Seeing that there is a thread for averyone other Qb, I thought this kid deserves his own, there are some respected media members now thinking pretty seriously that this dude and Philbin jive together very well.. I love the guy, something I wrote back in January when I found out he was gonna play football. " Not baseball, according to ESPN..He told the rockies he will not be reporting to spring training.. "I think the kid is a facinating prospect, and would love him on our team..I mean the liklihood of us getting RG3 is very slim, so the rest of the guys for me come down to Tannehill, Weeden, Wilson. We should be able to get one of those mother grabbers.. "Wilson has everything in the arsenal besides height imo, Touch, arm strength, accuracy, great ability to extend plays and make those plays down the field, leadership, freakish vision of the field, and just that vibe that exudes the ''it'' factor... So where does that height thing fit in in the whole scheme of things..Is it a deal breaker for you when the kid seemingly has everything else you want in a prospect..??" end quote. He's well versed in the west coast offense, has admitted its his preferred system, his supervision of the field negates the height factor a lot, he's used to playing behind mammoths, and I believe he does not come in 2nd place to anyone in any facet of the game, except height.. I know it's close that we're gonna select Tannehill, but I just think that this player should be in the discussion at all times..He's capable of great things.
I go to NC State, and I tell you, the man can play football. The height doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, when you look at the offensive line of Wisconsin. On average, they are larger than the Green Bay Packers line.
I am rooting for him, I live in Charlotte and heard a lot about the guy the last few years....he can def. ball out!
I love RW as a prospect, but I'm not willing to pass up one of the top two possible guys (Tannehill and Weeden) and place all my QB hopes there. I would take him as a double up option and be thrilled though.
I don't know much about him. Haven't seen him play. But I do know he was extremely productive this past season, probably even more productive than Luck and Griffin. I'm not sure what that means going into the draft. But it should mean something.
Well, he was the only person that had a higher QB rating than RGIII. Actually, he had the highest QB rating last year out of everyone.
It means far less than people think. What matters far more is how much of that production was achieved while doing the things he'll have to do at the next level. That's part of what Boomer was trying to emphasize in that Osweiller piece. People get all excited about his production, but most of what he did won't translate to the next level. RW shows NFL ability ability b/c he's running an NFL analogous system. Luck is probably the lone QB prospect who did as much in college as he'll have to do in the NFL. Tannehill is the next guy who had the most NFL-like responsibility. I would say that RW had the third closest to NFL system followed by Weeden and RG3.
Get all the Russell Wilson love out of your system in this thread, fellas. Pretty sure they're walking out of this Draft with Tannehill.
The only thing that makes me nervous about RW is the similarities between he and PW, Pat White. He definitely seems to be a much better passer than PW but they are both undersized and both came out of college with glowing accolades and both had a baseball background. PW had a great college career breaking records all along the way at WV but his game just didn't translate to the NFL. It remains to be seen if RW's game translates to the NFL. I sure wouldn't mind if they drafted him in the later rounds just to see what he can do at the next level as long as they don't make him the sole QB target in this draft.
I don't think they are even close as prospects. Bit my top qbs are 1.luck 2.Wilson 3.Weeden 4.Tanny 5.RG3
I don't see the PW comparison as being based on anything meaningful. The fact that they played baseball has as much relevance as what religion they are IMO. What matters is the talent and I don't see those two as comparable at all in that regard.
I stood next to Pat White in Nashville a few years back when Miami played the Titans. White is so small I laughed when he got out of the elevator. He looks like he should be in Middle School. Pat White also has very small hands. Wilson on the other hand is built like a fire hydrant and some the largest hands of any of the QB's at the combine. 10 1/4 " mitts for Wilson.
I like Russell Wilson. I'd like him even more if he were 6'4 and had that kind of season in the SEC. Wouldn't be upset if we drafted him in addition to Weeden/Tannehill though.
Yeah that didn't work out that well with Jamarcus Russell did it? Being in the SEC doesn't guarantee anything when it comes to the nfl.
