?

Maybe. I think they're smart and know the player's side. I believe both JT and ZT have also been involved in various business ventures for years. Depending on how involved they were, they might be very well suited for the task.

Yeah I know how old you are raf, just jerking your chain. But it is not my OPINION that the original #13 is not Dan Marino but Jake Scott. I was being very sarcastic because Jake has divorced himself from the Dolphins, I doubt there is any thing that would get him to come work for the team in any capacity.

Dick Anderson would probably be the best choice of a former player to bring in to the front office. He is the former state senator and prominent business man I was refering to.

Jake Scott is one of my favorite all-time Dolphins. I play Madden with my son and I changed the number of one of my safeties to 13 b/c of Scott. As for Anderson, my primary question would be a desire to be involved. That's an important factor in any success. JT strikes me as someone who would want the involvement.

I think it was wrong of the team to retire the #13 for just Marino. Should have shared that honor.
