If so we may never get off this train of sub-mediocrity.

And if it plays out that way I hope Matt Moore is the next (and hopefully better) Matt Schaub.

Tannehill should be the answer because the Dolphins should keep selecting QB's who have the possibility to become Franchise QB's until they finally find one. Last 1st round QB-Dan Marino.

I think people are going to be more pissed when Ireland trades back in the draft so he does not have to fork out that money for the eigth pick in the draft.

I think the answer is very complex...First, I agree that Tannehill is probably going to be drafted in the top 10 versus where he should be (20-40). If Barkley or Jones were in this draft, we might be talking about him being a late 2nd rounder. Heck there is talk that Weeden will go in the mid to bottom of the first. I also agree that filling a hole at WR, OL, OLB/DE, or S should be where we go...in most drafts.

But the thing is the QB position has become the pinnacle of a teams' success in this day's NFL. If you don't have that franchise guy that you can build a team around then you have nothing....(see the Miami Dolphins since Marino retired). Tannehill may or may not be that guy. It's also very likely that MMoore, exciting as he was for us last year, is not that guy either. Here's the thing, if you don't take the chance on a guy like Tannehill, you could end up kicking your self in the azz for the next few years. If he's not that guy, you pick another next draft or in the next FA or hang in with whatever MMoore can do for you or you overspend on a trade for a Carson Palmer or Kyle Orton...It's like....choose your poison.

I think Ross wants Irish to take the chance on Tannehill or Weeden, even if they don't turn out...Both are certainly possibilities but whether they turn out or not is something we'll have to first take the chance on and then hope that they do work out...otherwise....MMoore, Kyle Orton, Carson Palmer, etc...

Honestly I wouldn't mind Decastro. Reason? People COMPLETELY under rate the value of a dominating guard. A guard has the ability to make both the Center and Right Tackle better as well as the fullback. How?

A guy like Pouncey at Center IMO will never be able to dominate the middle in the run game. A Guard who can provide help move giant NT's off the ball are very valuable. It also opens a clean hole for the fullback to make a good block at the second level. Also a guard who can adjust and pick up the inside blitz helps the RT as well.

I don't know. I think this is still a team game and circumstance plays a big role in what happens during the post season. Had Williams been able to hold onto the ball, the 49ers win that game and quite possibly win the SB. Would that make Smith a franchise QB? If you look at recent history, in 05 the Steelers won the SB in spite of Ben's play in the game and Eli was a 70ish rated passer in 07. Yes both have gone on to be considered franchise level QBs but they haven't always played like it. Their accomplishments have to be viewed in the context of what they were at the time - not what they are today.

I'm pretty sure Tannehill will be the pick. To much of my dislike of having a 1st round talent sit for a year, I think Philbin/Sherman are sure they can turn him into a franchise QB if he waits. I can't blame them for that and It's probably the right move. Tannehill's not ready this year and any grade on him so far is an incomplete one given the inexperience but his got all the tools of the trade.

Well they'll have to take a QB with a premium pick if for no other reason than both their QBs are in the last year of their contracts.

Do you know where Coples On-Off switch is... Seemed to be operating rather intermittently last year. Don't know about him....

We need a QB and we can't keep waiting. We're probably not getting one through free agency, we've had our chances at that and messed them up.

There is no point in waiting anymore. 30 years since Miami picked a 1st round QB. Time to do it.

I'd rather have Tannehill, but I'd have no problem taking a HOF potential guard. A 1st rounder on a guard is tough to swallow, but a 1st rounder on an elite guard followed by an outstanding rest of the draft makes it worthwhile IMO.

I'll trust Philbin until he gives me reason not to.

My thought process has been the same in regard to the QB position since we hired Philbin/Sherman. The two options I thought were real possibilities were Flynn and Tannehill. I think if these coaches think these players are the real deal, the team will go after them.

Obviously, we didn't think too much of Flynn or else we would have offered him a real contract. If we do think a lot of Tannehill, I have no problem pulling the trigger at 8. No offense to anyone on this thread/forum, but you have to believe that these offensive coaches that have had these guys in their systems, on their teams, know a bit more in regard to what these guys have to offer.

Honestly I haven't seen much of Decastro but from everything I have read and the little I have seen he is definitely a HOF type POTENTIAL. Of course nothing is a sure thing, ask the Raiders and Gallery.

My first choice is to trade down into the middle of the first and select Fleener. Followed by the best available RT in the second round. Then you hopefully acquire another second rounder to use on a WR. After that you have two thirds already to pick up possibly a pass rushing DE with some potential and with the other third I'd take Streeter at WR. I don't think he makes it to the fourth round with his size/speed combo.

Im not too sure that would help much considering we cant draft a player in the second round for the life of us... all we would end up with in that scenario is a later first round pick and two second round picks to waste on injury prone srubs... but the idea sounds great haha