If Russell Wilson were 6'2, then he's in the conversation at 8. Why? Because the ONLY knock on him is height. The question is, can he overcome that? Only two NFL starters currently have - Vick and Brees. Brees does it with remarkable touch and accuracy. But Wilson has the same, playing behind a very big offensive line at Wisconsin. He purposefully doesn't ride the ladder up in the pocket because it allows him to see the field better. He has superior talent in an offense that Joe Philbin has dreams about every night. However I think Chris is right.
No, but being in the Big 10 would seem to. There are only two current starters in the NFL at QB from the Big 10, Brady and Brees. Both of those guys were drafted over 10 years ago. Trend? Like I said, I like Wilson. I wouldn't mind if the Dolphins took a chance on him on the 3rd/4th. I just hope if they do that they're doubling up.
As far as liking smallish Qb's, I wanted to draft Drew Bree's in the first round that year, loved him, I loved Mike Vick when he came out, thought he would be successful as hell, also like tyrod taylor last year in the later rounds, drafted and made the ravens team..Pat white I said would not be a successful pro set Qb, I was only excited about the wildcat possibilities, apparently no one got the memo.. This dude is different, this dude is special..and he's the reason why Iam not sweatin this draft, of course Weeden is my top pick, and I can't deny the intel we have on Tannehill, but if sh&$ doesn't go down the way we expect, this dude can lift us up and make us forget real quick.
I just can't see him falling to the fourth, if he does and he's available for us, and we don't take him, then I'll see ya in the rant forum..
They did a piece about him on the news out here. They thought it would be pretty cool to have him as Peyton's backup since we also played for the Colorado Rockies farm team.
Tri-Cities is 3 cities ain't it? Pasco, Kennewick and Richland? So, only one of them can technically be your home town. Home to Hanford. You all are probably contaminated with radioactive nuclear waste.
If Tannehill is taken before us, or we pass on him... I say address our needs and grab him later on. He's a much better player in our system than Osweiler, Foles, Cousins, etc. And he can be had a lot later (and younger) than Weeden.
I like him more than Tannehill but the nfl is about prototype players so hes going to go way late. I see no reason not to draft him if they pass on both Tannehill/Weeden.
Tannehill comes with risks, mitigate those risks by doubling up on the position and take Russell in the 3 rd or 4 th, fu&$ conventional dolphin wisdom, address the damn position with authority, worry about both being successful later, time to quit playing around with the position, shock the world and double up..I won't hate, I promise.
I met and talked with a Wisconsin and college football fanatic back in early-November, he said Wilson has "it" and height doesn't matter in the QB position anymore - Drew Brees. I'm don't know much about football but after watching a lot of Wisconsin games, he's seems like a steal in the draft. Plus, he's born in the year 1988, year of the Dragon, according to Chinese zodiacs...
If we don't get Tanny or Weeden early, I'd not be waiting too long to take RW. CK mentioned taking him in the 2nd in this scenario and I agree. I'd even be real nervous about the Bills taking him at 41.
I like weeden over Ryan and I also like Wilson over Ryan. I'm not sold on tanny. I would like to see us grab him with our third we picked up from the bears
I love this kid, he remionds me of that guy you always wanted to be around but never could figure out why and no nothing sexual hahahaha. He is like the smartest guy in the room that always makes people feel like they are an equal, that when you left his company you just felt smarter but he or she did it in a way that was neither demeaning nor patronizing. That to me is Russell Wilson, he is quietly confident, he feels like he doesnt need to tell you how good he is in a manner that dismisses your opinion, someone who just gets it and understands where the issues come from but just knows that it isnt an issue, but isnt offended by it, isnt put off by it, because knowing is good enough for him cause he kniows and believes he will show it. I quietly am hoping that he is teh pick over tanny and Weeden. Now I will be ecstatic with those 2 as well, but part of me has just believes he is teh real deal. He just carries himself with a confidence and an unsinkable belief in his abilities. He has a solid football/all around intelligence and physical skills.
