With the 196th Selection in the 2012 GM Leage Draft, the Cleveland Browns select …

Christian Thompson, FS, South Carolina State

Continuing the theme of looking for small school defensive players, the Browns are very happy to be able to select Christian Thompson early in Round 7. We had actually considered Thompson back in Round 5 but gambled he would still be here, and we lucked out.

Thompson actually timed out as the fastest free safety in the Combine last month. We're primarily looking to use him on special teams, where his speed and tackling will be put to good use.

Beyond that we view him as a developmental safety prospect who could eventually grow into a starting role for us at some point down the line. He has the size (6'0, 211 lbs) and athleticism (4.5 40 time) to be able to cover the NFL's tight ends. We look at him as an interesting prospect with a very high upside, and we're happy to add him to our team, especially this late in the game.

If you're interested in finding out more, you can check out the scouting report from NFL.com:

As we said at the beginning, we're happy to bring Christian in as a special teams contributor early, and from there it's really up to him.

With the 197th pick, the Tampa Bay Bucs select... Darron Thomas, QB, Oregon

Thomas surprised by declaring early for the draft, and while he may have benefited by another year in school we feel he still has some upside. He was overshadowed by their talented running backs, but Thomas was a huge part of Oregon's success the past couple years. At this point of the draft upside is what you're looking for so we're taking a shot on Thomas.

With the 199th Selection in the 2012 GM Leage Draft, the Cleveland Browns select …

    Tom Compton, OT, South Dakota

I'm a big fan of drafting lineman with good measurables late. The idea is you can stash them on your roster or practice squad with the intention of seeing them develop down the road. Compton certainly has the size and length that you look for in an NFL lineman. We're hoping he can develop the technique that can go along with it as well.

He won't be asked to do much early, and he's going to be able to apprentice behind one of the best in the business in Joe Thomas. At the very least he can offer us rotational depth if the need arises.

If you're interested in finding out more, you can check out the scouting report from CBS Sports:

We're happy to welcome him aboard as the latest member of the Browns.

    Drake Dunsmore, Superback, Northwestern!

I was hoping to wait a few picks on Drake, but I'm not too sad about it, because I love me some Superback. It's been great to watch him the past few years make play after play for Northwestern (though I wish he made less vs Penn St), and we're confident we can find a way to use him effectively in the pros. He's a high-effort, high-energy guy who will come to be a great (on the field) friend of Cam Newton's in our opinion.

Miles Burris, LB, San Diego State!

We think Miles is a do it all LB capable of playing any of the 3 LB spots. He's exceedingly athletic and has been uber-productive the past two years both against the run and against the pass (via rushing the QB). We feel like he has the ability to really help our team down the road as well as dominate early on STs. He'll likely see time this year in special sub-packages at worst.
