if Tannehill is Miami's guy, just take him at 8. I don't buy into "where a guy should be drafted." If he's there at 8 and Miami wants him, just draft him. Forget Kiper and McShay and their "grades" and what's a reach. It's not a reach if that's the guy you want. And on the flip side if he's not the guy, fine, so be it. But all those thinking Miami can get Weeden in the 2nd, you're living in a dream world. If they miss on both Tannehill and Weeden, there's nothing down that road that is "franchise" material. We're looking at a 3rd round QB to be drafted and groomed as the future? Ugh. Osweiler, Cousins, Wilson, Foles or Moore aren't going to turn into some late round gem, ala Tom Brady.
I don't buy it but we'll see come Thursday. Teams have their own grades if they have Tannehill as their guy they will take him.
You just can't trust much of any "insights" this time of year from some GM. The dilemma for Miami is this: If they really like Tannehill as a 1st round pick and therefore potential franchise QB, then they decide to trade down, they could lose him. The teams behind Miami are KC at 11 and Cleve at 22. And, if Miami dropped to 15-17, Cleveland could decide to try to jump in front of them if they wanted Tannehill. So, the point is, if Miami likes him but more around 15-20, but they like him that much, do they want to take that risk of losing him? The other factor is how they rate Tannehill relative to Weeden. The negative for Weeden is age. But, if they like Weeden as much as Tannehill, then they could trade back and land Weeden much later - and pick up some other picks. On the other hand, if they don't really see Tannehill as a #1 type pick or potential franchise QB - then of course drop down. I think that's what it comes down to. If Miami passes on him - I doubt they will be thinking, "we really liked him at #22 or #25!"
This Coples thing is just getting at me. Perfect fit on the strong side of the defensive line early and then on third down he comes in to absolutely level QBs inside. That just sounds like a guy that could be this team's new Kevin Carter.
Put it in context though it still matters. Miami hasn't even touched the possibility of a strong side DE in free agency, they let Langford go, and they are right in the perfect range to take Coples. Heck if the idea is to trade down then Miami can go to say 15 and get Coples, then get Curry. Finally on third down Miami will have: RE- Wake RDT- Coples LDT- Odrick LE- Curry
He's in play Jaj..his skillset makes us not desperate, Philbin is very high on him, and I don't think you can go Dline at 8..the teams balance is out of whack, Kuechly would be the only defender I could justify..
Still Coples fills a need at that open end. I'm not entirely sure what flex defense we are playing entails whether it is the old Cowboy defense but I do know Miami badly needs a strong side end in that 280s range. I'd rather Tank Carter and him then say some mediocre 3rd round DE.
Did you like Langfords game?, and how would you project him if he were here at end in a 43?.. I said we would let Langford walk during the offseason because I see something in MCD that hasn't been exploited yet, it's going as planned so far, and when I heard the superlatives from Philbin after he watched tape, I felt good about the release of Langford.
I just finished watching the Gruden QB camp with Tannehill. Went into it a huge detractor, but let me say if he is there at #8 I'm pulling to draft him now. I didn't recognize the skill set he really brings to the table as well as football knowledge.
So what's your stance? Is Tannehill worth mentioning with these other qb's in the same sentence? 26 other GM's passed on Marino and 23 on Rodgers. I'm pretty sure some GM's are kicking themselves to this day for either/or. Tannehill doesn't deserve that praise IMO.
I think Weeden in the 1st is a better pick than Tannehill in the 1st...but what do I know? I only saw 4 of Weeden's games and 7 of Tannahill's this last season...(Those are complete games, taped and re-watched). Tannehill to 22? Anybody say Brady Quinn Part Deux......

You know who he's going to throw to before he even receives ball from center The kid does NOT know how to deal with pressure very well He is CONSTANTLY off target He can run very very very well He has a very strong arm. He is constantly off target He does NOT show any leadership qualities. Not taking charge. Now then, this is of course against a pretty darn good defense, but that is what you really need to see. I watched much of this same scenario this entire last season against very week defenses. He won't be playing against weak defenses at the next level....ever....
see I didn't see the "very inaccurate" 2 of those picks were ugly. And there was under throw that was REALLY underthrown. But as a whole, I don't see what was terrible about that game for him. He makes quick reads and if nothing is there, he tucks it down and runs. He's not a statue. Good zip on the ball. Some of his timing patterns were fantastic. Hitting the reciever just as they were turning around. I counted 3 passes that were dropped that should have been completions. And that fade pattern for their final touchdown @8:41, while being pressured and rolling out was beautiful. That's a Sunday throw.
Heard on the NFLN this morning that rumor is Buffalo is interested in Tannehill if he is still OTB when it's their pick. Apparently, the way Fitzpatrick's contract is written, it wouldn't hurt them too bad if they ended up cutting him in a year or two. They said a couple of times how good Gailey is at grooming QB's too. Don't know if it's merely speculation or more smokescreen, but just thought I'd share it.
I really disagree with this evaluation. In that video I saw a QB running a pro style offense, calling audibles and making NFL throws against a National championship caliber defense. His receivers rarely got separation and he was forced to throw into very tight windows. I saw a very accurate passer who handled pressure very well, not just adequately, very well. Now, I also saw the game so I know that some of those sacks were actually good plays b/c the receivers had just been blanketed. That off balance throw for the TD was incredible. He did throw one INT that was clearly his fault. The one in the middle where he didn't see the LB was on him. The one in the flat was a combination of a rounded route by the WR and a great jump by the CB. The long pass was IMO a bad read by the WR. He was even with the CB when Tannehill released the ball. That's what the QB is taught to do. The running was impressive, but what should be impressing people was how much of the offense Tannehill handled. You don't see many college QBs outside of Luck who do that. LSU was clearly the better team, but Tannehill was never overwhelmed. I came away from that game impressed by Tannehill.
He was also going against a defense that would rival most NFL defenses in terms of talent. They had Patrick Peterson and Morris Claiborne at CB. Not to mention Honey badger in the nickel, Michael brokers, etc etc.
As I stated earlier, Buffalo has been high on Tannehill for months. Generally they aren't smoke screens when you've been hearing it since way before draft season.
Those WRs were way over matched. If it wasn't for the QB throwing those passes into those tight windows, TAMU would have lost by 50.

The only thing I saw is that he does seem to stare at his targets too much. you hope he can develop that skill with a good coach. I didn't see anything that showed he was bad under pressure. I saw 3 passes, maybe 4 that were off-target. so not sure how you bring that up twice. And how exactly do you assess his lack of leadership from watching highlights?
That defense was ungodly. Just nasty. I'm surprised aTm was able to move the ball and score as much as they did.
He'll slide way down if we don't take him. The Dolphins are the only team desperate enough to take him in the top half of the first round.
when u only score 14 points against the browns you dont blame the D for losing. if anything you blame the play calling on D for sitting in the classic dave wadsofcock prevent D.
that vid is a negative for tanny? yeah he threw a couple picks but that was one of the better college Ds and prob one of the worst WR corps for a team that basically does nothing but pass. I saw him going through progressions, a lot of the time his first read was there. he just needs more reps to learn where to go with the ball. I didnt see him force any first reads. he threw one bad pick. looked like he didnt see the underneath coverage.
