Well proof positive who kept the pipeline to lineman cut by Dallas that were not very good anymore. Lets guess now who it is, Hmmmmm, not Tony, he is gone. Hmmmmm, who does that leave, Hmmmm. Personally speaking, I think Tony took a lot of flack for stuff he had no control over.

I personally think this whole, "OH MY GOD HE PLAYED FOR DALLAS," thing is pretty silly.

    Hmmmm..

    Let's see...

How many free agent guards are there available? How many of them have started their entire career thus far? I know we have looked at one other guard who has started... Does this mean that we should not ever, never, at any time, begin to consider the vaguest possibility of investigating whether or not an available free agent starter at any position should ever be looked at if they came from or anywhere near Dallas? This is the first one from Dallas we have looked at this year if I am not in error.

Offhand, it would appear that there is some gun jumping to blame Ireland for something else in the offing...

Do we have any reason to believe that this guy is not an upgrade? Or is this yet another excuse to bash the CLB's favorite target?

I absolutely love the responses, love it. If Tony was still coach there would be bedlam on this board. Kosier is an upgrade over no one on this offensive line. The team is looking for bargains, lets face it. Outside of the draft they are not spending a nickel more then they have to. Available guards someone asked ? If I can check it out so can you. There are many available guards still availbe with more then a few a lot better and younger the Kosier but hey, ignorance is bliss I guess when it comes to Irelands plan.

The way you guys are defending Ireland you would think this wasn't the same guy who signed Marc Colombo without even giving Bryant McKinnie a sniff last year. Mining Dallas castoffs hasn't produced results yet and I doubt it's about to start now.

Generally what happens during the month of the draft is the bargain basement free agents sign.

    Okay... just for drill.
There are from the site I visited 19 free agent guards left.
Their ranking shows him 7th on that list of the remaining 19.
The top ranked guard on the list of those remaining is Jake Scott - who we have contacted and with whom, last I heard, we are still negotiating.
    The next is Vernon Carey.
Bobbie Williams is 35, will be 36 at the beginning of the season.
Montrae Holland is from Dallas....Scratcho Guardo!!!! Wrongo Teamo!
Next - Eric Steinbach - who missed last season with back surgery.
Then Jacob Bell - who missed a chunk of last season with a MCL, and is probably not going to be back at full speed, if at all.
    Next is Kyle Kosier....

To paraphrase Elrond.."Our list of possibilities grows thin."

Besides, it may all be a tactic to light a fire under Scott and his agent.

I'd rather have Jake Scott, but even Kyle Kosier is an upgrade over Vern Carey. Especially as a pass blocker.

Maybe a bargain, yes. But starting 120 out of 143 games, an every game for the last six years... Who do we have that can claim that. Is he better than Vernon Carey... or at least in better shape? I don't care where he comes from, if he can help the right side of the OL - he could be from Qo'noS...

Look, whether or not we bring in too many or the wrong guys keep in mind that Irish probably did a lot of work scouting these very guys and probably selected some of them in the draft as well... It's no big surprise and shouldn't be to any of us...however, what else it tells you that Joe Philbin is ok with these guys. While Irish is the GM, his job is to get guys for the HC and Philbin is the HC...so he must have some knowledge of who Ireland is bringing in and why ??

I just think the 'played for Dallas' thing is way overplayed...

Well since we have no RG right now, I'd say that even if Kosier is nothing more than warm body, he's better than what we have...Hicks is more of a T, we don't know about Jerry, Garner or Murtha for various reasons... There are questions as to whether RI will fit in the zone-blocking scheme...I don't know...you tell me ??

Of course they're looking for bargains. There is $6M in cap space and it will cost that to sign the draft picks. Please try to keep up.

As was pointed out before, Richie played in a zone blocking scheme for the Rams and did well. I've focused on him during replays as much as any of our OL, and IMO he has good footwork, and moves well. He isn't just an immobile slug out there. He ran a 4.84 forty at the combine during his draft year. Inside traps, short pulls, getting good fits on the 2nd level, I've seen all of that pretty consistently from Richie.

There are a lot of guards out there but seriously, any website that has Vernon Carey ranked as the second best guard in FA, well, have no clue what they are talking about. I watched Carey not even able to open a hole last year, many times. He did not do half bad the last few games of the season but second best available ? Cmon, if he was that good Miami would have offered him something. From what I have seen, nobody has offered Carey even a vets minimum contract. I pray we go in a different direction instead of bringing Carey back.

As far as Bell goes, you are correct. Rams cut him before camp last season then resigned him for half the amount. Another guard that has no visits lined up that I can see or heard of. I admit mostof those guys are an upgrade over what we had and still believe Scott wants to sgn here but there is no money available to give him what he wants. We have cook and Feinga, meh, to both of them. Garner ? honestly not sure what he could do. Murtha at OT, I was down on him as much as anyone else but in the kids behalf, he really did a a better then decent pre season last year then got hurt. Can't Satele play guard ?

Bryant McKinnie is about the worst player I've seen someone holding a candle for in a long time. The difference between the two is utterly negligible, they are both super awful. At least with Colombo you didn't have the fear of him dying on your team because he's build like a giant human molded out of ****.

I wonder how many people complaining about McKinnie are the same people who wanted to get rid of Vernon Carey for being fat.
