I didn't hop on it last year with the better prospect in Luck, sure as hell not going to do it if it happens again. You talk about being a "realistic" fan, but hoping your team tanks to get a higher draft pick is the most unrealistic idea I've seen the past 2 seasons. We clearly have a talent level that is average on this team, I attribute at least 1-2 extra losses/season to crappy coaching. To expect this team to go 1-15 w/o a horrible rash of injuries is unrealistic.
You get used to it. Bashing the Dolphins was frowned upon last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. And then Dolphins sucked, shocker. Well, not enough to get a QB that is. They'll learn eventually. But yes, derailing a Cam Wake thread for no reason, certainly lame.
Ya, I'd of looked much more reasonable if I came in here crying because that monster Jeff Ireland is so bad at his job that Wake had to sit out one non-mandatory practice in April.
Glad you like average. Good luck getting a franchise QB with an average draft pick. Maybe in 7 years as opposed to sucking one single year and being set for the next 15. We'll leave that to smart franchises like the Colts, and Thunder for the NBA fans. Average. The worst position you can be in professional sports.
This is a business. It's not wishful thinking or playing who likes whom the best. If there were no cap I'm sure Ireland would pay Wake whatever he wanted. However, this isn't Madden and sometimes even great players ask for too much.
The "realistic" Dolphins are average! Average draft pick here we come opinions? I have to be getting close to your idea of realistic...
Well, the insanity that has been the fans this off season has made some of us extra defensive. You're right, the OP didn't blast Ireland. But I also don't think its a ridiculous stretch to see it coming either. We jumped the gun on this one, I can admit that. Can you guys admit jumping the gun on the entire off season though?
I understand how extensions work. However, going from $650K per year for one season is cheaper than paying $5 mil per season over 5 years.
That is silly. You can't compare Wake to the average American. You compare Wake to the top passrushers in the NFL. And those guys make a heck of a lot more than $6mil/year. Mario Williams got a 6 year, $100mil contract, with $50mil guaranteed.
Considering the amount of talent on the roster, I have no idea why we're even struggling with cap room anyways. Cam Wake deserves it. If you have to cut an overpaid, solid player like Dansby to do it, you do it. Imagine our pass rush without Cameron Wake. I'd rather not actually.
I'm talking about the first response-post. I believe that was sarcasm. Also, look at post #53 where Finascous admits to it.
Holy off topic thread, Batman! Non mandatory workouts...missed the first day...not the end of the world but not a great sign either. Hope he gets a better and longer contract without breaking the bank. Hope hes back at practice soon. This would be a real wrench in the works if he sits out too long...if its even about contract. Seems kind of surprising for Wake, but at the same time, he's hella underpaid. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise...
yes, because on a scale of 1-32, 8 is clearly average. Here's some math for you. Eli Manning - 4th pick, Ben Rothlisberger - 11th pick. The average between those two franchise QBs? you guessed it. 8 (well 7.5). If you need some tutoring in math, I'd be happy to help out.
Not this year, but it would allow them to not have to use the Tag on him next year. I wonder what happened to the Jake Long extension? That would have to free up cap.
So you're basically asking me to admit that you're right and I'm wrong about Ireland deserving to be fired in exchange for you admitting that you jump the gun in defending him? You're joking, right? I wanted Ireland to be fired alongside Sparano last season. I will be the first to admit that I was wrong when I am proven wrong.
That has nothing to do with anything. You said we have average talent on the team not me. I'm of the opinion we have the talent on this team worthy of a top 5 pick.
I wasn't comparing Wake to the average American. I was comparing salaries to make a point. The point that Wake doesn't need our sympathy.
Sure you were comparing Wake to the average American. Your point is that we shouldn't feel sympathy for Wake, cause he's doing good relative to the average American. My point is that he DOES deserve sympathy. He's wildly underpaid for his job.
If our coach can't improve upon Sparano's crappy tenure and get this team to a winning record, and we get that rash of injuries that seems to hit us every few years, and we fall completely flat and end up 1-15, then at the end of the season, I'll be happy we're in a position to draft Barkley #1. Leaders don't hope for failure so they can have longer-term success. Leaders find a way to make the best with what they have and add the necessary pieces to make that improvement. Hopefully, Tannehill is that piece. I'll root for the team that works it's *** off and falls short over the one that tanks it hoping a prospect like Barkley will change it's fortunes any day of the week. Rooting to lose makes you a loser.
Why let him go? You have him under contract this year. After this year you can franchise him. At that point he'll be old enough where you aren't paying him big money.
So you're saying you would make him the highest paid defensive player in the league if he asked for it?
Imo it's bc Jake is undeniably the 1st or 2nd best LT in the league. Very hard to argue otherwise. Add that to him coming off a disappointing year with a few uncertain injuries and it gets really cloudy. And we're in an even more precarious position w/him bc our OL is in such bad shape.
No. I'd give him 10 mil a year easily. Perhaps a little more. 11, 12 mill a year. But Mario Williams money? Can't do it. Something like a 4 year 40-50 million dollar deal is what I'd prefer.
If I were comparing Wake to another person I wouldn't use their salaries. I was comparing salaries. That is why I compared Wake's salary to the average American salary. Once again...average American SALARY...not average American. Understand? Wake doesn't deserve sympathy.
Do NFL players deserve to make the massive money they make? No. But they do. The market allows them to make it. He deserves to get paid accordingly to what the other elite guys at his position make.
That's ideal from an organizational standpoint. But do you really want to franchise an unhappy player?
Enjoy the last year of Cam Wake Dolphin fans.....at this point, if I am Cam I beast it this year, and I hit free agency...see ya Miami...let the exodus begin.... Yet another player IRISH promised something to, and is going to do the total opposite...
im all for trading fatdansby to give wake some more money...hell, the reality of it is we should trade wake due to his age and the fact it's going to take us forever to actually not be a laughing stock of a franchise. wake deserve to be paid in the middle of the pack for the elite pass rushers. he's not peppers or williams but he's in the same league.
